Food was incredible, fast service, and overall amazing atmosphere!
A great selection from which to choose, pleasant and efficient service and delicious food!
Outstanding variety and quality of vegan food. Always reliably good.
The upstairs waiter was all by himself so our service was not stellar. Still, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan.
My family and I love the food at Candle 79. My husband is the only vegan in the family but we all look forward to dining there. We eat every bit of food. We never have leftovers.
Wonderful food and service!
And a lovely surprise complimentary dessert for a birthday celebration with a friend.
Love the Menu, Staff is very pleasant and accommodating
Disappointed to finally go here and it to feel run down and dated. Menu didn’t have a fresh approach. Very seiten heavy. Been to much better. Blossom for sure.
Even though we were there when the restaurant opened for dinner, it took an hour and 20 minutes to get our entrees and over a half an hour to get appetizers for two. No one apologized or explained what was taking so long. We finally had to tell them that we had to leave to make a show. That didn’t change anything (even though one of the entrees was only spaghetti and meatballs). When the food came, it was awful...
Went there for an early Mother’s Day brunch. Didn’t know vegan food could taste so good. Staff was all really nice.
Food was absolutely spectacular and our waitress was amazing. For sure plan to return!
Unparalleled quality of ingredients, flavor and service.
I went with a self-described “carnivore,” and we both cleaned our plates! The reviews on the mushroom crepe are true; it’s delicious. The only issue was that they forgot to bring out my polenta fries, but I forgot too and didn’t remind our server. I will definitely be back!
Candle 79 is truly a divine experience. You don't need to be a vegan to love their amazing dishes. I requested a table by the window via OpenTable, and they honored the request. It was a special occasion to dine with a dear friend who travels a long distance to NYC once a year. It's relaxing, comfortable, elegant and warm.
Excellent service, great food would recommend for anyone not only vegetarians!!!
Loved it here. Our first time. Food was great. Our meat eating friends loved as well. Wish I lived closer- I’d be back!
I can’t believe that this is a highly rated restaurant. Pros: good drinks and good service. Cons: The food is terrible. The guacamole appetizer was tasteless and served with rice crackers. The mushroom crepe and cauliflower dish were ok at best. The flavor was awkward. Not good and not bad - just bleh. I’m not sure why I paid $120 for this meal.
Most amazing vegan food in NYC. Highly recommend the mezze plate as a starter. The Caesar salad and cauliflower steak were both as delicious. The kombucha beer was so good too! Candle exceeds my expectations every time!
I had heard so much about this place and finally went. First off, the customers were not what I expected for a vegan place. A very 60+ aged crowd. Weird. The food was excellent. The best vegan food I've had, hands down. Definitely worth the hype. I had the spaghetti and wheat balls, which was delicious. My friend and I split the spring vegetable salad which was wonderful and light and refreshing. And we also split the mushroom ravioli starter (I think it was mushroom), which was very tasty and good to start. We had dessert. I had the berry crumble which was good -solid. not fantastic, but good. The only thing I wasn't happy about was how overpriced some of it was. Cocktails start at $17(!). I had the cheapest glass of wine I could find, which was $13. The entrees are about $22-30, so not terrible, but some of the starters were almost as expensive! And at least the one we got was not big. Desserts were also pricey - $13-15, I think. I felt like some of the prices were not justified at all. It was just expensive for the sake of being expensive. Other than that, it was great overall and I would definitely go back for a special occasion.
Food, drinks, and service (Miranda was great!) were amazing! Will definitely be back soon.
Service and terrific and the food delicious!
Candle 79 continues to be on our Top 10 list in New York. We are not vegans or vegetarians and we LOVE this restaurant! Wild Mushroom Crepe is fabulous! But so is everything we've ever tried at Candle 79. My first time there, I bought the cookbook, then put together an entire supper club menu from it. Rave reviews. It's good enough to make more than one trip there on a single visit to NYC. In a city where price often exceeds quality, Candle 79 delivers quality at a price you're happy to pay.
