Our experience at Candle 79 was outstanding. The food was delicious, and the waiter was patient with our party’s many questions and requests for suggestions.
Our table was a mix of vegans and non, and everyone was impressed by the meal, the drink selection, and the service.
The cauliflower appetizer was delicious and the enchilada dish is highly recommended.
Especially noteworthy is the staff. We had reservations for 9pm and stayed until 11:30pm. Not once were we made to feel rushed or like we have overstayed our welcome, despite the restaurant closing at 10:30pm (oops, we really didn’t realize!). They stayed attentive to our needs, didn’t clear out our plates mid dining, only interrupted to ask if everything was okay, and asked if we wanted dessert at the end... which we did.
It’s rare not to feel rushed or pressed in NYC, and this was an example of the service that every restraint should strive for.
We will definitely be back. Thank you!
Went for lunch - so many amazing vegan options and our server was so attentive. Will definitely be going back!
Candle is one of the classiest healthiest places to eat in NY. We understand they are getting ready to close at the end of this year, and we are very sad because New York won’t be the same without them!! Please find another location!
Love this restaurant. Sorry it’s closing. Sad
Everything was 5 star. Absolutely perfect.
The best place in NYC
So incredibly sad Candle 79 is closing! I love this food, it's much better than Candle Cafe's food for sure! We will be visiting again before you close, we already got take out last night!
Thanks!
Creative vegetarian. Bring it back! We don't want to lose this option in our neighborhood. Worth a trip.
Beautiful dining experience, environment, and delicious food. A nice fine dining option for those seeking out vegan food, and anyone who just wants a lovely classy dinner. The wine we enjoyed was lovely as well, and our service was exceptional.
Wonderful restaurant. Food was delicious, service and atmosphere was superb. So sorry to hear this location will be closing.
This is our favorite vegan restaurant in the world! So sad they are closing:(
So delicious but upset to learn they are closing due to real estate developers in the neighborhood. Hope they reopen in a new location because the food was amazing and I’m not vegan but thoroughly enjoyed eating vegan
Went for a late dinner for 2 and it was wonderful. Upscale vegan dining usually tends to impress, but this was something else. Every single dish was incredible. I will definitely be back again. Also, the cocktails are unbelievably inventive and taste great.
This is our favorite NYC vegan restaurant. We are so sad to hear that the building has been sold and they will be closing December 31. I would head back to NYC just to have dinner there if possible :(
Our first visit. The food was amazingly tasty. The portions were huge. Lots to take home for tomorrow.
This was my first visit. Unfortunately, I took Candle 79's existence for granted. I thought I would have many more years to eventually dine there. Good and service were fantastic! Thank you! One drawback, as with many upscale establishments, portions were on the small side. Dessert was awesome. I will be sorry to see Candle 79 close. I certainly would have returned. All the best!!!
We cane in post work out with huge appetites so we ordered a lot of food but honestly it was hard to eat this food. I want to like candle 79 so much- i have given it many tries and I will probably be back again just because there aren’t a lot of vegan restaurants in the upper east side, but honestly this food is offensively over priced for what it is. It is extremely sugary and not many healthy options. Vegan food can be so healthy and delicious. I don’t understand this trend of putting loads of sugar and oddly combined spices on vegetables!
The booking was a last minute find, trying to find a good veggie/vegan restaurant. We decided on Candle 79 based on the previous reviews and we certainly weren’t disappointed! The food was fantastic, the waiting staff were attentive, but not pushy and whilst it was busy, it was cramped and crowded like some others. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative veggie/vegan meal!
Mourning the loss of this restaurant
Flew in to eat there before it closes end of the month. Best vegan restaurant!! Will be missed!!😩
Highly recommended!
Amazing, delicious food!! Great wine selection and tasty drinks!
Candle 79 has been my family's go to place for special occasions for years. Birthdays, graduations, Thanksgivings, showing visitors how great and imaginative plant-based meals can be. This time I had
a friend visiting who has celiac disease and I was so pleased to be able to take her to a place where she could get a great meal that suits her diet. I'm crushed that this fabulous place is closing. I hope that it will appear again in a new spot.
Everything at candle is delicious but The prices are ridiculously high!!I've been a vegan for many years so I get it...I know that vegan restaurants are expensive but candle 79 is on another level....My entree was so small and I think my appetizer was bigger than my entree... And my entree was $25.
Yet everything was delicious...That's not the problem.
Friendly weight staff always a pleasant experience.
It's just that the prices are insanely high.
I had and loved the “live” (raw) zucchini enchiladas and the chocolate-peanut butter mousse dessert. Also liked the homemade ginger ale—very gingery! Service was fine and my seat in a corner by the window was cozy.
It is one of my favorite places to eat. The menu is full of good options. The food is flavorful and creative. The service is consistently excellent.
Only our 2nd time here, but loved it, sad to hear that they may not be open after 2019.
Food, service, overall great.
Great restaurant. Sorry to hear they are closing at end of year.
If you must leave your current location please please tell us where you move! Everything was fantastic!
Great place. Shame it is closing.
I would highly recommend it before it closes at the end of the year!
Best vegan food in NYC! Service impeccable. Only problem is the temperature--on a cold day, the downstairs tables are uncomfortably cold.
Great vegan meals and outstanding service. The food was prepared quickly too. It's a great place for a date.
The food is delicious but the prices are way too high considering that it doesn't include any meat, chicken or fish.... We paid $180.00 for exactly 4 dishes and one dessert..... way overpriced !
Friendly service though not very attentive. Food was awesome!
We had a lovely dinner celebrating Thanksgiving and my daughter's birthday. The whole experience was wonderful, including the kindness and attentiveness of the waiting staff, the excellent background music (New Orleans Jazz) and the delicious 4-course meal. The wine-meal pairings were also excellent. We were seven people and one of us has celiac disease. The fact that gluten-free options were included in the main menu made everyone feel welcome.
Great food, space was a little tight.
Thanksgiving
The floor on the second floor was slope and it made us dizzy then we were moved to the first floor it was very hot and not enough air.
The salads were Nothing special, the first course was very good.
Best vegetarian restaurant we visited in NYC! Innovative and delicious!
The almond cheese (and everything else) was amazing....truly delicious and unlike any vegan cheese I’ve ever had. I would return to this restaurant again and again.
