Campo - Reno
Terrific downtown location across from the theatre attracts local crowd and tourists alike. Tasty homemade pasta dishes, unique dinner entree’s, a very good meatless burger and a great Happy Hour drink menu to boot. Highly recommend.
Overpriced. Waited an hour for appetizers and one pizza.
We love going to Campo (downtown)! The food is always exceptional and the ambience is great.
Excellent food! Service isn’t the best...
What a nice farm-to-fork restaurant outside of a casino but not far from the action! Sage was a great server with excellent suggestions and command of her bar and food menu. She guided us thru the choices and selections based on our tastes and preferences while also highlighting the unique and high-quality offerings at Campo. The tomahawk pork chop was a winner as was the off-the-menu dark draft beer selection! Our party of 5 were all satisfied but wished we had room for dessert.... next time.
The food was amazing!!! Service was not that great. Both compos lack on their service!
Anthony is awesome!!
We usually love dining at Campo with our whole family. But tonight was really off. We were seated quickly with our reservation in the back room. The back room does not have good ambiance to start off with and we were placed in the middle of the room at a round table. Our server took our order in a timely manner but we could not hear what she was saying so we basically had to guess about the special fish and soup. My wine and my husbands wine were both the house cabernet. His pour was a decent size mine was half. I didn't see our server for about 15 mins so I just drank it. We were served our appetizer and salad on time but our dinner came out 35 minutes after our soup and salad was served. The special fish was horrible. The fish was salty and the mush underneath it was overcooked. My sons gnocchi tasted so bad no one at the table could take more than one bite and it was served cold. My daughter got her meal 5-7 minutes after the rest of us had ours. Her meatballs were inedible. The red sauce was bitter - like it had gone bad. We had to ask twice for someone to check on our meal and once we got the disappointing dishes we never saw anyone again until check time.
Went for lunch mid-week. Service was very friendly, nice space, good location ( though , unless you park in the garage, good luck finding street parking w/i 5 block radius). Good variety on menu, prices are reasonable...but the food is just not worth going there. I had the chicken sandwich but it was slathered in pesto. I scraped some off, then it was fine. Had the crispy polenta instead of fries and they were ok. My friend had the pasta carbonara, it was somewhat bland. The dessert...my friend had the tiramisu and it was ok. I had the butterscotch pudding and it was so bad I left more than half of it. If they could fix the food end of the restaurant this place would be a neighborhood gem.
Ggreat service, good food, a little noisy. Doesn't seem like fine dining as far as setting and ambience. A good bar setting kind of restaurant.
The food is over rated ... very average
Your best bet is just a Pizza, and/or Salad and beer (good beer options)
We tried the pork platter ... $30 worth it was not! a half sausage!, a couple of 'thin' slices of not so special pork and a piece of pork belly. Ridiculous price. Not what you expect when you order a platter.
Kale salad was good. Pizza good.
Super friendly and attentive. Food was fantastic
We'd been here before and we expected the same excellent food and service. This time, Campo missed the mark. The service was inattentive and the food was mediocre. The tomahawk pork chop, billed at 18 oz. was more like 10 oz. of bone and 2 oz. of fat. It, like the halibut my wife ordered, was way over salted. The manager quickly apologized and removed it from the bill, but soon after our server seemed to lose interest in our table and was infrequently seen after that.
Food was very good. However, it took a long time before our order was taken and then about 45 minutes for our food to come out.
great service, great food & great outdoor seating area made a get together with friends easy & enjoyable!
Great food, great drinks and friendly staff! Overall a great experience, we will be back
The food and atmosphere were both excellent, as in the past. We're big fans of the menu and the downtown river vibe that Campo exudes.
