Campo - Mammoth Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations thanks to Open Table, so we were seated pretty quickly. But they didn’t assign us a server for 30 minutes after I asked the bartenders if I could place my order with them. Unfortunately, the server still acted like we didn’t exist. Food was overly priced and greasy. Not a good experience.
We ate here last year and loved it. We were looking forward to our 3 nights of reservations at Campo this week. We asked if they had new owners since it was much different than last time. This is a funny restaurant. Some of the staff act as if you are lucky to eat at Campo. A bit of a snootiness if you dare ask the host/hostess a question. Very unimpressed. Food was no longer available after we reviewed menu. They ran out of the chicken dish,” which no one bothered to tell us. main entrees came out before appetizers. Appetizers were cancelled because the cooks did not prepare, daughters pasta not fully cooked “noodles hard and chewy. “ Food came to table with no available silverware. Salad came out after entrees. We had to wait to eat food so they could clean silverware. Daughters beet salad was not prepared as last year and new version is awful. The $100.00 bill was not worth it. Had a much better pizza and salad at Z pizza for a fraction of the price. Cancelled reservations for the other two nights. Husband saw manager dismiss our waiter who told her that we did not like the beet salad. This was my daughters dinner as she waited patiently while everyone else received their dinner. Who is running this frat house? Maybe it was an off night but we are no longer interested in going back to Campo.
I can honestly say this was the most poorly run restaurant or business I have ever been to. A total train wreck. Our waitress was great! We felt so sorry for her, it seemed like she was the only one taking orders for the whole restaurant. No one would help her, and there seemed to be plenty of servers and workers milling around. Every table around us was having issues. It was as if the whole staff wanted the waitress to fail. From the start, reservations were at 7:30 we weren’t seated until 8:15. We had to wait an additional 15 minutes at our table just for menus . Appetizers took forever to come out and when they did we told the server we needed utensils. He never returned. Our waitress came over to check on us maybe 15-20 minutes after our apps were served and noticed we hadn’t started eating because we didn’t have forks. She ran to get us some and as soon as we started to take a bite of our appetizers they brought out our entrees. My husband and I ordered the same pasta and mine was so dried out and terrible it was almost hard from sitting under the heat lamp for so long. It was totally different than my husbands. My son ordered a pizza that never came and when we told a server he said he would check but never came back, when our waitress checked on us again we told her. Sge said they hadn’t made one so they were making us a fresh one. Two seconds later a server came out with one? The first drink I ordered was delicious and spicy, when I ordered a second it came out totally different . I told the waitress and she asked bartender to make another but he poured the drink in a different glass and gave it to us? Literally from start to finish it never got better. We really liked some of the dishes but the experience was so bad it made everything bad. I know every person around us at every table was dissatisfied. I kept expecting management to come over to our table or any table but they never did. It was appalling, and felt unbelievable to be so bad!!!
The restaurant did not have a reservation they gave us a seat next to the bathroom and the floors and seats were filthy
Service was poor the food was cold and greasy and they over charged me $47 and later fixed it .
Used to be good has gone downhill
This is my 3rd experience at Campo, so I feel like I now have enough visits under my belt to properly review. Sadly, this is one of my least favorite restaurants in Mammoth. The food has generally been bland every time, even when I try to order something that looks like it might be flavorful. The kids spaghetti always has almost no Marinara sauce. The service is adequate, has been hit and miss. For this, the price is on the higher side. Nothing horrible, but I won’t be coming back as there has been nothing to draw me in either.
Our waiter was really bad. He was very inattentive. We placed our order including a bottle of wine that sat at the bar for twenty minutes. When our food was delivered to our table (by someone other than our waiter), we had to ask for the wine which was then delivered unopened. The waiter never came to check on us. He brought the check. After giving him our credit card, he disappeared for a while. When he returned, he brought us the original check without our credit card! The food was mostly average with the pasta dish being almost inedible.
This was our favorite spot a couple of years ago. We come every year and make sure to eat here once or twice each trip. This year service was very bad. The Brussels and cauliflower apps were good but the risotto and pasta dishes were bland. It’s gone down hill. Next year we’ll rethink a visit here.
I love Campo. Love their food mostly. For some reason they hardly ever seem to provide good service. I don't understand why 53, which is also part of Mammoth Mountain and right next to it, can get it right, while Campo can't get service right.
Had a reservation for 6:30 and had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. One of the chairs was very wet, so we asked if it was okay for them to change to the one next to it. The hostess said yes. However, the table had not been cleaned. There were pieces of pizza underneath the table, when I saw it, I looked at the hostess. She saw my look and asked me if I wanted it clean. Did she really have to ask? She went ahead and cleaned it.
After we sat down everything was fine, except for the timing of the food. Ordered appetizers and didn't order the main plates right away, partly in hopes that the mains wouldn't show up at the same time as the appetizers. Nope, the mains followed one of the appetizers by a minute or two of difference. It seems to me that maybe they needed the table for the next reservation so they were trying to rush us. Maybe not, in any case, I like to take my time to enjoy their food, which as I said, I really enjoy.
Our server was nice. The food was great, especially the pappardelle and the caramel budino.
