Calzone's Pizza Cucina Ratings and Reviews
One of the best meals I have had in awhile. We had pizza...excellent; lasagna....excellent; mushroom ravioli...excellent; jalapeño meatballs...unbelievable. Tremendous meal, great service. Made a reservation for 5, got there to check in and they seated us 30 minutes early. Just a tremendous customer service experience. We were in from out of town, we will be back next time we are in town.
They never gave me OpenTable credit.
I received an email from OpenTable with the subject line "We missed you at Calzone's Pizza Cucina", while I was still at the restaurant, claiming that I had not shown up for my reservation. When I tried to talk to the manager about it I was told that they could not fix it in the system any longer, and I should make a new reservation, they would give me the credit, and then I should cancel the reservation. This seemed pretty weird to me.
Food was good, better if it didn't take an hour to get one calzone. Granted we didn't have to pay for it, but I'd rather have gotten my food when it was due out and pay for it then me having to ask where my food is and literally get it an hour after we ordered it. Loved the patio side dinning, which made it an overall good experience. I'd try it again for sure. Oh and the wine was pretty amazing too!
The good was tasty and the location was great - right in North Beach with great outdoor seating for people watching. Food all came out very quickly - it wasn't a relax and enjoy - more of an eat quick and move on sort of place. But the atmosphere was fun and food was good.
Reservation was set at 730. We sat at our table at 815. Service was timely otherwise but our waiter did not checked on us after food was served. We did not even have a chance to order a glass of wine prior to entrees arriving. We should have ordered a bottle of wine at the beginning of the meal. My son and wife enjoyed the mixed grill. I ordered lamb- mistake. It was overcooked and did not even eat it. Our waiter did take it off our bill. I did enjoy my 10 year olds left over pizza. I left very hungry. Wish I would have chosen a different restaurant.
Second I went. Not as good as my first experience. Negroni I had during my first visit was great, watered and iced down spritzes the second visit not so good. Also the Gorgonzola sauce on my gnocchi was watery and lacked the flavor of the cheese. Much too mild. Too many restaurants so not sure we'll be back.
Hi. We had a lovely time at the restaurant on Wednesday 6/21 at lunch. Our server was Fannie and she was a delight and so helpful and responsive. The serving sizes were amazing and the food was soooo good. Any thing with crab on their menu is amazing! The prices are reasonable, the service is great, the restaurant is cute and cozy what more could you want?
6 family members gathered for a birthday celebration and even though it was a bit warm upstairs we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was fun, drinks were great and the staff was friendly. We left feeling very glad we had chosen the restaurant, which was on a high recommendation. Having Italian blood I was really looking forward to a little taste of NorthBeach, and I was not disappointed. I've been recommending it to others ever since!
I was disappointed from previous visits. Our pizza had tomatoes from bruschetta sprinkled over it and the pepperoni seemed to be over cooked. The service was quick, too quick as everyone running around, seemed like they want to get you in and out quick. The whole experience was of a diner, not a restaurant
We been there a number of times and the service was always great, but this time we were placed upstairs where the service was to say the least minimal. Asked for water got it towards the end of the meal and are bar order never arrived, plus one of our guest didn't get her meal until the rest of us had almost completed ours
With a name like Calzone, you would think they would have a good calzone. Very little flavor, with clearly canned products with watery tomato paste sauce. The chicken was overcooked to the point of being chewy. They should offer a build your own to maximize the flavor choices.
Walked by here many times and admired the delicious dishes and gorgeous italian ceramic tables and cozy and colorful sidewalk ambiance. We always wanted get a outside table to watch the passing show on Columbus Ave. So we finally enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon on 4-2-17 and the food was even better than we expected. The service was great and not rushed. The iced tea with raspberry lemonade in carafes was fantastic and the avocado and prosciutto crostini was a dish worth returning for. Calzone is our new favorite North Beach restaurant and we've tried many!
I have walked by this place several times and it has always been packed, and the outside tables for 2 looked adorable. If you have a party of more than 2, then you will be seated inside. I requested a table outside and it made for a very warm ambiance. The orange lighting when the sun goes down really adds to the atmosphere. I was only expecting to have good atmosphere, it was a pleasant surprise that the food and service was also excellent. I highly recommend the calzone, it is not super heavy - but the portion is large enough that you won't leave hungry!