What a letdown for us and our guests. It started out well with good service and the servers were accommodating to allow us to sit next to the railing by the river, so we waited for them to clear and set a table that had freed up as we had arrived. We chose the Crispy Polenta for an appetizer and that turned out well. Unfortunately, when we ordered our entrees everything failed. Our guests ordered a V.P.N. Margherita pizza that was not completely cooked and soggy in the center, my wife's cioppino del mar was (according to her) was delicious, however an hour later she was getting itchy and two hours later she had broken out in hives and had to take a couple Benadryl to abate her reaction to what had to be some old or spoiled shrimp. Since we both had Salmon we cooked from Costco the night before without any such reaction to seafood we know it wasn't her simply being 'sensitive' to seafood. For me it was an unbelievably simple order that was completely botched. I ordered their burger with fried mushrooms and the only part cooked properly were the mushrooms. I ordered the burger cooked medium-well (since it's not a good idea to eat hamburger undercooked) and what arrived was a burger cooked rare to medium-rare. I informed the waitress when she came by to check on us and she offered to send it back, but I told her no - it would be fine. I didn't want to send it back since it's unclear what will happen to my food when it gets sent back to the cook and if the cook couldn't cook something as simple as a hamburger patty correctly the first time I had no confidence they could do it correctly a second time. The server had the manager remove it from our bill, which was nice and appropriate, but there simply were way too many problems with our meal (and the fact we were entertaining out-of-town guests here) that we would not recommend this place and have no reason to return. Eat here at your own risk.
Poor service. Our luck we sat at table next to the owner who garnered all of the attention. Poor service model. Won’t go back of recommend.
When visiting our family in Reno we usually have a meal at Campo. In the nice weather it is really fun to sit outside by the river. We have recommended Campo to people who are going to Reno.
It was ok.. nothing at all like the “farm to table” they tout. Perhaps its that I am spoiled where I live with lots of delicious cuisine. It was highly rated in yelp. Hmmm. Pretty standard fare in my opinion.
Came in on a Monday and they were out of the short rib ravioli and also the fettuccine. Ordered the all meat pizza and it was OK—very greasy. Service and cocktails were GREAT!!
Service was abysmal. Hosted seated us promptly but that’s where the good service ended. We were not acknowledged by a waiter although they were serving tables all around us. I had to go back to the hostess to ask for a waiter to come to our table. It was easily 40 minutes before someone took a drink and appetizer order. We must have been seated between two zones in no waiters land because we ultimately had three servers bringing us our meal in a hodgepodge and ridiculously slow manner. At the end I practically had to beg for the check.
The food was fine. Fancy cocktails were not good. Seems the ingredients did not blend well together. Location was great out on patio overlooking the river.
Delicious pizza al fresco with beautiful river view
Went for a business dinner. No one took our order for a good hour +. Food took quite a while to come out as well
Not a bad experience, but not what we’ve experienced in the past. Service was decent, food was definitely good but not outstanding as the bill should reflect. $185 dinner for 2 with 1 $45 bottle of wine, no dessert.
campos was great, good food, service but way way to load. i have a noise app that registered it as very loud unhealthy for hearing and possible damaging. also open table once again failed to have my reservations as at campos. got
there and they had no record. thanks for nothing open table.
There was a special event going on outdoors( some sort of top chef competition) and it sounded like we were dining in the midst of a festival. And we were sitting in a booth mid- restaurant!
The meal was mediocre; my husband’s meatballs were bland and lifeless. My shrimp seemed old as some definitely had a fishy smell and were tough to the chew (overcooked).
The sun choke soup (soup of the day) was the best part of the meal, and was so delicious that if it were offered as a regular menu item, we would return for that alone!
Fantastic meal--scallops and mushrooms were incredible. Restaurant needed more servers, as service was friendly and knowledgable but slow. Right off the Truckee River in the River District.
This was our third time eating at Campo and we aren't even from Reno! We come to stay the night and eat here. A great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary! The food and drinks are worth the drive/price.
