Very cool ambiance. The waiter we had was awesome. He had great suggestions, and was very attentive. The food arrived quickly, and they offer a great variety to please those who love sushi, as well as those who prefer heartier options!
Service was bad and overall expierence was bad. Took loog time to order and even longer to recieve food.
Waiter was more interested in the sports on the tv then waiting on us
The sashimi and rolls were excellent. We were there on a Sunday night, things seemed a little less lively than I expected. I could see the location being a nice spot as you roll off the beach and stumble into great sushi and a really cool bar with crazy decor. Could have had more sake options.
One of my favorite places. I visit often and my favorite server, Solomon, always takes great care of my party.
Food was okay, but way overpriced for the quality and the portions. Drinks were weak. Waiter was nice but acted bored. Not worth it, especially it was for Father's Day. Next year it's back to El Torito!
My first time eating sushi, I was pleasantly surprised to find I like it! Short walk to Venice beach and public parking area.
Good times. Waiter was kind of a grouch with no petsonality
The Canal Club was a good, casual place. A little away from heavily trafficked areas. Nothing particularly exceptional, but not a disappointment either.
We went to the Canal Club for Mother's Day. My husband does not like sushi but I do so the restaurant worked for both of us. I had an incredible sashimi plate and my husband had fajitas and eggs and we recommend both. It was quiet for a holiday - mostly because you don't think of it as a Mother's Day outing.
The sangria was not good and the saki bombs didn't make sense. Happy hour pricing was okay, but the sushi was underwhelming. Our server was not very personable and didn't really seem to know much about the drinks. Would not go again.
The drinks : The drinks and ambiance were really delicious and cool
The Service: Started out attentive but as soon as the order was put in we didn't see our waiter unless we flagged him down. We asked other waiters occasionally to get things we needed since no one checked in on us. We didn't get waters until halfway through our meal despite asking for them first thing upon seating. We decided not to order second drinks based on how long it took to get served. The restaurant wasn't even busy... there were only 2 small other tables in our section.
The food: We ordered chicken tacos, but they were not tacos. It was basically half a chicken cut up with mostly bone and tortillas on the side. It was very dry on top of that.
The perfect place for a first date!
Could not have been happier. This was just a friends get together but it was Valentine's Day so it was tricky to find the right spot. I wanted good food, not too expensive and in a casual setting and not a crazy holiday crowd. I wanted some Asian style food but not limited to that. And yet I still wanted a sense of occasion. Canal Club delivered on all fronts! The food was absolutely fabulous, the menu a sort of Japanese/Mexican/American smash up that works. I cannot say enough about the kitchen here. This may be a cool, historic bar in Venice Beach but someone here takes their kitchen very seriously and without any pretensions. AND, since we were early (6:00). we beat the "happening" crowd and had a lovely dinner in a booth where we could actually talk! Particulars: Appetizers- grape & brie quesadilla fab as advertised, special Valentine's Day sushi roll (shrimp & strawberry), mixed platter of skewers--all great. Entrees-2 salmon and one steak all top shelf-salmon delicious with miso glaze and roasted carrots and the steak was one of the tenderest and butteriest ever. A shared chocolate lava cake dessert finished us off delightedly. Oh, and the white sangria was delicious too! It ended up not being the cheapest night out because we ended up ordering from the top of the menu. There are a lot of lesser priced options as well as what we ordered and given the quality of what we had I'll bet they are all great. So, a casual yet classy, cool vibe spot with lots of character that everyone can enjoy. Go late if you want the scene but don't be afraid to go early to enjoy the place in a calmer fashion. It works!
My husband brought me to Canal Club almost 8 years ago & we keep going back. We were there celebrating his birthday this time & we still love it every time!!! Always brings back memories of our dating days!!! 😍💑❤💏💘💋
It took a ridiculous amount of time to get out sushi. It was unbareable almost.
Wayyyyyy too loud and service was very poor despite the restaurant being almost empty
Well this certainly turned out to be a "quick bite" and "great value".... canal club accepted our booking, sent us a charming confirmation email saying how much they were looking forward to our visit, then, after we trekked one mile from our accommodation on the dark, were... shut. So we were there just one moment and unable to spend a cent.
Disgusted that they had not blocked out their online reservations on a day they clearly planned to be closed.
And now they ask for feedback on our experience! The phrase starting with p*ss up and ending with brewery, springs to mind.
Definitely hit this place up for Happy Hour and bring the kids! They are super family friendly, have delicious cocktails and yummy sushi! My favs: Brie and grape quesadilla, crunchy rice spicy tuna roll (exact name?), California Rolls, tacos, pork ribs!
I had forgotten about Canal Club - visited for Happy Hour, and have been back for dinner. Their staff is great, from the host to Solomon who took care of our table. Will be back. The fried calamari is FABULOUS. And so is the healthy food!! Ginger margaritas and martinis are super.
The atmosphere and service were pretty good. The food was only OK. The sushi did not taste fresh.
