Really good vegan food in a beautiful space with nice servers.
I'm a gluten free vegan with my gluten free vegetarian partner took a couple of omnivors for dinner. Would have given an even higher rating if not for the server who tried like hell to steer me away from the special fig sorbet for dessert. She said that it didn't taste very good and she didn't like it. I insisted on it, and it was wonderful, exactly what I had hoped it would be. All of us shared it. The server didn't have to have any. She probably didn't like figs. Who cares?
Delicious, nutritious and inventive vegan cuisine in a lovely setting. Highly recommend!
Outstanding food - even for this carnivore. Added bonus that they have a great collection or organic whiskey. My vegetarian wife and my date night place of choice.
Great spot for vegetarians where they can order anything on the menu.
Very delicious. Thank you for the good service. Only thing is parking is not easy.
The food is absolutely delicious. I had the Nuevos Rancheros. They were so good, I got another order to go. I added spinach and broccoli to the order which made it even better. The ginger cleanse was also great. My husband had the pancakes AND the beyond burger. I think we thoroughly over did it but it was a great experience. Our friends got the burrito and the waffles. Also very tasty. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Our server, Christopher was awesome!!!
Amazing dishes, great ambience
Mediocre and uninspired
Good food, interesting choices, great service!
We love Candle West because we have a diverse set of dietary restrictions and the menu can meet them. Gluten free soy free and Vegan. And not just accommodate our needs, the dishes are delicious and the presentation pleasing. It’s our go to place for our group Birthday celebrations and we know the staff will be patient and understanding about our many questions about ingredients. We had a delightful Aquarian Birthday lunch, and look forward to many more visits.
Best vegan food experience I’ve ever had in NYC. Simply delicious!
I have eaten at Candle Cafe West many times, although I probably haven't been there in about a year. The menu was basically the same, although I would have to say that prices went up and portion size went down. The presentation was still lovely and our server was attentive and knowledgeable.
The cocktail prices have gone up and now rival those of their sister restaurant Candle 79. At an average of $16 per, I would think they would not water down, but it seems like they do. My Autumn Mule was delicious but there was so much ice, and not so much alcohol.
I chose the tried and true Seitan Piccata, which was not as good as usual. Mash was rather watery, not too much spinach was on the plate and the two small, thin pieces of seitan were a bit chewy. Seasoning was nice, however.
One of my friends had the spaghetti and wheatballs and those were hard as a rock. The two others I was with had the seitan cheeseburger and they seemed to enjoy that.
We had a few desserts, all very rich and satisfying.
I love CCW and it made me sad that it wasn't as wonderful as it usually is. There are so few excellent vegan restaurants that are not super casual, so this place was always very special.
First , I am not a vegan , secondly as a non vegan the vegan food at Thai restaurant was fantastic. Not sure if I would ever concert to bring a vegan however , it doesn't mean I can't say vegan food from time to time . great food , great service .
The menu is pretty standard. The food is high quality as always and Melvin is a great server. I don’t trek up to UWS often, but when I do, it’s for CCW and I’m never disappointed.
Good vegan food. Good service. A little over priced.
Wonderful brunch - delicious and plentiful portions. Will be returning...
Delicious vegan food. Our server recommended the brownie for desert...it was ymmy!
Lovely! Food was terrific
They failed to inform me on website when I booked that there was a pre-fix menu for $75 for Valentine's Day. They called me 2 days before and I was out of luck re-booking at another restaurant. Disappointed in this, although food is good.
The food was fine, but too expensive for what it was. My biggest complaint was how often we were told we had a "deadline" to leave the restaurant. When they called to confirm my reservation, they asked how much time I thought I would need for my meal, stating they had booked another reservation for the table 90 minutes after mine. Frankly, that's not my problem. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told by both the hostess and the waiter that we needed to be finished by the deadline. I'm not a person who languishes at a table for hours while not ordering and I don't appreciate being rushed out the door. I would never visit this place again, especially not for a special occassion when we wanted to enjoy wine and conversation and, you know, a reasonable amount of time to complete a 4-course meal.
We went here for Valentine’s Day. For the price, I have had tremendously better Vegan food. Perhaps since it was a busy night, things did not go well but for 200+ dollar dinner I expect the food to at least be more than just OK.
I was extremely disappointed with the 'price-fixed' meal on Valentine's day that had a 'chopped salad' on the menu which was nothing but some lettuce interspersed with slices of red pepper with a no taste dressing....and it wasn't chopped. The fettuccine was also bland and tasteless surrounded by some vegetables. A thoroughly forgettable meal that was accompanied by a hefty, inappropriate bill.
Amazing beyond burger! My meat eater boyfriend loved it too! Great server, and two big entrees plus a bottle of wine was $100 WITH TIP!
Expensive for what it is.
Food was just ok.
Could improve on more natural and organic options.
Very nice restaurant with a great ambience. Catching up with a friend and it is nice when you can have a conversation. The food was excellent and so was the smoothie I had. Friendly staff. Definitely will be back.
The restaurant always seems understaffed on sunday for brunch. Sadly Im yet to get a bowl of pea soup, constantly sold out.
I come almost every sunday .
This is the first time w had a waitress who seemed to care. She is from dublin and a pro.
Good food and interesting menu, but the dishes are possibly trying too hard. Complexity can be enhancing vegan cusine, but menu lacked authenticity in my taste.
Typical place where I want to try everything but I will be unimpressed by most.
We need this place to stay in business and do great so we’ll remain supportive of great quality and choices.
I am vegan and celiac (strictly gluten free) and it can be difficult to find a nice restaurant where I can eat with my non-vegan, non-celiac family. Candle Cafe's offerings were delicious. I highly recommend them. They are very aware of food allergies and it is clear that awareness is shared by the kitchen.
This is one of my favorite places to eat. Absolutely everything on the menu is great. Their new addition of the Beyond Berger knocks it out of the park. Service is good and noise level is low. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.
The specials of the day were outstanding. I highly recommend the artichoke bruschetta. My husband and I enjoyed appetizer, entrees, and dessert. 10 out of 10.
Wonderful as always. Great, tasty, healthy, innovative food choices. Very helpful wait staff.
Never disappointed at Candle Cafe West. Had dinner with a cousin who had never eaten at the restaurant. She loved it. Shared guacamole, chimmichuras, rolls and a salad. All delicious!
Love the options and the presentation of this very good food.
A bit disappointed by the quality of the food. I wish they’d simply double down on putting veggie at the center and make it shine vs. doing a bunch of meat dish imitations. Portions were huge, too many ingredients - yet surprisingly bland, and overpriced for what you get. Dining room is one of the nicer ones on the UWS, service was great.
The host graciously changed the table so that I could sit on the banquet. The specials looked inviting and when they came they were exactly as written. The wines by the glass were excellent. The apple crumb dessert w/ ice cream was delicious. The best part for us was that the restaurant was full yet QUIET. We could talk without shouting. This has become a rarity in NYC.
Good service and very interesting and varied menu for vegetarians.
The ambience is beautiful, the service attentive and kind. The food was lovely, tastefully prepared and arranged, delicious. This is our favorite restaurant. We met several friends for a special birthday, asked for quiet away from the door, and were accomodated in a pretty little area, behind us decorative blackboard with a thought about respect for life. We loved being here.
This was my third visit (two lunch, one dinner). Creative menu, helpful and informed waitstaff, and surprisingly tasty food.
Candle Cafe West along with its sister Candle 79 - are the vest vegan restaurant! Period.
Large selection, healthy, and everything is good!!! I love this restaurant.
