Cancun Ratings and Reviews
Picked this place because of the Happy Hour drinks specials. Could not get the Happy Hour specials at the table. Margaritas were over double the price at a table than the bar. It was extremely loud. Food was edible, but nothing special. Honestly, Chipotle has better Mexican food. Would only come back if it was to just go to the bar for $5 margaritas during Happy Hour.
We went in after a Broadway show just because it was really close to the theatre , for an early dinner at about 5 PM . The place was almost empty when we've got there but getting busier towards the end of our meal . The food was OK , but nothing to write home about it ( compared to other Mexican restaurants that I've visited in the City ) . Not so cheap for what it was . The place was very cold and drafty , it seemed that the wind was blowing every time someone was opening the front door ( and we weren't even seated by the door , but quite in the back , by the wall !! ) . I saw some other customer ( a Bachelorette party ! ) even keeping the coats on during dinner ! I won't visit this place again .
We had previously eaten twice in Cancun restaurant and it was always a good experience. We decided to bring our visiting family to eat some good mexican food. The waiter immediately saw that we were not american (although I live in NYC) and did not offer tap water, only bottled water (that will cost us $9 per bottle later) until I realized what he was trying to do (take advantage of tourist people). On top of that, he brought some guacamole (which we though was complementary and ended up not being the case) to even take more advantage of us. We had the lunch menu in which complimentary sangria is always offered but he never offer it. Thanks God the food was good because the service (I will say it in spanish, so the waiter will understand):DEJA MUCHO QUE DESEAR.
Cancun's food was good , but a little pricey. We are from out of town and are used to Mexican restaurants having free chips and salsa and free refills on soft drinks. This is not the case at Cancun and we felt a little nickel and dimed throughout the meal. The noise level was extremely loud.
A group of us, seven people who use to work together, always like to get to gete once a year to celebrate our birthdays. We remembered Cancun's. We enjoyed the guacole and chips. We ordered both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks such as coconut and mango margarita and a strawberry margarita mix with no alcohol. The tradition Mexican food was good such as tacos, beef chimichanga, carne asado (marinated steak), rice and beans and tostones. Some of us were watching our weight so the restauranted accomodated with 2 people wanted grill salmon. They prepared it with a garlic sauce. The side dish that comes with they meal differ. I had the carne asado and chose the tostones. They were fried just right and the steak was huge. The other person got the side of black beans and rice. One other person got the red beans and rice and that was good too.
The décor of the restaurant was nice. We had a big round table so the seven of us could here each other talk. We did not have room for the desserts however, I had gone to Cancun's for lunch and was able to fit in a dessert. The brownie dessert was very delicious. And my lunch special of chicken chimichanga was really big and covered with melted cheese and sauce.
The service was great. It was a friendly staff that answered any questions we had. They keep refilling our water which was terrific. Lastly, we wanted a group photo to remember our evening and our waiter obliged. I would recommend Cancun's for any celebration or lunch if you are in the area.
I have been to this restaurant several times before, however, never on Cinco De Mayo. First off when we arrived the waiter told us there was a 45 minute to 1 hour time limit for us to eat. This was not told to me when the restaurant called to confirm the reservation. Secondly for us to eat for 45 minute to 1 hour the service was not up to par. I had to call the waiter several times to come over to attend to us. In the end I even had to ask for the check, which when we received it had an 18% gratuity per person and we were only 2 people. Now I understand having automatic gratuity for a holiday event, however, per person is outrageous and also this was not told to me when the reservation is confirmed. I feel the restaurant should inform thier dinners of this information and give them options. We had not choice but to comply as we had already eaten.
We arrived early for our reservation, so we had a drink at the bar at Happy Hour. When it was time to eat we were not allowed to bring our Happy Hour drinks into the dining room. Seemed odd ... Our meal was served promptly and was presented well. My friend's meal was an enchilada which she said was excellent. My taco salad with chicken was good. The fresh guacamole was mostly chunks of avocado with little else to flavor it. The salsa was quite hot. Overall a good meal, but not a great one.
Wanted something different before heading to Lincoln Center This touristy restaurant was just that - a place for out of towners & kids. Not a restaurant for locals. The chips were stale the guacamole dull & the main courses pretty bland. It was a very disappointing experience.
Cancun restaurant was delicious.
Their guacamole is one of the best I ate and their mojitos taste as the ones you would find in South America or Spain!
The waiters were kind and helped us with the menu since you have lots of choices.
We took some tacos and the portions were huge.
I will definitely go back to this place
The quality of the food and the service didn't merit a return visit. We waited 45 minutes for our entrees after paying for our chips (seemed from a bag) and salsa (which actually was good). They refill soft and charge you for your second serving. Overall not impressed.
I definitely appreciated the jumbo sized margaritas although i was disappointed in the size of the meals. For the price, I was expecting more food like I typically receive at Mexican restaurants. It was my birthday and they brought out a brownie with a giant sparkler on top which was fun. Plus, they plopped a huge sombrero on my head! Good location.
Update from my previous visit. Everything was back to delicious. Ordered the same thing, but this time, as opposed to my last visit, my dish was excellent. Meat wan't dry and salty. Chips were fresh, and love those little tostadas. I will continue to visit Cancun!
Pro- we were seated immediately.
Cons- never received a drink menu, several menu items were not as described: queso fundido was different than I've ever had it, chimichanga had tomatoes and I specifically asked the waitress if there were any and I was told no which is why I ordered it, steak burrito had ground beef instead. Charged for a refill that was done without asking.
Would not recommend the restaurant.
Our server seemed to forget about us during the meal. She never came back to check on us. We finally flagged down a bus boy and asked for our check. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting for our check. We finally paid and had to run to our show. If you want to know what it feels like to not be valued as a customer this is the restaurant for you.
Found on Open Table after arriving in NYC. It was close to my hotel and prices we're reasonable. It was a but loud but the food was very, very good and the presentation was better than the usual casual Mexican restaurant. Great margaritas and the guacamole was delish!
