About Calle Ocho
More festive than a piñata stuffed with a mariachi band and twice as stylish, Calle Ocho’s lively crowd is amped up on Mojitos, Caipirinhas, Sangria and Spanish wine or beer and shows no sign of slowing down. Those not willing or able to holler over the salsa music retire to the two small lounge areas to commiserate. The bar area is a prelude to their Nuevo Latino cuisine in the dining room that will knock your taste buds for a loop. If you’re in need of a quick jump-start, Calle Ocho will get your motor running.

Calle Ocho Ratings and Reviews
Excellent in every way! Located across 81st Street from the American Museum of Natural History (which is why I chose it to for post-museum dining on a very cold Sunday evening). Calle Ocho is a lovely restaurant which offers a variety of Latino dishes. I began with a perfect Mojito and a lobster/mango/scallion ceviche, proceeded to devour a very flavorful mariscada, and ended with a splurge-worthy tres leches (filled with pineapple and coconut). My fiancee proclaimed his grilled jumbo shrimp over coconut rice (a special that evening) delicious. I was also impressed with our waiter (unfortunately, I do not have his name) who made excellent recommendations and was extremely knowledgeable regarding the composition of each dish. Another good point: heat level of spices was perfectly adjusted to our tastes! Worth the slightly high prices from drink to dessert.
Was there last Sat. for Brunch. The drinks were ok. My meal of shrimp & grits was tasty but on the soupy side. My friends Skirt steak with rice was described as the rice being good but the steak was over done and didn't taste right. And No, I doubt that I will be returning to the restaurant.
We came here to celebrate a birthday. The food was not good. The sangria was not good either neither were the desserts. I had to ask twice for the candle on the dessert to sing a happy birthday but they kept forgetting. Overall, the place oversells itself when it isn’t that good.
What a wonderful surprise. We had not been to Calle Ocho for many years and had never been to the "new" location. We chose it for New Year's Eve because it had open dining and was near where we had gone for a concert. We come form Hudson County where we have many 'latino" restaurants which is why we haven't been to Calle Ocho in a while. But the Food is fabulous--having expanded from traditional Cuban to include many Central and South American items. The portions were more than generous. And, on a hard evening like New Year's Eve the service was impeccable. I would definitely go back. One of my favorites was the Bizcocho dessert-- I believe Peruvian, unusual (to us) but Delicioso! Our appetizers of calamari, arepas con ropa vieja and pulpo were fabulous too. And the lechon!!!! Just a great meal in a wonderful place.
My partner and I went for NYE diner and we were both very satisfied with the food and service. His steaks came a little red in the middle but issue was fixed as soon as we addressed. I ordered the paella. The portion is huge. It can easily feed three people. The flavor was delicious.
Decor could use some update. But overall, Calle Ocho is a great place with tasteful food.
It was Christmas Eve so the festive decor was great. The food as always was very good. Everything was fresh and presentation was lovely. One complaint. The staff was overly attentive. Pour sangria when we said no, constantly coming to take plates away and generally hovering.
Fabulous boozy Sunday Brunch! Their sangrias are huge and killers, the bread basket is generous and filled with unique items and the Spanish fusion food is extremely tasty (we had Ropa Vieja and a Vaca Frita that I must return for!). The atmosphere is both classy and fun and the wait staff friendly and helpful. They’ve earned a repeat customer!
Reservations are a must for the very popular Sunday times.
We had dinner as a family. The appetizers were very good!
We had the empanada and ceviche.
But the dinner entrees were all sub-standard. We have the seabass which was tasteless and the steak frites which was charred and touch.
My husband had the Cuban skirt steak and it was average.
The service was outstanding!
Calle ocho has been our go to spot to celebrate our anniversary each year. We recently went back for our 8 year anniversary after not coming last year and it was like we never left. When i made the reservation I noted that it was our anniversary and they greeted us with champagne. That attention to detail is amazing =) They added some new items to the menu which we of course tried and it was out this world good! Thank you for treating us so good and I am looking forward to continuing the tradition.
We love this place, although last Sunday’s brunch was somewhat disappointing. So noisy, more then usual, absolutely packed with hotel guests and visitors, plus staff was overworked, indifferent and with facial expression of ‘God, I hate my job!’ Brunch menu was $29 including sangria ‘all you can drink’, but food was not up the standards of Calle Ocho I know-should have just picked off the regular menu, but they get you with sangrias mixed with cheap table wine...oh, well-I did have fun, though, not much food at all, but slept for rest of the day from those boozy sangrias!!
The noise level was outrageous and there was thumping music to top it off. Would not go back for that reason.
Service was pleasant when we had it. They were sadly understaffed on Saturday night and there were a couple of mistakes with drinks order. Coffee did not come until it was pointed out that it had been ordered.
The food was ok but could not be enjoyed in the hectic noisy restaurant.
The moment you enter Calle Oche the energy and vibe is upbeat and happy. Cocktails were amazing as was the food and the service. I can recommend this restaurant for a special night out or just a dinner with friends. Paella was one of the best I have ever had.
Good space but horrible food. The steaks were not cooked to temperature we requested on all 3 different steak options we ordered. Only plus side is the dinner rolls are decent and the soft taco entree was good. Very mediocre to bad food other wise.
I took my mom here for her birthday, everything went well down to the food even down to the birthday desert I pre ordered that cake with a candle and a happy birthday written in chocolate. I would so recommend this place especially because it was my second time their.
Warm atmosphere with a nice variety of entrees and drinks. This was a great choice for a big family get-together. Service was attentive, but never intrusive. Food is tasty and colorful. We felt very welcome, and the service was well-timed throughout the entire meal.
This was a great location on Wednesday before Thanksgiving to see the balloons and have a bite to eat. Don’t think I would go back. Food was good but the appetizer we ordered came out with dinner and the famed lobster mashed potatoes were cold. Server was nice and helpful in recommending cocktails and dinner. No specials was disappointing.
