Over rated and over priced for what it is
Always a great time at Calle Ocho! Was fortunate to be able to get in on their last date in the location inside of the Excelsior Hotel. Looking forward to more great times in their new location further uptown!
Waiter coukd have been more attentive had to flag him down a few times. The glasses weren't the goblet kind which kind of takes away from the experience. At their new location they should double the amount the purchase because getting sangria in a regular glass doesn't feel like I'm paying for something special. Food was good as always, portions small but people come for the sangria.
Calle Ocho is one of my favorite Brunch spots. Who can resist delicious bottomless sangria and great food? It's the perfect place to visit with friends. The only downsides are the service can be extremely slow and it can become frustrating. Thankfully, if you're in great company and you have your sangria, you'll live. Also, the noise levels here are astronomically high. You have to practically scream across the table if you're with a large group, because it would be impossible to hear in normal voice levels.
Terrific cuban/ latin food, well-presented and delicious. Servers were wonderful.
We enjoyed our dinner so much! The staff is so friendly and attentive. The drinks were excellent. We love going to Calle Ocho!
This place never disappoints - fantastic drinks and food and super attentive service.
Went for brunch on 6.23.19. I haven't been in over 10 years so I should not have been surprised that things have changed. I loved the old dining room with its expansive ceilings and the beckoning glass dispensers of Sangria on tap. The dining areas now cozier and they bring the Sangria glass by glass. FYI- it better be empty or you get no more!!!! (somebody spoiled it for the rest of us...) On the other hand, The food was just as amazing as I remember. I enjoyed the Ropa Viejo so much that I didn't leave a morsel on my plate. The portions were substantial but the waitstaff was harried and none too personable. nonetheless, I 'd probably go back.
I love this place - the food, the drinks, the service. But brunch the other day....the noise was deafening. Could barely communicate with the people at my table
Delicious food options and numerous sangria flavours to choose from
The brunch price was very reasonable for the amount of drinks you are able to get one sitting. My food was good but it was board-line cold. It could of been cause eggs do get cold quicker then other food. And the avocado could’ve cooled it off.
Food was delicious, I had the ropa vieja. Manage to try all but 1 of the flavors of sangria and I prefer the red sangria. Service was great our waiter was attentive to our table. We always had a glass of sangria ready to drink. Love the atmosphere will definitely recommend to friends.
We came here on a Friday night to celebrate my father‘s birthday. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. And the ambience was perfect, there was good music playing but it was not too loud which allowed us to have a great conversation at the table. I was allowed to bring in a cake that was brought to us at the end of the dinner with Candles as we sang happy birthday. The price was also fairly decent.
Very much enjoyed our meal. Huge portions, interesting menu. Would go there again.
Being from Miami this is not Spanish flood
Nothing to do with Spanish food
We had a great dinner, wanted to go back this weekend but they were closed! Not sure if they are reopening but hopefully they do.
Food was phenomenal.... Drinks was Outstanding.... Service was spectacular
35th Anniversary and we chose to come back to a place we so enjoyed before- the food was less than expected, service not great- had to keep waving down help to refill my water glass. The tuna avocado cerviche was drowned in a soy sauce mix that made it impossible to eat- we ate avocado off top. The corn fritter with goat cheese was the only light the entire night- the drinks were awful and we left feeling like at least we loved the company ... of each other - a true waste! We heard they are moving so figure. I I was cares anymore- also had a “grade pending” rating!! Should have been our first clue to turn around and find another place.
Had brunch with a few friends for my birthday. Had a reservation and was seated promptly. The food was delicious the drinks were great. I tried the Blanca and two other sangrias , they have a lot to try,I could only get to three. I had the steak with egg, rice and avocado, it was amazing. I’d go back again they charge 2bucks each to serve your own birthday cake so be prepared if you wanted to bring your own cake. I would come again.
My date was impressed since he never had the rich experience.definitely would do it again
It was good to see a restaurant seat a party when then all of the members weren’t there. They clearly stated it was a 2 hour time limit, which was fine with us. The only issue was that the food did take a very long time to come out - we had only about 35-40 minutes to eat when considering the time limit. Sangria was good, and I will definitely come back for sure!
We stayed in the hotel and had dinner here. Food was very good..Lots of it, so order accordingly. Place is a little dark and very loud. Staff was super nice!! Pauley at the bar was great. Really, really good Mojitos. He was very attentive! Would recommend if you also like Sangria as it is free here with brunch!
I love this place so much. Food and drinks were great as always. But as someone who also works in hospitality, I noticed that the servers were stretched too thin. They either need assistant servers to help them or to not have so many tables to cover.
Food and drinks were good as always. The service was pretty slow, but they had one waiter serving like 6 tables that each had 6-10 people. He definitely needed help.
Great ambience! We did not have to wait long for our meal. Good service. It was nice to see servers doing their job in a professional manner and not dilly-dally, or talking loudly over the food like some places do.
Always a pleasure to spend a great occasion here
The food is excellent as usual, and the portions are big. Be prepared to bring home a doggie bag! However, my friends and I made the mistake of going on a Friday night, and even though we had a 5:30pm reservation, the noise level was already high. By the time our entrees arrived, we could barely have a conversation. People seemed to be having a good time shouting at each other, but if you want to catch up with your friends, Friday night is not the night to go.
Service is impeccable; both friendly and efficient. Drinks were delicious (caipirinha and mojito). Food was delicious. Do NOT skip the delicious rolls! Excellent cafe con leche.
Great food , great service
The food, sangria and service were better than the date. I guess you can’t do it all can ya...
The food portions were massive and brunch came with complimentary sangria (8 types!) and they were all amazing.
Well it was last minute reservation after graduation so my guests surprised to see the amazing place, service and food was perfect our server Efrain was very attentive on our table.. Thanks.. I will be back soon...
Waitress left us alone for too long so we had to wait a while for a refill on our sangria.
They have a good brunch, however I think it’s declining. We unfortunately weren’t seated in a good location. The food is very good.
The service for a Saturday afternoon was awesome and the brunch was delicious. The refills for bottomless sangria was outstanding!
WAY too expensive for the quality of food. That alone. I don't mind paying for an expensive breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but AT LEAST the quality of the food MUST BE exceptional or really good at best. Also- mistake made when I asked one of the busboys for ginger ale for my wife and he brought sparkling water. Margaritas I had were weak and tiny until the 5th one was brought randomly and without any notice from our server, in a tall glass. How do you mess up guacamole at a mexican restaurant? And the plaintain chips weren't great. Overall, very underwhelming. Won't be going back there. May sound like a harsh review, but I'm just being honest.
A new find and delicious!!!! Will definitely return. Thank you.
One of my favorite restaurants!!
Extremely poor service. Waiter was not attentive. Received main course before we even received drinks
I'd highly recommend this place to any friends or family looking for a great weekend brunch spot on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The food portions range from adequate to generous and the different sangria options provide an option for all. On top of this my party was sat down prior to our reservation time and we had a very attentive server even though the restaurant was full to capacity. The server also answered all of our questions about the food and drink items in a courteous manner.
