As a vegetarian, it's always a delight to go somewhere where I can eat anything on the menu. I ordered the cauliflower wild mushroom risotto and my friend got the mushroom crepe- both were incredibly satisfying and perfectly portioned where we were full but didn't feel heavy.

I love finding places that I can bring non-vegetarians where they walk out and admit that they didn't even miss having meat with their meal. I will definitely be returning to try out more of the menu!

This spot near central park is our favorite spot in upper east side. Their food is vegan, but super tasty. The service is great as well.

Seated promptly...my daughter and I split a guacamole timbale with crunchy plantains ... delish! I ordered Wild Mushroom Crepe (crepe was soggy, had no mushroom taste, did not taste truffle oil). Daughter ordered Moroccan Spiced Chickpea Cake. Was tastier than mine, but very dry. Not impressed. However, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bliss dessert was heavenly as was the Vanilla Cinnamon Crepe. Was very pricey for a bunch of vegetables. Not sure if I would return.

I was so excited to try Candle 79 because of the fantastic reviews but unfortunately it was a miss for us...

We went off the server's recommendations and even after going on their website to refresh my memory of their menu... all I can remember are the empanadas that were just okay. (We were just there last week!) We also had some sort of uneventful salad and a few other items that I could not identify looking at their menu now.

I hope that the server's palate was just different from ours and we just didn't order correctly. I see that many reviewers really enjoy their food so I would like to try it again one day but I'm definitely not in a rush to go back.

(Despite his recs not suiting our palate, the server was a delightful man who wanted to be very helpful. Service was very good, the restaurant was charming... )

My daughter who is 19 is a newly converted Vegan. The menu was a bit complicated for a teenager. I think that she would preferred a vegan burger and fries joint. The food was edible but not overwhelming. My test is always... would I come back again? Probably not, I was underwhelmed and the food was overpriced.

Celebrated becoming Vegatarian at Candle79. The food was great and the music was also great and quiet enough to have an actual conversation.

It was a pleasant find. We had Guacamole Timbale, Pomegranate-BBQ Seitan Skewer (amazing!), Wild Mushroom Crepe (Nice!), and Cannoli (Great!) for dessert. Overall, this place was fantastic in every way and we will likely visit again. Kudos to the server who recommended Skewer. Absolutely delicious.

Three of us enjoyed dinner here Dec 29th. An exceptional experience all-round. Menu was extremely interesting- it was difficult to make a choice and we were all thrilled with our selections. Excellent quality and presentation. Decent wine list and very good service. I would definitely return and would highly recommend this restaurant.

We appreciated the attention to our early arrival and shifting our 6:30 reservation up to the opening time of 5:30 as we braved the very cold temps last week. The service was outstanding, the food was delightful and the ambiance quite soothing. Thanks for a splendid dinner after a day with Michaelangelo's drawings...

Pedestrian vegan fare. Selections were uninspired. I expected much more because the online reviews listed it as the best vegan restaurant in New York.

Was not enamored by the place. Rhis was our second venture to this place after a span of almost 10 years. While options have improved, quality has not. Also for the price of the food i had higher expectations of the flavors and presentation. Felt like eating corner food at high-end price

Food was great, though the dessert left much to be desired. Went with my parents and my vegan sister who can be a nutter about her vegan stuff. Service was pretty poor though I’d probably be cranky too if i had to serve meat lookalikes all day and not the real thing.

We went the night before Christmas eve to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. Was not happy with the outcome of our experience even though the food was phenomenal. We ordered a number of appetizers, entrees, dessert and drinks. During our meal the restaurant next door went on fire, their restaurant was evacuated, the street closed down and fire trucks lined the street. Our restaurant filled with smoke, and the smell of burning rubber was awful. The hostess had to continually prop the door open because the smell and the smoke was so bad, so we had to either eat with an awful smell or be freezing cold. Several times we and other groups asked if we should be evacuated and we were told everything was fine. We weren't comp'd a drink nor did we get anything off our bill. For the noise from the sirens, the horrible smell, the smoke that filled the restaurant, and the freezing cold temperature we had to eat in due to the door being propped open.. you would think management would want to do something to keep patrons happy during the experience. I was a bit surprised considering this restaurant was quite pricey and the experience was so awful.

Succulent food. Vegetarian meals, innovative kitchen. The atmosphere was mostly quiet. The waitresses were dressed as for Christmas which was sweet and gave a nice little festive touch. I recommend.

This has been my favorite restaurant since I first discovered it in 2007 while living in New York City. I now live almost 400 miles away along the Canadian border, and make sure to visit Candle 79 at least annually. This visit did not disappoint. Came in on Christmas Eve with my fiance, and we gorged on seitan skewers, empanadas, biscuits and gravy, and Benedict 79. Everything was absolutely delicious: this, coming from a vegan of 17 years and her fiance, an omnivore with an appreciation for all foods but who was blown away by the creativity of flavor and presentation of every dish here. We had a fabulous time and can't wait to come back again!

You will never think of vegan food the same after eating here. The delicious way the food is prepared leaves you very satisfied. My new favorite place on the upper east side, don’t know what took so long to come here. Highly recommend eating at Candle 79 and their sister restaurants.
