Our reservation wasn’t ready and they had no idea when it would be so we had to take a different table. We waited 45 minutes for our “starter” and the manager never came to our table to apologize for their incompetence.
We probably won’t dine there again nor recommend.
The view is fabulous of Dana Point Harbor. I highly recommend the artichoke with mushrooms. I’m not a huge fan of sauté mushrooms but they are sautéed in sundries tomatoes with a little chili flakes I believe. The combination is great! I had the prime rib which was great our only complaint is the chicken my wife had was a little dry.
Everything was fine on this first visit excluding support server did not anticipate our need for plates and utensils when serving appetizers and salad.
Great evening . We have been celebrating our anniversary here off and on for 32 years. Food and service is the best and the view of the harbor at night just adds to it all.
As good as I remember from my Winter Formal 35 years ago.
Horse show team dinner. Easter dinner. We were feeling rather rushed throughout the evening. We had a 6:30 reservation. Before 8 we were told that the kitchen closed at 7. Wanting us to hurry up, it was 7:50. We quickly ended our evening and left. I don’t believe it is unrealistic to have an 1.5 to 2 hours for a nice dinner.
We booked well in advance through OpenTable and they did not have a table reserved for us. It was our wedding anniversary (we wrote them a special note about it but they did not know). They had a table not at the window but we still had a very nice view.
The service was slow and the ambient ok not as fancy as I expected.
The food was ok but I was not very impressed. I wanted the fish skewers and they said they were out but later on we heard a waiter offering them to a couple.
I ordered the mahi mahi which was well cooked and the mashed potatoes were tasty but the green beans were totally raw and hard.
We got a piece of cake on the house for the anniversary but it had quite poor frosting.
My wife and I decided that we would give Cannons a try as we are new t o the area. The restaurant is definitely a casual dining establishment. The seating gave us a beautiful view of the Bay and ocean. However, there appeared to be a large party celebrating a birthday and that apparently threw the kitchen staff off guard. Our waiter was very nice but seemed to be going in too many directions to even remotely check on us. We even ordered the specials thinking that would get us served in decent time. From the time we arrived we ended up waiting for over an hour to get our main plate. We were given a salad and bread within the first twenty minutes but after that we thought that maybe our server forgot to place our order. He later came by and apologized for the wait but that's it. The food was good but nothing to write home about. We may go back but will try a week day instead of a weekend day if we go back at all.
The food was great priced a little and view is spectacular. For the cost of the food the service was terrible.
Beautiful, classy + casual = great SoCal spot
The view is fabulous, the service was OK but a bit too familiar, the food was ordinary.
I’ve been coming here for years and it never disappoints.... delicious food. Great view. Casual atmosphere.... we used to moor our boat in the Marina but we sold it yet we will come back just to enjoy the view and have a great meal...thank you...Randi Kennedy
Best harbor view, excellent service, given the window seating that we requested, made us feel special for our 32nd anniversary. The best for warm summer evening drinks on over the harbor full moons sitting on the patio. Only complaint is that they close up too early.
Great location, breathtaking view. Menu limited, food marginal.
wonderful time, highly recommended, awesome, romantic atmosphere
My wife and I had the special on the menu - Opah. It was delicious. The preparation was outstanding. It was a delightful dinner with excellent service. The view of the harbor is fantastic and we had a window seat at sunset. Highly recommend .
Made reservation 3 weeks in advance via Open Table. Cannon's ignored request for window table and that it was a birthday celebration.
Wife ordered Ahi and asked for it to be Well Done. Arrived raw in center. Hair on plate under food. Waiter claimed it wasn't delivered that way - but there was no way he could have seen the hair. Menu doesn't state if a particular dish has highly allergic foods in dish (such as peanuts)
Nice people but not the atmosphere I was expecting. Pretty run down.
Cannon's has always been our go-to spot for Sunday Brunch, offering traditional standards of prime rib, crab legs, waffle bar, salads, dessert bar and chocolate fountain--with unlimited champagne...we have so many fond memories. To our dismay, Cannon's stopped serving brunch, and they fell off of our radar...and years passed.
Searching for a restaurant choice to celebrate a birthday this week, we thought once again of Cannon's, and decided to give it a try after so long. We enjoyed one of the best dinners we've had in a very long time. Steaks were cooked to perfection, fish was tender and flakey, scallops were fresh and delectable, and sizzling mushrooms were seasoned just right. The champagne that the manager brought over for our celebration was the perfect accompaniment, and we were reminded of the dining experience that we had loved for so many years! With plenty of parking, outstanding views, top notch customer service, and delivering an excellent product, the only thing seemingly standing in the way of this becoming a packed restaurant again, is a full-scale remodel. The wet and musty smell of old building, dated carpet, and 70's era wood-paneled walls are in sore need of replacement. It's easy to imagine what a hub of activity this restaurant would be after a rehab and--where is the bar? We've only dined on the main floor, so if the bar is upstairs, it should be a happening place, IMHO.
