About
Creative menu. Good food. Early pre show dinner hour so restaurant was pretty quiet
Great vegetarian food that even non-vegetarian loves it!
Big thumbs up to the Impossible Burgers and interesting seasonal cocktails. Might have to go vegetarian. Love this place and its sister restaurants. Thanks.
Love it here! Quiet enough to talk, but still fun. Delicious and creative vegan food. Had a lovely server, Lily, who was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing.
Melvin was our great waiter. He treated my ten year old son and elderly mother with great patience. Everything about this restaurant is great!
My food was very mediocre and quite expensive. We ordered peach pie that tasted like apple pie.
My friends were satisfied with their meal so perhaps it was what I ordered that did not satisfy.
I had quesadillas which were very tough and I really don't know what they were filled with.
What a pleasure for a vegetarian to have so many great choices! We will have to come back to try more of the selections. Delicious and innovative!
Always enjoy the candle brand! Had a great birthday dinner with a group of friends and all were satisfied!
They started cleaning our table before we were done. Not just clearing but CLEANING with some sort of chemical rag. I love this place and will continue to...but they can wait until we are done. It wasn’t busy.
This is my go to oasis . Healthy delicious food in quiet and charming venue .
Friendly staff and great happy hour and comfortable and spacious bar area as well .
Definitely worth checking out. Absolutely so if vegan or should you reside on the Upper West Side. I have a daughter who is a very picky eater and Candle lit her up.
As always, the food, atmosphere, and service were all impeccable!
The food was interesting and great tasting. My second time there and I'll definitely return! The eggplant parmesan is delicious.
Loved the new Impossible burger in particular but this place is always lovely and tasty.
Hostess was terrible. I arrived, gave my name and was seated. I was waiting for a friend to join me. 25 minutes passed and I was still waiting for my friend to join me, only to find out when I called him to see where he was, that he had been seated at another table about 2 minutes after I had arrived. Inexcusable. No apology. The hostess even had an attituxde when I questioned her as to why this had happened-- we had both given her my name, which was how the reservation was made. Also charged $2.00 for bread--actually it was 2 slices of toast. Really classless. Notwithstanding the above, food was excellent. Fire the hostess.
this menu was impressive and creative, but the actual cooking was not delicious in any way. My son did not like the rissotto, the sauce was overbearing and the risotto itself was too hard. I liked the polenta, but it was not anything i could not have assembled at home. Neither one of us exclaimed "yum" at all
The service was very good.
Candle Cafe West is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC because the food is not only vegan and environmentally-responsible it is creative and out-of-this-world delicious. It is consistently outstanding in terms of great food and the service always excellent.
Finally a main stream vegetarian option with a menu both vegetarians and non will love!
Food had a beautiful presentation.
No taste and like warm. Too expensive for what it was.
If you’re a vegan, it might work better
Thanks for a wonderful evening! The raw lasagna was really great
The Vegan eggplant Parmesan was absolutely amazing! Definitely try it! Great place and I want to try the other candle locations as well.
The peach pie on the desert menu was a disappointment .
I has has very little taste, the top crust felt like cereal.
Way over priced at $14.
My fave vegan place. Never had a bad meal there – and have been there many, many times! My all-time fave dish – spaghetti with wheatballs. We come with family and share appetizers. Good choice of wines and interesting cocktails.
I tried the impossible burger this time, and it tasted like a hearty charbroiled patty with smooth cheddar cheese. If you don’t want to be reminded of your meat eating days, I suggest you stay away. It was so filling and delicious. The peach pie was good, but not worth $14 for the slice.
It was my anniversary. I told them in the open table reservation and when the waitress came over she wished us a happy anniversary. Before she brought the check she also brought us two glasses of champagne. In addition to the food and service being excellent this extra touch made our day extra special.
Not just delicious vegan food, delicious food. Period.
PROS: Food was awesome as usual, presentation gorgeous, value for price good for NYC, and the ambiance was warm and inviting.
CONS: We felt unfairly pushed by the server to either move or order more. Considering the restaurant was 1/3 empty, there was really no need to be so pushy.
Also, just a note: I had the impossible burger at Candle Cafe West for dinner that night, and it was not as "wow" as people on social media seem to rave. It was kind of mushy. In the past, I have had Candle Cafe's own in house-made veggie burger and to be frank, I think their burger is way more delicious and meaty than the Impossible Burger.
Always delicious, clean and creative cuisine; great service, too!
The food wad delicious the vegs were done just right the waiter was very prompt he waited just the right amount of time after we finished our main course before showing us the desert menu... he enjoyed that we were enjoying our meal
Had Seitan Picatta, which is always delicious! My date had one of the specials (Scallopini) which really should be out on the everyday menu. It was great!!
One of my favorite vegan restaurants that I’ve been coming to for years. Highly recommended for any occasion.
I had the Market Platter with basmati rice, black beans, potato fries and caramelized onions. You can choose 4 sides to make the platter. My platter was delicious. The service was outstanding. My friend was cold at the table we were sitting at and Lily our server got another table for us. She made our dinner experience very cozy. We will be back.
The food is fabulous!
Very good menu choices at this UWS vegan restaurant. Really good and attentive service- gluten free options. Loved everything I ordered- innovative items, high quality ingredients and great presentation. Was really full when I left- that is a good thing- some places have teeny portions, these were good sized but not supersized-- can't wait to return. Menu keeps changing- that makes it fun-
My vegetarian 10 year old was thrilled with the kids menu.
I love the original Candle Cafe near Hunter College, so was delighted when another popped up on the west side. This one is a bit more up-scale, but is still casual. Delicious, healthy menu, creative preparation, friendly staff, amazing deserts, a great place to get together with friends, and even the non vegan-ites will love it.
This delightful restaurant offers creative and delicious vegan fare. I always try to have a meal there when I visit New York.
Food here is always very good. The menu items also vary from visit to visit a bit though most of the menu stays the same. There is very good variety. I like going out to a restaurant and eating food that I do not know how to make at home. I will definitely return.
All the servers were extremely accommodating and made sure that my friend and I were satisfied. They were able to change something to our desires and needs and offered to switch it if we didn’t enjoy it. The cafe was quiet making it easy to participate in conversation and have a quiet and mindful meal. The food was creative and has many great options for non vegetarians and vegans who are looking for non-meat options! Would gladly go back and recommend to anyone!
I was not impressed by the menu options. The avocado soup was like watered down chunky guacamole. The seitan was bland and tough. The vegetables were fresh and the wine was very nice.
