Absolutely the best vegan restaurant group in the city. All 3 Candle restaurants have the most delicious & beautifully prepared vegan food I have ever tasted. They are #1 on my list.

Good food but I wouldn’t call it find dining. It probably used to be but hasn’t kept up the standard perhaps.

we have eaten at Candle 79 many times. it's now reached the point where it needs new management.
1) 1/2 of our order was excellent; the other half terrible
2) a screaming kid was present and persisted in screaming the entire hour we were there. The restaurant management did nothing and said nothing to the parents so all patrons had to endure his screeching for an entire hour.
3) the coat check person clearly was interested only in a tip and made it so obvious that it was almost a joke.
Note: I've rated the noise level as "energetic" not based on anything nice about the noise but instead the screaming kid.

It will be a long time before we return based on Sunday's experience.

Every bite was simply amazing to the point where even non-vegan friends couldn’t believe it. The only thing that was not so good was the mushroom crepe as it was quite bland even with extra sauces. However, the staff were so kind they even removed it from the bill. The eggplant parm and Seitan Piccata were out of this world! Empanadas and buffalo cauliflower were just as great. I can’t wait to go here again.

Everything at Candle 79 is outstanding but you must have the mushroom crepe. It’s to die for. I’m gluten free and they’ve got lots of great choices.

My daughter and I were celebrating being together, and the cozy atmosphere here was exactly what we were looking for. We started with the pumpkin ravioli as our appetizer. We shared the grilled kale salad and the roasted cauliflower for dinner, and finished with the pumpkin cheesecake and chamomile tea and espresso. The meal was exceptional! Everything was delicious, I had no idea a vegan pumpkin pie could be so good. The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. Our coats were happily checked, we were seated near the front window, and our servers were excellent at explaining everything on the menu. They were attentive without being intrusive. It was a pleasurable experience from start to finish. This is my 3rd time here, and if I lived in NYC it would be my go to restaurant!

This was our last meal after a whirlwind 30 hours in the city. Because we were headed to the train after we had a small suitcase which the host offered to store for us without having to ask. The warm, quiet upstairs room closest to the front of the building was a welcome reprieve after a long, rainy day.

The service was good including being attentive to dietary and allergy considerations. When asked for a gluten-free menu is provided. The seaweed salad was delicious as was the rosemary and lemon vodka cocktail. I ended up taking much of my main meal home as the salad was filling and the portions were generous. The garbanzo cake was a little dry but overall both meals were satisfying and delicious.

I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary, and the whole experience was absolutely outstanding. I normally don't take the time to write reviews for restaurants, but everything about this place was perfect. The service was very attentive. You know its great service when about your glasses are never empty. The wine/ cocktail list was longer than the actual menu with a non-alcoholic section as well. We got the cheese platter as an appetizer, which was lovely. They brought us over addition crackers when they saw we still had some cheese left to chow down on. The entrees are incredibly unique. It's always interesting to see how the vegan version of certain dishes compare to the "real" one. I honestly would say the seitan piccata was better than any chicken piccata I've ever had. We finished everything and even though we were STUFFED we made a little room for dessert, which was to die for. We will most definitely be coming back and continue to recommend this to every family member, friend, stranger, etc. Phenomenal place!

Wonderful restaurant! I’ve visited four times now during trips to New York and I’ve never been disappointed. The food is vegan but meet eaters do not be scared: I am neither vegan nor vegetarian but the food is satisfying and it is complemented by great drink options. The second floor dining area is either in cozy booths or in a sunny space with big windows (there is first floor bar dining as well but I have not tried it). The only reason my review gave the ambiance only four stars is because, during my most recent visit, there was scaffolding outside the windows...Plywood ambiance: not my favorite! One more note: this restaurant is a very easy walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the other museums/attractions in that area as well as the 6 train.

Last minute decision to pop in after visiting the museum, great choice!! The food was wonderful, the cocktails were excellent, and our booth was very comfortable. We ate in the downstairs dining room, the upstairs has more ambiance, make sure to request it. I found the staff a bit cold and stand-offish, my only complaint. All in all, the meal was excellent. If you eat a vegan diet or not, this is a great place for a night out or lunch after the museum.

As a long-time Vegan it has been a dream of mine to eat here and it did not disappoint. I took my family there and they aren't Vegan but love healthy food. We shared the wild mushroom crepe, the kale salad with tempeh, the roasted cauliflower with Zaatar and the kale/quinoa Ceasar. All delicious. Dessert was the cannoli but I was too full so took it home. Can't wait to come back and eat other things. I bought the Candle 79 cookbook to try and recreate some of the amazing dishes. Our waiter was great too.

I was disappointed with my food as it was cold and this wasn’t clear to me from the menu. Pad Thai really is not the kind of meal that tastes good cold. I asked politely if I could order something else (not for free, I was fine with paying for a second dish). The waiter was condescending about my not knowing it would be a cold dish but begrudgingly allowed me to order some steamed dumplings instead. They took a long time to arrive and when they did they were so over cooked I could not pick them up to eat with my fork, they disintegrated in the bowl. The soup they were in had a strange and unpleasant flavour. I did not eat it & we paid & left soon after. I was so hungry that we went to get some french fries at our hotel. The only upside was they didn’t charge me for the cold Pad Thai.

The very best of vegetarian cuisine. Could not possibly have been better. It can be very difficult finding top restaurants that have true vegetarian dishes that can also satisfy meat eaters. This one has only vegetarian, and this meat eater did not miss it in the least. If there were more vegetarian restaurants like this, I would not miss meat at all.