My second time and I hope to go 22 more times!!! n
The food is generally good, but this time was less impressed than on previous visits. And service was clumsy with the cocktails serviced with the entrees and the main courses unceremoniously dropped down on the already tiny table before we were even half way through our entrees (large bowls of soup), and those dishes then not cleared until well after we were done and trying with difficulty to get to the mains.
Already recommended to several friends. Excellent food, great service, intimate and upscale.
Loved a lot about this place. Loved the piccata with its luscious, elegant lemon caper gravy. Loved the cornmeal crusted artichokes, it may be my favorite treatment of an artichoke ever. Anything that involves a mushroom is a likely a good bet, the ravioli and salad were the two I throughly enjoyed. I loved the comfy unpretentious ambience, approachable yet sophisticated. What I didn’t love was the inattentive, practically absent and rather “judgey,” waiter. He did a huge disservice to this restaurant by being aloof and behaving as if he knew better than his patrons. A good waiter should be inviting whilst informative. They should listen, offer encouragement, and direct you to a decision. Another thing I didn’t love was the menu in general. It’s a bit all over the map. It gives one the feeling that it’s still deciding what kind of restaurant it wants to be. A burger, timbale, piccata, crepes, burrito, nachos, pad thai... is it fine dining? Casual? A diner? Its confusing. It’s a not a big complaint, but as a New Yorker, I’ve never been a fan of one stop shopping restaurants. Jack of all trades, master of none. For sure, go for the food, just try and ignore, and perhaps forgive the rather arrogant service.
The food and service were great. Definitely on the pricey end but we really enjoyed it
Extraordinary flavors and delicious food. The people were kind. The manager Benae made sure we were pleased with our meal.
Candle 79 is my favorite restaurant! It’s upscale, organic, plant-based, and creative! The food is always outstanding as are the beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). On this visit, we were a party of eight. We shared the generous starters and salad and each ordered our own favorite entree. Well-sated, we shared desserts. The non-dairy desserts are fantastic! Despite the size of our party, service was excellent! We all enjoyed a wonderful meal!
Have eaten there mxny times and loved it. Took a vegsn friend for the first time; her mom recently died, so it was an important time of sharing.
Waiter told us we had the last two eggplants. Then someone came and said there was no more. What we had instead was awful. She left hers on the plate; I had mine wrapped to take home and recook/reseason myself. We were told the carrot cake was good xnd were still hungry because our main dishes were nearly inedible, so we ordered the cc. It was a mini muffin that tasted like cardboard with no carrot in sight or taste. The waiter treated us like we were inconsequential. The manager was sweet and took $6 off our bill b/c we had to reorder. I wish we’d left znd gone next door to the Italian restaurant! Very bad experience for s plzce that has previously been spectacular. It embarrassed me to tske my grieving friend there.
Wonderful healthy food. Decor could use updating. Staff wonderful
Super welcome, great food and a perfect place for a birthday lunch. Thank you.
What an amazing dinner ! The mezze were fantastic 😍 Next time we go to NY, will return, for sure !
Booked this restaurant for Easter Sunday and could not recommend it enough. The food was incredible and the staff attentive and polite. So pleased we made time during our holiday from the UK to come here, thank you!
Excellent food, carefully prepared. Very good, original flavor combinations.
Vegan place with a really nice menu. I had the “Special of the Day” which was pasta with zucchini and a delicious sauce. My husband had the spaghetti with whiteballs which was good too. One of my friends had the cauliflower which looked spectacular and my other friend a salad which she said was good too.
They offer cocktails and a fair wine menu. The place is cozy and the service was really good.
We are regulars now, and love the food and service.
Finally, a veggie restaurant that combines great vegetarian food, with classy service and elegant atmosphere. A huge thumbs up.
Wonderful place! Went to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Great service, excellent food - so creative and so delicious! Will make this place our monthly family dinner place.
