Amazing food! I'm a bit sorry that they've taken off the Impossible Burger--or any dinner sandwich options, actually. The other slightly off note was the onion rings--not as crispy as before, and a bit greasy. But the new cauliflower appetizer is extraordinary, and very big! The Sancerre was delicious, and the desserts were wonderful, too.

we have been going to C79 for years. Tried some new items on menu - starter spicy cauliflower, entree eggplant and blueberry pie(?) dessert - all exceptionally tasty. Had vodka-based cocktail which was excellent (if a bit strong!). A great meal!

It was our second time eating here. It was absolutely delicious. I had spaghetti and veggie meatballs and my husband had the seitan special. We had strawberry rhubarb vegan ice cream for dessert. We had the artichoke and asparagus appetizer.

Wonderful food. Server Andrew was great. Had the beyond burger.

My only complaint about this place is it has 2 bathrooms, not enough to service a restaurant of this volume. They also need to be cleaned more often.

For all vegans, definitely worth visiting. I enjoyed the spaghetti and wheatballs. I have wanted spaghetti with meatball (since becoming a non-meat eater) for a long time, so it was refreshing to have it with the wheatballs. Worth going to!

Our first time at a true referenced Vegan Restaurant. The food was great and the experience wonderful, starting with our very knowledgeable wait person. He explained the preparations of the dishes, and gave us great guidance into choosing the dishes we enjoyed. We had the Avocado Salad, The Ravioli, and the Chocolate dessert. All excellent!

Excellent food, although slightly precious and overcomplicates. Need a simple salad option to go with the excellent entrees. The eggplant “Parmesan” and the spaghetti with wheat balls were extremely good, as was the strawberry-rhubarb cobbler. The dishes are quite pricey, though, so be prepared to spend money.

We had a wonderful dining experience. But $12 for a non-alcoholic ginger ale, as delicious as it was, is a bit expensive. I have already recommended Candle 79 to friends, but to me it's a special occasion place since it is a little pricey, even for the Upper East Side of Manhattan. But great food.

Fantastic!! We got the cauliflower appetizer and it was more than we expected and so very good. For meals we had the eggplant parmigiana and spaghetti and wheat balls which were the best I had ever had. Drinks were great and desert was also fantastic. Will definitely be going back and will have to try one of the desert cocktails.

This was my first time at Candle 79, previously we have visited Candle West.
I really liked the range of food and drink on offer. The food itself was tasty, and well presented, the cocktails were terrific.

The lighting and noise level created a good ambience. The table service was friendly and attentive.

The only black mark for me was that, when the barman brought our cocktails over, I asked him to take a quick photo of the two of us with the drinks, but he said that he was too busy.

Ok, I understand that that may be true, it was busy. However, he was quite offhand and brusque, which backfooted me and embarrassed me. So despite the great service from our other table staff, it was that incident that I took away for our visit.

The food is absolutely amazing. Some items (such as the ceasar salad) were in our opinion a bit overpriced. Next time we also might ask to be seated at a table where we have a bit more space as well. But overall everything was exquisite!

Food was ok. Server we had was the biggest problem. He was aloof and sarcastic but in a rude way. Didn’t know much about the food on the menu. I asked for s recommendation between 2 items and he said,”just get the special.” I asked why he felt it was the better option and he said,” because it’s a special.” We waited a long time for food though every person around us received there’s and we were sat first. Food was cold like it sat for a bit. Kate McKinnon from SNL was sat behind us and he said to get,” you were in that movie...it was funny..who was the other actress in it? She was awesome!” And ignored Kyle Mooney from SNL who was with her. Just not the way celebrities should be treated.

The food and service were good. I selected this place because it was advertised as "fine dining" for us vegan folk but it really just had a "diner" kind of feel to it. There was a bigger group sitting in the back portion of the restaurant that were entirely too loud that diners were asking to be moved due to the ruckus. Actually, when we checked in with the hostess she tried to have us seated on the first floor. When I asked to be seated upstairs, she warned that there was a large party and that they were loud, but to feel free and check it out. I had high hopes for this place as it was a special occasion and I was excited that I was able to find a "fine dining" atmosphere. It was anything but that. :(

This place is amazing! One of my all time favorites. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything is vegan, and there are many gluten free options, including desert! I love the mushroom crepe, but there are so many delicious entrees and specials, it is sometimes hard to choose. We usually end up getting multiple dishes and sharing. The service is alway excellent too. I would highly recommend Candle 79.

Some of the best vegan meals in the country, with a little something for everyone, including your non-vegan friends (it's still all vegan, but they won't care). Cocktails created by someone who understands the power of fresh ingredients and blending flavors. Masterful desserts. Friendly, professional staff.

I’ve been to Candle 79 before and had a great dining experience. But this time was s but different. We found a few rocks in our appetizer by biting into them which they graciously took off our bill. I was generally underwhelmed by the experience. The way that they handled the situation regarding our app left us not feeling great about the rest of the meal. From a hospitality standpoint it left much to be desired.

I love this restaurant! I am not a vegan-because it is so time-consuming-but eating vegan makes me feel so much better. Candle 79 has incredibly delicious food it’s interesting and introduces me to dishes that I may not have experienced otherwise. My only complaint about the restaurant is that it’s starting to feel a little dingy They need to replace the covers on the banquettes

The food was ridiculously good. My wife is Vegan and GF and she rarely gets so many choices. The service was fine dining feel with water refills and check-ins consistent with top end restaurants. The dining room was really cold and somewhat uncomfortable, but It was a very hot day in NYC. Definitely would go back and love to try the UWS and other locations.

Several excellent vegetarian dining destinations have appeared in New York in recent few years, but Candle 79 is still our favorite. The food, service, ambiance, and location are hard to beat. Menu items are creative and interesting without being so esoteric that you don’t know what you’re ordering. Even omnivores will find plenty of enticing options here. Highly recommended.

Definitely not what I remember. Two of us ordered skewers which were sent back virtually uneaten. No one even bothered to ask why. Main dish came out with appetizers, waitstaff was arranging silverware loudly for half the time, table was very uncomfortable and not in main dining room which was requested early when reservation was made. Used to be one of our favorites but highly unlikely we will return!
