Candle Cafe West Ratings and Reviews
The staff was amazing. My reservation was for my Dad and I after I finished the NYC Marathon. I gave them a heads up he would be there before our reservation and asked if they could bend the rules and seat him so he didn’t have to stand - and they were great. I got there and they were super attentive. Drinks and food came in literal minutes. Superb vegan cuisine that uses fresh ingredients that are in season. Highly recommend them
Eggplant parmigiana was tasty. Curry cake didn't do a much for us nor did the side truffle potatoes. Ambiance was nice. Pink lady ( or pretty in pink?) cocktail was plane and tasted as if there were no alcohol in it. ( maybe I missed my orders? :) )
Servers were friendly and pleasant but I wish their attention was more balanced.
I was introduced to CCW by a client 2 years ago, and every time I have the opportunity, I invite friends who have never been or clients who have never been. The outcome is always the same: People love it. I bring my staunch "meat eating friends" and their plates are clean. Every time. I love the food and the juices, and the drinks. You really can't go wrong with anything there. I will continue to bring newbies to CCW and convert the City of New York, one person at a time. Great for a lunch meeting. It was pretty slow and very easy to hear.
We were a party of 4 and had the Mezze Plate, the Cajun Seitan sandwich, Eggplant Parmesan, Indian Curry Vegetable Cake, and Split Pea soup. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse pie and ice cream sampler. We left completely stuffed and loved most things. Our youngest daughter wasn't a big fan of the soup but the adults all liked it, and the server brought her extra bread and pita. All in all would definitely return and recommend to others!
It doesn't get much better!! I love this place. The service, the food, the energy. I was there visiting an old friend who I had not seen in years and we sat for a long time --- the staff were just friendly and we did not feel pushed out or anything while we visited. Classy place ---
Not cheap--- but not outrageous either
The food was very good overall, the server was friendly--and walked that fine line between being attentive and leaving us alone to our conversation. The hostess was also very nice, and took time to describe her favorite cocktails to us. We were celebrating a last get together before moving out of town, which was why we selected Candle Cafe West. It's got great food, but is very pricey so we only go there on special occasions. The restaurant is usually very loud, but it helped that we were seated at a somewhat quiet table, as I requested when I made my reservation. The nachos appetizer is amazing! And the scallopini is our favorite main course. I recommend this restaurant for vegans or anyone dipping their toe in veganism, as the whole menu is pretty delicious.
Food is of high quality and good sized, while for the price maybe isn’t the most innovative we’ve experienced. I found it very tacky that they charge you $2 for a few slices of generic store bread when we had a bottle of wine and full meal. Service was right on and atmosphere pleasant.
I don't follow a vegan diet, but this is a great place to go to with others who do...and also those who observe kashruth (jewish law governing what is okay to eat). i prefer to eat "real" food as opposed to vegan approximations which are featured on this menu. there are several tasty options for me. i often get the market plate...generous portions of a varied selection of side dishes plus dressings.
Candle Cafe west is beautiful vegan place with very tasty vegan menu that will please vegans and not only. Staff was very nice and accommodating for my allergies, which doesn't happen often. They even said they'd adjust a meal for me specially if I called in advance. SO very nice of them.
My summer risotto was tasty and I enjoyed an early dinner at Candle Cafe West. I've been to Candle 79 for special occasions and am happy to report that Candle Cafe West met the high standards set by Candle 79. I recommend it highly for inventive and delicious vegan menus.
The waiter recommended the entree special of grilled tofu, with peppers over noodles. The noodles were bland and white and absolutely flavorless. There were thin slivers of broccoli florets and minutia sized slivers of red bell pepper. The tofu was crispy on one side with seeds, and about one bite of the entire meal had any remote hint of flavor. The bill for two came to $84. I went home hungry and roasted tofu with a lemon juice, garlic, red pepper and scallion marinate, fire roasted a red pepper, and pumpkin seeds heated with olive oil, red pepper flakes, garlic. While hot, I stirred in al dente soba noodles with a tofu/tahini lemon dressing, roasted lemon slices, and covered it with the marinated tofu that I had in the oven. The cost of cooking at home was about ten dollars and was a thousand times better.
Took my wife there a second time , first time a few years ago . I started a vegan lifestyle about 2 weeks ago after watching a documentary on Netflix called I think " the food we eat " a must see for everyone a real eye opener . Back to the Candle it was amazing start to finish .
This is one of my all time favorites and standbys - when I want something healthy to eat that is flavorful, I'm there! I love their food - service is always wonderful and prompt. I wish there were more veggie protein options as I don't eat seitan, but I always find something and I love it. I've not been disappointed once.
Perhaps it just wasn't what I was expecting, but the seitan cheeseburger was underwhelming. It needed significantly more flavor. The pâté special we had as an appetizer was really nice. The chipotle chocolate brownie, which was shared for dessert, had great flavor, but edges were overdone. I'm a middle of the pan brownie man, so overdone edges did not make me happy. Also, the scoop of ice cream could have been just a big bigger considering the portion size of the brownie.
