Candle 79 is one of the best if not the best vegan restaurants in NYC. The waitpersons are very aware that people who eat there may have allergies and so are extra careful on making sure that patron's food needs are satisfied.
Really delicious food, very impressive. Will definitely be going back when I get the chance
my husband and I ate here for our anniversary. we’re from NJ so we don't have access to a lot of nice vegan restaurants here so eating here was not only the right romantic vibe but the food was absolutely amazing! the spaghetti and wheatballs and the mac n cheese had us anticipating our next visit !
First visit but easy to find from 77st subway, a nice environment and friendly service. Fully vegan menu with specials as well. Enjoyed the meal well worth visiting.
This was an awesome place to dine. Went with my wife for our anniversary and wow! Candle 79 you did not disappoint! Will dedinitely come back to try the other great dishes on the menu.
fantastic food in a quiet setting. We were not rushed and the service was excellent. Our reservation was taken on time and the table was perfect.
Excellent as always
Quickly accommodated the small children in the group
Prefer the West side (which closed) menu sele
As usual the food was delicious and the service was great. Always a wonderful dining experience. Can’t wait to come back again.
Not just great vegan, simple great! One of the best restaurants in NYC!
strange to run out of stem wine glasses...i could pick up 12 for u at crate and barrel and drop them off...
"i rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!"
The only fly in the ointment is a slightly unfriendly and superior tone on the phone, and a little middle-aged woman who seemed to be the manager who was grumpy, rude, and unhelpful. The owners are wonderful and not at all snobby, the food is wonderful, and the place is lovely, so it's just a matter of getting past the guard dog.
Magnificent food. Starters were all amazing. We ordered three and shared. Salads were good, particularly the avocado. The main courses were delicious and filling. We ordered a total of 8 items for four people and it was just right. Cherry Spritzer was light and fruity. Service was attentive and friendly. It helps this was the restaurant where we had our first date seven years ago. Menu always feels fresh. I wish there was a Candle 43 so we don't need to walk 36 blocks. But worth it everytime.
Amazing food as usual! Love their pancakes and quesadillas! And the owner is always around and so nice, makes a huge difference! A+ hospitality!
Great atmosphere, great food (and espresso martini!), lovely area, can’t wait to go back!
For vegans, this is a charming night out with loads of choices. Even the vegan needs gluten free, dairy free cuisine. That's a big plus. However, the managerial policies left much to be desired for us. I had reserved long in advance and when I arrived, the hostess wanted to seat us in the bar. That's never happened to us with a reservation at a good restaurant. Worse, when they offered us seating upstairs, we were told, at 7:00, that we'd have to leave by 9:00. Even worse, while we were talking to the first hostess, a second one came over with another couple and, in a very nasty tone, demanded that we make an immediate decision. The manager told us that Ms. Nasty was known as a problem and that they were dealing with it. Reasonable. But the policy of clearing a table in a fine dining establishment is NOT. At least not for us. You decide.
Ted was a helpful and great! I had come to celebrate my father’s birthday and he truly enjoyed every dish and drink. Definitely will be returning soon!
Lots of choices for gluten free folks like myself. And the lady who's birthday I was celebrating was pleased with the non-gluten free choices. It is unusual for a restaurant to please both of us, but Candle 79 managed to do it.
I will be back.
Been going here for years and sorry to say, the upstairs is looking tired and worn...and the food is no longer excellent. What's going on??
Possibly the most excellent vegan restaurant We have had the pleasure of dining in!
Every time I go to Candle 79 its an amazing experience . This time was no different .
Fantastic selections on the menu. Great quality.
In spite of several conversations which were very welcoming they were not ready for our family celebration. When we arrived on time The staff was polite but unenthusiastic and they had to wait for permissions to provide enough chairs for our table. So we all stood around. Waiting for permission which eventually arrived. The room was dingy and air conditioning was not working. Food was very good except for desserts which were mediocre. $600 dinner was not worth the price. And it did not feel at all like a celebration environment. Good enough for diner type feeling dinner only
This was our first time at Candle 79 and suffice it to say, we’ll definitely be back. The staff was extremely polite and attentive, the food was excellent (vey fresh and very well seasoned), and the music was perfect; loud enough to hear, yet soft enough to not disturb the mood.
We love The Candle!
We enjoyed every item from app to fantastic dessert! Highly recommend and will be back.
The loveliest oasis in NYC! And the food is amazing.
Salads were good. The nut cheese was fine. I had the stuffed squash special it was excellent. The flat bread was good. Dessert cannoli was ok. The fresh juices were wonderful and a great alternative to alcohol. We will definitely return.
One of my favorite plant-based restaurants in NYC. Never disappoints.
becoming my neighborhood go to. love the food, the mood, the location.
Seriously delicious food. Miraculous. Regardless of being vegan or not,the food is so good it challenges one’s cooking and eating notions.
First time bringing my date. He loved everything Thank yiu
Food is pretty good (all vegan), but very expensive for what it is.
Wonderfully prepared, healthy food with gluten-free options. A great discovery!
I wanted to visit this one for quite a while - and it did not disappoint! Great food, large portions ( had to take out half of the starter to have enough room for the main) and very friendly staff. Next time I am in the area, I would come back!
We had lunch here before going to the Metropolitan Museum. The food was very good - particularly the tomato-basil soup. Our waiter was great - very courteous and willing to answer all of our questions. We love the Met and often struggle to find someplace interesting to eat with a nice atmosphere. This fit the bill.
It was our 20th wedding anniversary. The food was amazing as usual. The watermelon salad was out of this world!!
Always enjoy this food even though I'm FAR FROM A VEGAN. Everything is so thought out and perfectly prepared. Delicious...
Incredible what they can do with vegetarian fare. Everything was delicious.
Not our fistst visit and we will definitely be back.
The burrito was outstanding
Always fantastic! Every time I come to NYC I always have dinner at Candle 79 I have never been disappointed.
