Amazing ravioli as a starter and crepe as the main course. Strongly recommend. Ambience is good for dates. Great service. Easily my favorite restaurant in all of new york.
A great first experience of vegetarian restaurant dining in New York
Excellent and creative food!
I love this place.
Consistently good vegan choices. Everything I’ve had is delicious.
This place is awesome and is one of my go to places for date days with my husband, birthday and anniversaries.
It’s a shame the building was sol and the restaurant is closing at the end of 2019.
If you can eat here before they close, I highly recommend it as it has always been a wonderful vegan dining experience
I was in town and wanted to try a vegan restaurant that also had gluten free options. The food was really good. They had a separate menu for gluten free. I saw on the regular dinner menu they had truffle mushroom ravioli but there were no gluten free option for that dish. There were many options to choose from on the gluten free menu. I spent a lot of money for my dinner with the appetizer, salad, dinner, dessert, cappuccino and a glass of wine. It amounted to $100 which is not a viable way for dining. Service was not good as they have aloof men for waiters. The women were only seating people. I couldn’t relate to their waiters because they took a long time to provide service. I didn’t get my wine with my appetizer and no one came to my table and when I got my salad I asked for my wine and they finally brought it. I was unimpressed with their service. I was also seated by the stairs on the 2nd level and there was a lot of servers walking around. Too noisy for me
Delicious food! Big portions for the most part. However, cocktails and apps are overpriced.
Always a very pleasurable vegetarian meal that is anything but boring
Very good experience. Resonable price, not cheap. Only drawback was a woman at the next table with a very loud voice.
Candle is always the best. Cozy, delicious, and elegant. Always.
Delicious and healthy food served by an indifferent staff.
I love this restaurant so much. I always enjoy my meal. The mac and cheese was a bit off on flavor this last visit and it was a little disappointing. Thr very delicious polenta fries made up for it. I mean they were so delicious. As usual the cauliflower appetizer was great. Service was good and of course the peanut butter bliss was spectacular.
This is our go-to vegan restaurant every time we find ourselves in NYC.
Yes it was awesome! The food met our expectations, and it was amazing that it was all plant based!
Wonderful restaurant. Great food and service as well as friendly atmosphere. Low noise level and well spaced tables. Perfect place if you are interested in talking with your companions Not common in Manhattan
This is such an amazing restaurant we went back a second time and it was every bit as good as the first time. It is expensive but the food is so amazing, I am able to justify it. Bought the 3 cookbooks too.
Nice place, attentive service, good tasty food. Neighborhood vegetarian restaurant with a smooth atmosfere. A little bit too dark for reading the menu. Good size portions, regular ues costumers, especially ladies
Even my meat eater friend was impressed. I was super happy with my seaweed salad.
It was fabulous, amazing options for vegan/vegetarian. Everything was delicious and unique
We had an 8 pm reservation and arrived several minutes early. We were not seated until 8:20– the restaurant was clearly overbooked. The staff could not keep straight who we were. The food was disappointing. I do a lot of vegetarian cooking and should have stayed home . The food was overpriced and mediocre at best. Had a much better experience at candle west and candle cafe.
Amazing atmosphere, great service, and even better food!
Food was terrific and the waiter was excellent, We had two entrees and split it with my dining partner. Both were excellent.
I am not a vegan and enjoyed the food. Atmosphere is nice, waiters and busboys- polite, knowledgable and and attentive, but not annoyingly so.
Price point for what are essentially vegetables- well, a bit high. But it is East 79th Street in Manhattan, so keep that in mind when thinking about eating here. They have a sister cafe nearby that isn't as high end and still enjoyable.
Overall, a very pleasent experience.
We try to go to Candle 79 each time we’re in New York because the food is wonderful with service to match. We’ll definitely be back soon.
A client recommended we dine here, and I always listen to her! I’m not vegan and neither is my mom, but we love eating vegan meals. I had the seitan piccata and she had the mushroom crepe. WOW they were both amazing and so much flavor! I also had the Pear Tree cocktail, and it was so refreshing! Our waiter was very attentive and polite without being too in your face. I would definitely come back!
The hostesses seemed a little stressed out, but it wasn’t a big deal :)
Always a treat to go to Candle 79
Eating here made me consider changing my eating habits! Blown away by all the flavors I experienced!
We had a lovely evening celebrating our anniversary while in NYC. Dinner and Central Park made it a special date with fond memories. It was hard to pick which dish to go with and enjoyed everything we ordered! I would recommend it all! The eggplant parmigiana (amazing), chickpea cakes with ginger apricot chutney (sweeter than expected), an appetizer with butternut squash and kale, and peanut butter chocolate mousse for dessert. Before dinner we strolled in Central Park, got a portrait done by a very talented street artist, and walked over to the restaurant. We were hoping to do a carriage ride, but that didn’t work out. Our experience at Candle 79 was delightful, and I’d love to go back for the fancy, healthy food and beautiful ambience.
Second visit to Candle 79. Both experiences were wonderful. Great food choices, portions, service, atmosphere. Ginger Zinger lived up to its name. Walking distance from The Met and Breuer museums. Not a morsel of food left on anyone's plate. Would definitely return.
All of the food here was amazing and very well presented. The only dish that wasn’t up to the quality of the restaurant was the side cauliflower dish. It could be personal but I didn’t like the taste or the presentation of the dish. I loved all the other food and will definitely go again!
Food was less impressive than I expected. A lot of the same ingredients/sauces multipurposed. Flavours all just kind of melded together into one generic flavour. Service was a bit spotty.
My first time there and the food was surprisingly good. The ambience/decor was strange and did not match with food. I would recommend there if the ambience improved.
Candle 79 is one of the best if not the best vegan restaurants in NYC. The waitpersons are very aware that people who eat there may have allergies and so are extra careful on making sure that patron's food needs are satisfied.
Really delicious food, very impressive. Will definitely be going back when I get the chance
my husband and I ate here for our anniversary. we’re from NJ so we don't have access to a lot of nice vegan restaurants here so eating here was not only the right romantic vibe but the food was absolutely amazing! the spaghetti and wheatballs and the mac n cheese had us anticipating our next visit !
First visit but easy to find from 77st subway, a nice environment and friendly service. Fully vegan menu with specials as well. Enjoyed the meal well worth visiting.
This was an awesome place to dine. Went with my wife for our anniversary and wow! Candle 79 you did not disappoint! Will dedinitely come back to try the other great dishes on the menu.
fantastic food in a quiet setting. We were not rushed and the service was excellent. Our reservation was taken on time and the table was perfect.
Excellent as always
Quickly accommodated the small children in the group
Prefer the West side (which closed) menu sele
