Set inside the magnificent Oulton Hall, an 18th century mansion converted into Yorkshire's only 5-star hotel, The Calverley Grill is the perfect setting for a low-key lunch or intimate dinner. The menu is full of classic British dishes like roast partridge with game chips; poached wild sea bass with Cornish cockles and baby leeks; and Gloucester Old Spot pork chop with apple sauce. For a really decadent dinner, diners can start with Maldon rock oysters and then feast on the 32oz rib of beef for two, which is carved at the table to add a touch of theatre to your evening. The Calverley Grill is laid-back and unpretentious, while the service is friendly and flawless. Whatever the occasion, you won’t be disappointed.

When I arrived I was told that they were unaware of my reservation through Open Table but they would try and fit me in. I had booked over a week in advance. This was very embarrassing especially as I had received two reminder emails from Open Table about my reservation and it was for a special occasion. I was informed that they would not be accepting Open Table bookings during weekends for the next 6 months due to it being busy with guests staying at the hall. The food was good although the waiter serving us never wrote down our order and memorised all four of our choices which resulted in forgotten meals. I really don't see the harm in writing down an order to get no mistakes. I had booked for a special occasion with 3 members of my family and had always enjoyed my experience at Oulton Hall but after Saturday night's experience I probably won't book again through Open Table.

Sunday lunch at Oulton Hall's Calverley Grill was a very pleasant experience. The staff were friendly, the hotel and restaurant decor is lovely, good selection of choices on the sunday lunch menu and the price is very reasonable for the quality of the meal and the surroundings. We had coffee afterwards out in the lounge area which have nice comfy sofas and chairs. Fewers diners than expected but that is probably just a sign of the times.

Calverley Grill@Oulton Hall Leeds - not sure about the new decor (maybe lost some of of it's former granduer) but the cooking is still good. The set meal for Dinner is geat value at £30 and the a la carte menu looks as though it has some interesting choices.
