My friend is vegan... I'm not, so if I say the meal was excellent, it was!
Amazing dinner as usual! Best restaurant in NYC for gourmet vegan food, incredible service and awesome vibe!
Amazing food and service! Prices are on the higher end but the portions are very generous with immense flavor profile! The waiter Steven or Stefan was extremely attentive and helpful, we really enjoyed the evening. 100% recommend for anyone
Postponed valentines day
We enjoyed my birthday lunch on holiday in New York. My mushroom crepe was full of tasty mushrooms and veggies with a creamy drizzled sauce and nice side salad. My non vegan partner enjoyed his beyond meat burger. The fries were yummy. I was treated to a fabulous vanilla ice ‘cream’ with a candle
I have eaten at this restaurant 3 times now and each time I really enjoy it. When you walk in, the aroma is wonderful and enticing. The restaurant is cozy and inviting but not right. I always find the waiters extremely helpful when describing the food for a non-vegan vegetable lover. Everything I have tasted down to the coffee and the espresso martini are delicious! I will go back, often and recommend to anyone that enjoys a wonderful dining experience.
Omggggg if your vegan or non vegan this place is just perfect ! THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!!!!!!! I’m going back again lol . Service is excellent! I never had to wait plus my food came quick . Prices is good .
The food was delicious, the drinks as well and the service accommodating. The first half of our stay we spent in a cozy kind of atmosphere, unfortunately someone decided to turn on some music later on..... We will definitely come back!
My first visit and the food was delicious!
Delicious and VEGAN!
Having moved away from NYC, it's very important to me to enjoy some quality food any time I am back in the City. I started eating vegan 6 months ago and so haute cuisine is now a bit harder to come by...but not at Candle 79! My meal consisted of a stellar rosemary gin cocktail, a dumpling appetizer, mushroom and butternut squash ravioli and asian pear pie and decaf espresso. My 13 year old son had the artichoke appetizer, a mushroom crepe and the apple cranberry pie. While my son's dining etiquette still needs a little work, his appreciation of good food has been and is stellar and we both enjoyed our delicious Candle 79 meal and see it as one of the highlights of our trip!
I must also note that the "creamy" tomato sauce is something Candle 79 has absolutely nailed...do not miss it!
My wife and I are not vegan. We are fasting and wanting to celebrate "valentine's day" with a romantic dinner ; while respecting our fast of meat and fish. The food was AMAZING !!!! I never thought that vegan food could taste so good.
Oh my god, this is the best money ever spent. Seriously if my stomach allowed me to I would’ve simply gone down the whole menu. Everything from the service to the dishes are nothing short of phenomenal.
Delicious vegan food. Wish I could eat there more often but I live far away.
Best vegan restaurant I have been to thus far. Wish there were more locations as i live on Long Island
Excellent choice for a vegan birthday celebration
Always good as usual. Highly recommended The timbale and mezze platter are my favorite as the crepe. Delicious
Food was absolutely delicious and the staff was warm and friendly. Will definitely be returning!
The food here is excellent, always super-fresh and creatively prepared. The place is lovely, too, great ambience. Prices may be a bit high for, well, vegetable products, but everything tastes great. My only complaint is about their drinks. I usually order saké when I am there, as it is an excellent brand and very flavorful. But each time I go there, the glass it is served in has shrunk from the time before. So, over the last three months, the portion served is less than half what I was getting earlier. And saké prices haven't risen so much that this economizing is justified.
So far, my best dining experience in NYC to date. It certainly lives up to its name! Outstanding.
Great place to dine if you like sitting at the counter at a diner. Literally inches from table next to us and the ridiculously loud and finicky patrons.
Loud party of 10 made noise unbearable
Food was okay but bland and some dishes were unrecognizable
Was a very special night out and we were asked to leave by hostess even though it was their slow service that caused the delay..
Surprised they didn’t ask us to take our dessert and cappuccino with us
Exceptional service and food.
Absolutely fabulous! The food, service, atmosphere, it was all fabulous. Very creative vegan dishes. This is one of those restaurants that you can bring your non-vegan friends to and they won’t miss the meat.
Great food! Great service! Great table!
Thanks for helping to make our visit with our friend such a pleasure.
The food was simply awful. My wife's seitan piccata was difficult to cut and was barely lukewarm. My black bean burger was barely warm and gave me cramps afterwards. The taste was, at best, mediocre. The dishes are extremely expensive and we felt thoroughly ripped off. Years ago your food was excellent but something happened. The last few times we ate at Candle 79 the food has not been good. Yesterday, it was awful. We will not be going to your restaurant again and will discourage vegan friends from wasting their money
Excellent . A wonderful restaurant for people who are vegetarian! So many wonderful choices. Very gourmets!!!
Service was rushed and rude. We had a reservation at 5pm and arrived at 4:45p to be denied a seat at the bar to wait and instead told to come back at “5pm sharp.” It’s winter, so just dumb to send guests out into the cold for 15 minutes for some formality instead of showing hospitality and letting them wait somewhere warm. The table was only given to us for exactly 1hour and 45 minutes, for which I was reminded twice not to overstay. It was embarrassing. The host was staring us down at exactly the time she needed the table back. The food, albeit good, was overshadowed by this ridiculous service throughout and several visits by our server to get an order...yet still laced basics like bussing courses when finished. We had high expectations, but were sent off with a final cocktail at the bar to finish our conversation which came out to $20! A manhattan anywhere else is $14 on average. Unacceptable.
A great overall experience. The food was delicious as always and the staff was very attentive and professional
Outstanding but very expensive food; efficient and effective but unsmiling and unfriendly service. Great atmosphere.
Brother in town
My sons birthday , we have been to Candle west side twice and Candle 79 last night and 3 out of 3 OUTSTANDING food weather your vegan or not they make food that tastes and textures almost like meat it amazing just go!!!
Overrated and dated. I was extremely excited to dine here based on the photos online, but when we arrived, I had to check to make sure we were at the right location. Extremely dated space and in need of major renovations! The ceiling leaked on me while we were dining and my sweater and coat were soaked. The food was below average (I’ve been cooking and dining vegan for years. IMO LA has the best vegan dining options. Gracias Madre, Crossroads Kitchen and Cafe Gratitude are amazing!). The staff was very pleasant and accommodating, but we felt so awkward dining with a view of roofing construction, a leaky ceiling, and no music playing in the background, so we felt we had to whisper so everyone wouldn’t hear our conversation.
Food was good but desserts. Nice and quiet ambiance .
Certain appetizers and entrees were a hit like the breaded cauliflower appetizer and Moroccan chickpea cake. Others not so much and needed flavors desperately. Not worth the price.
Such a wonderful experience. Ordered the house made ginger ale (wow!), the enchiladas (they’re raw, and absolutely fantastic), and then the pumpkin cheesecake. Likely one of the best meals I’ve had as a gluten-free/vegan. 10/10 recommend.
The decor was dark and dreary for my esthetic. We dined in a large room upstairs which was loud with large groups at two tables on either side of us . It was just the two of us so we were drowned out. Very disappointed in my experience there.
Dinner with my fully vegan son celebrating
Fantastic food!!! As a French trainer chef, it's hard to find quality vegan upscale food. This restaurant hit all the points!! Will absolutely be back!
Met a friend for dinner here -- food was yummy and interesting.
We both enjoyed our meal there. The food is creatively prepared and delicious!! It was nice to have so many options!
Love this restaurant