Had dinner as a party of 3 this past weekend. The location of the restaurant is great right along the river in downtown Reno. I had eaten there before several years ago and had a great meal and I wanted to return since we were in town. Unfortunately it was not nearly as good. Service was very poor. The waiter took our order of food and drinks, brought out the drinks and pretty much disappeared until well after we had be served our food. We asked the food runner to ask our waiter for another round of drinks (would be our second round) as he was delivering the food. 10 minutes later, the waiter finally checked up on us and had not been given the message about the drinks. Too bad, as our bill would have been higher as two of our party likes their Saturday night cocktails and would have had more! Food was either just OK or inedible. Meatball appetizer was fine, tasty. But then dinner arrived...Scallop special was ok, but scallops were gritty. Chicken dish was very dry and served without the bacon marmalade that was promised on the menu. The side veg and potatoes on both dishes was fine. Last and certainly the worst was my carbonara pasta. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce wasn’t sauce at all, it was more like paste. Very little flavor. I ate about two bites and just gave up. And of course since our waiter really didn’t have any time for service I opted not to get into it. He didn’t even ask if there was anything wrong when he collected the plates and there was barely anything eaten on the pasta and chicken dishes...Always a dissapointment when you take friend out to dinner based on a great past experience and it turns out to be a real blah.
Depends really. If you're young and healthy--great. If you are a senior, has it's challenges.
Parking was a nightmare.
Very nice hostess.
Ok wait staff.
Food--mixed here--never seen such a small serving of just plain ol' spaghetti in my life! TINY!
Cioppino was OVER THE TOP FAB!!!
A bit pricey but service and food was excellent. Special Occasions.
The food took way too long. Our server was great, and the food was delicious when it arrived (except that the mushrooms were cold and needed to be warmed up). But it took over an hour to get our food ...
First of all, the prices were a bit spendy for what you got.
The main issue was that we were stuck in a dark booth next to a drawn curtain that separated us from the rest of the restaurant. We couldn't see anything over the booth and the place we could look out was the curtain - which blocked a nice part of the restaurant with windows that would have lightened things up quite a bit.
I mentioned the issue of the curtain to staff - who seemed very anxious for me to repeat this complaint to management... as they hated the "new policy" as well.
Lift the curtain and quit hiding and ignoring people in booths.
Food and service were really good but everything is overpriced
Great food and service. The dessert wasn't as good as before, but overall still a great place to dine.
The service was reasonable but the food took rather a long time to arrive. An hour to get a pizza when the restaurant was only 1/3 full is not good. But the pizza tasted fine. Biggest gripe was the price. Really overpriced for what it is, and in Reno, hardly Chicago or San Francisco.
This experience was a mixed bag. Most of the ingredients were fresh and tasty, but unfortunately they were combined or prepared poorly, with the exception of the focaccia bread, which was about as dry as a crouton. They had a barramundi fish on special, which is my favorite all time fish, but it was salted so much it made me suspicious that it might not be too fresh. The balance of proportions on the plate was quite off. It looked like they had forgotten to add some elements to the dish before the kitchen sent it out.
I didn't notice on the appetizer list that the castelvetrano olives were to be served warm, as in heated-on-the-stove warm, rather than room-temperature warm. This was tragic, as castelvetranos are my favorite olives but they were quite unappetizing when heated with cherry tomatoes. They had a bit of a mushy texture and lost all their flavor after being cooked on the stove. We also ordered the fries, which were also not prepared properly. I suspect the frying oil was too cold, as they were quite mushy as well.
We sat near the kitchen and could see the waitstaff passing by us on their way to other tables and pretty much everyone made a point of not making eye contact and avoiding us. Our waitress didn't check on us nearly often enough, which usually isn't a problem, until it is. One of the bus people cleared a dish from our table without asking and by the time we realized it, our server was nowhere to be found to mention that some of our food was taken from us until almost the end of the meal.
I may give this place a second try, but I'll be sure to read the menu much more closely and hope to be seated in a section with more attentive service. For the price paid, this restaurant did not even come close to meeting expectations.
