Camp Verde General Store and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
From the moment we reserved till the moment we left the restaurant, the service was impeccable, polite and professional. The hostess Sally called the day before to reconfirm our reservation, on the reservation date, we were running a little late, we called and the informed us that our table was ready and they were waiting for us. Our server, Maria de la Luz, was professional, polite and with a beautiful smile from the heart, showing us she was happy to attend to us as her guests. The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the desert, we ordered the 3 cheese queso and the fried pickles, both were perfect, as entrees we ordered the Texas bbq burger, the roast beef melt, turkey sandwich and pulled pork.... all sandwiches were amazing, but the cherry on the cake was the desert, we ordered the apple basket... it's an apple crumble with a huge home made ball of vanilla ice cream, the filling was bubbling hot, not too sweet, and a perfect balance of cinnamon and spices.
We ordered the pork chop special. We got the last two before they sold out. Our waiter Trip told us about the special and it sounded good. The pork chop was cooked with a sear and was topped with onions. The meat was very flavorful and moist. This was probably the best meal we’ve ever had at Camp Verde. The chef did an outstanding job. At the end of the meal we shared a banana split and it was hands down the best one we’ve ever eaten anywhere.
We came from San Antonio and were delighted to see the beautiful scenic drive off Hwy 16 through Bandera, no billboards, etc. The gift shop was fun, so much to look at but many items were rather expensive. The food was excellent. Very important is it wasn't noisy and we could have a delightful conversation. I will recommend the experience to others. Thank you for such a fun day.
The menu for lunch was pretty ordinary. I had a chicken sandwich which was well-made, and large enough to take half home. I enjoy salad, but the dressing was not to my taste, so I left much of it. Hubby relished half of his sausage sandwich, reserving the remainder also. They made a nice evening snack. We declined dessert, though that was hard. They looked elegant.
We live in the Hill Country, and my wife and I love finding places like this. First thing we said after lunch was, "How did we not know about this place?" I am a self professed foodie, and I would say that the quality in preparation of the food was spot on along with the flavors. More of a down home menu than upscale, but I look for quality and they provided an excellent product. It is winter and so did not sit outside, but it is obvious the grounds are well kept and are beautiful. Someone mentioned their soup on another review and I will too. I had the tortilla soup and it was awesome. Will be back.
The lunch was not up to its usual standard. The fried chicken breast tasted like big box store frozen chicken tenders, the chopped steaks were tough. The one desert we wanted, the apple baskets, were sold out before we could order them. The service was excellent, lots of ice tea refills and frequent checks to make sure we had everything we needed.
The store was full of wonderful items from stocking stuffers to Christmas ornaments and kitchen knicknacks. The shop associates were attentive, pleasant, and helpful.
Overall we enjoyed our annual visit to Camp Verde and will go again for a nice afternoon out. Would like to see the food go back to its previous high quality standard, the servings are very generous for the price but would be willing to pay extra for a little better quality serving.
I love to take visitors here. The story of the camels, the shopping, the restaurant are all worth the trip. Unique place. It is a favorite for our family get together the week of thanksgiving. Neighborhood friends love this lunch spot when we get together! The employees are always helpful and professional.
We had a lovely quiet table near a window and had a very pleasant lunch. The staff was especially friendly and attentive and refilled cups and glasses during the meal. There was an excellent variety of luncheon items and we contemplated ordering an entree to take home. It was well worth the drive.
Always enjoy here. There was a change at the reception desk so greeting was not as friendly as previously. Would definitely prefer the previous friendly greeter.
Food was good, didn't seem quite spot on this day. One of our favorite places to go when out for
a drive in the country. Would recommend.
The whole experience was very enjoyable. We arrived a half hour early and were seated immediately. Our waiter, Trip, was very personable. Our friends with us were very pleased with a waiter who could make you feel right at home. The meals were delicious and the wait time for the meals was no wait time at all. The quantities of the meals were very adequate. My wife and I split the peach cobbler and ice cream dessert. Delicious!! The price for the experience was an exceptional value. We will certainly come back. Keep up the good work.
We were called to our table before our reservation time. Good thing we had reservations since the restaurant was near capacity. The waitress came right to our table and welcomed us and asked if this was our first time there. We had been eating there before there was a new main dining room. Food was great and tasted fresh. Our tea and water was being filled without us even asking. We were checked on several time to see how the food was and if we needed anything. After we ate all we could, we saw that there was a variety of milkshakes on the dessert menu. If you haven't tried their milkshakes you are missing out. Yummy! We shall return again and again. Very friendly and excellent food!