Otherwise, congratulations Cannon's, for a job well done on our dinner, and you can count on seeing us again very soon!
This was for my wife's birthday. It was our first time in twenty years, since we used to have brunch every Sunday on the deck, with a beautiful view. There were four of us that evening, and we were each very very happy with the excellent cuisine, and the first class service.
Expect us back again soon !
This is my third visit to the restaurant. It is such a beautiful view of Dana Point and shoreline to the south... you can't capture it in a picture. The food is awesome and the staff is over the top.
Great views, average food. Expecting more if I return in the future.
Loved our server but 2 of the burgers we ordered were raw and another meal came out missing rice. But other than that, atmosphere is great.
The food was just ok. They covered the potatoes and the steak in what seemed like kraft macaroni and cheese sauce.
I have not been to Cannon's for several years and glad to see it is still as great as ever. I had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. My husbands prime rib was one of the best he has every had. Our server was wonderful.
Awesome view, fast friendly professional service, excellent food!
Bad Service, Food was cold - will never go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic View and Food. Had Valentine's Dinner here.
The food selection is poor. Typical bar food. Thought it was more a fine dining establishment. My mistake in thinking the location would impact the selection. Made reservations for 7 pm. Was told it was set for 7:15. No problem except I requested a window seat when I set the reservation. None available was sat up stairs on covered patio table and unstable chairs with a pad on it. Very uncomfortable. It will be the last time I visit this establishment. Waitress was inexperienced but pleasant
First this is a great location with a wonderful view. And that is pretty much the only good thing I can say about our. experience. We were seated at our reservation time and the waiter came by in a few minutes to take drink orders and let us know what they were out of. We waited over 20 minutes to get drinks. How long does it take to pour two glasses of wine and ice tea anyway?? Then he finally took our food order. Another 30 minutes later (and we only had the main course no starters) our meals cane out. Two were very good and two were ice cold. He took them back and they just put the entire plate in the microwave to heat it up. Not a good idea with shrimp. They were pretty much rubber and inedible after that. The microwave managed to keep the meal warm for an entire 3 minutes. One person had a seafood sampler they did the same thing to and made a cold meal even worse. He was a better person than me and ate most of his. To the waiter 's credit he did remove mine from the check I get the feeling this place that is advertising its 45 years on business is just coasting along on that and the view. They no longer care about customer service or take any pride in the food they serve. I know one place I will avoid on my next visit to the area.
I used to love this restaurant and went there for birthdays and special occasions as the food is pricy. The margarita was undrinkable and I could taste processed food. The mashed potatoes didn't taste like fresh potatoes. The food and service has gone down hill.
The food was fabulous! Our Waitress, Tracy, was very friendly and attentive. Thank you for a delicious meal and pleasant dining experience.
food was fabulous - melt-in your-mouth good! i had the steak and shrimp and it was the best! portions are generous too. the service is friendly and good - they could have been a little quicker to acknowledge us after we were seated.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Southern CA. My husband proposed at Dana Point Jetty 2 yrs ago so we just went back to celebrate and our amazing server brought us cake to help celebrate. Nothing beats the view, the service, and the food.
Awesome as always! I love Sean & Maloo!!! Our dinners were so perfect.
We had experienced Cannon's before and the food was very good. We were having friends visit and thought this would be an excellent place for food & a good view. They were serving a seafood sampler that night and three out of four ordered it, the other the king crab salad. The salad had very little crab meat and what there was had pieces of the shell in it. The sampler had good presentation but a small amount of shrimp, salmon & swordfish for the price. Just not what we had expected.
You cannot beat the view. Absolutely beautiful. The service was good, however I just really found the menu lacking. You are overlooking the ocean and there is no steak and lobster, no halibut or sea bass. We have eaten there on and off for 20 years and always loved it. The menu needs improvement. This restaurant should be packed on Sat. night and it wasn't. I was really disappointed. It used to be top notch.
Good good and service. Made reservation through Open Table using comment area to denote this was birthday and engagement celebration. Our server and staff never acknowledged the event.
Would recommend they denote employee entrances as such to assist the diners from confusion.