I mostly care about the food, I just wish the service was on pair with the prices. It would also be nice if the hosts didn't have a Beverly Hills attitude.
Overall, I'd give this place a thumbs up. They skimp on the ingredients. For example, our pizza came with literally 4 small pieces of salami on it so in essence, we ate a cheese pizza and our spaghetti with meatball came with very few meatballs. However, the prices are on the lower side and so one can't really complain. It's great for groups since they have a large menu and the noise level is pretty rambunctious. The server was extremely accomodating with our requests so we gave her a fat tip. I'd definitely go back.
We were greeted by a very friendly staff and they made accommodations for our two boys (3 & 5) by seating is at. 1/2 banquette table. They had coloring books - yes, a multi-page book! - and crayons. My wife and I went for the “Date Night” menu, salad, pizza, pasta, and dessert. Adding in a glass of wine the entire meal was very reasonable for a quality place/food.
Service very friendly .... food was horrible... pasta wasn’t cooked ..... sauce tasted like it was out of a can! Wife orderes short ribs.... ribs good.... veggie was barley warm... sent it back.. 10 minutes later they returned... still cold. Waiter made adjustment on bill but !
Pizzas are very good but other entrees and starters were overly salted. Overpriced Burger had some strange bacon marmalade sauce with two slices of Gouda unmelted. Just bad. Meat lettuce n bun were good. lol. Fries overly seasoned. Kale salad with gooey egg was gross. Bland dressing. Fried calamari was good but again why so salty?
Made a reservation in advance, arrived and it was crowded; host said "hold on, someone's trying to sit at your table". When he came back we followed him to the worst table in the restaurant; right next to the bathroom with traffic in and out, and the door slamming every 40 seconds, big cans of bulk food on the shelf behind us, and some large canisters of propane or hazardous material? Booth had salad and oily dressing on the fabric bench from previous diners. Pasta was undercooked, thick and doughy, cauliflower burnt and floating in oil. Waitress was nice, wine was ok. Two people = $80. Save your money, go elsewhere.
As a local resident of Mammoth Lakes, I have dinner at Campo on a frequent basis as they are one of the few options for real Italian Food (vs. a pizza joint). Their food is unique and handmade. Their Pizzas are wood fired and delicious. I'm a pasta guy, so this is a good option.
Fabulous beet salad and halibut risotto had an amazing blend of flavors.
At first the service was slow and then the food came out too fast. We were able to send the entree back until we were ready. After that things went well. The server understood the way we wanted to eat. She was great. The halibut risotto was incredible. The best ever.
Server was very friendly, but our drink orders arrived after the first course was delivered, even though we place it first. Beet salad is usually delicious, but the prep kitchen did not thaw the beets before plating the salad, resulting in unedable frozen beets, otherwise the rest of the meal was outstanding
We've ate at Campos several times. The only reason we choose this restaurant is because of the outdoor seating near the stage. The service has never been great. The food is okay, pricey though. We ordered the cannoli dessert and it was quite small yet a large price at $12. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant other than being able to enjoy the music in the village from your table.
We go to Campo every time we go to Mammoth. There are 4 things that are always consistent...2 are positive and 2 are negative.
1. The food is always great.
2. The waiters/waitresses are always great.
1. The women they hire to work the reception desk are ALWAYS HORRIBLE. Zero personality mixed with attitude mixed with complete lack of appreciation for the customers. These are the people who are responsible for forming the guest's first impression of the restaurant. As I stated above, we've always been happy with the food and waiters and waitresses. So we tolerate the unpleasant greeting that we've sadly become accustomed to. But a first time visitor might be turned off enough by the hostess to not bother giving the restaurant a try.
2.Although I appreciate them trying to offer a seasonal menu, they seem to constantly take dishes off the menu that we've come to enjoy.
We reserved a table. Upon arrival the hostess wants to seat us at a high table, we said no. We wanted a regular table or booth. She said those were reserved? So our reservation didn't count? The place was pretty empty at 6:15. So since we could not have any of the other tables or booths, we chose to dine somewhere else across the street. Friendly hostess and staff and had a great meal.
Planned a trip to Mammoth with my boyfriend, for my birthday. We booked reservations at Campo a few days before the reservation. The night of our reservation we walk over to the restaurant, excited to celebrate and splurge, to find out the entire restaurant is closed down for the day.... We couldn't even get a phone call to let us know they wouldn't be able to accommodate us? Terrible terrible terrible...
Total disconnect between OpenTable and the Restaurant. We made reservations went to the restaurant but it was closed due to a malfunction in their kitchen. Optimal would have been that the restaurant had let OpenTable know. And if they had let OpenTable know (assuming but guessing did not happen), then Open Table should have let me know. Both restaurants and OpenTable can be fairly pushy about no shows. Not sure how they are when the restaurant is a no show.
Food was pretty good, but I would rate the service as only fair. We sat for a long time before anyone even came by the table. Once we ordered they just plopped everything on the table at one, appetizer, salads, and main dishes. Overall, they seemed completely indifferent and the place was not busy at all. Booked it on open table and they did not tell open table that we had come in for the reservation, so had to reply to open table to tell them we had. This was consistent with the rest of our experience here.
