Great food...some of the best salsa verde (with shrimp) I’ve ever had! But as good as the food is here, the service even exceeds it. Great hostess, excellent bartender and fabulous waiters work here. I eat out a lot, and this place has the top 2% of excellent service of places I have dined at. The sangria is excellent both whites and reds. Camarones were tasty and the Paella was outstanding. I highly recommend this place.
One of my favorite places. I love to make a reservation but then just sit in the lounge area of the bar, order some white sangria and some pandebono (Colombian cheese bread...but it’s not cheesy), dip it in the black bean dip, and enjoy!! When I eventually order food, I take most of it home because I enjoyed the sangria and pandebono so much. But the food never disappoints.
Amazing, everything was delicious!
My boyfriend and I went for Sunday Brunch and had an absolutely wonderful time at Calle Ochoe. The waiter was very pleasant and efficient. We didn't have a wait between meals and the different selections of Sangria is a plus. I totally recommend.
I love Calle Ocho and the food is great every time I go. I was a little disappointed this time around, you have 2 hours for brunch and our reservation was at 12:30pm. By 1:55pm, the waiter was saying our time was already up. I mentioned I thought it was for two hours but he said "no" very rudely and said they had to get ready for the 2pm reservations. I guess if you go, book at 12pm or 2pm to get your full two hours....
¡Fantastic service & food is like Abuela made it!
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The sangria was amazing as was our food. The lobster mashed potatoes I want to go back and have again. My girlfriends and I were very happy and enjoyed our night.
Great Latin restaurant that plays classic salsa in the background and gives big portions in food. Pricey but worth it
Had not been to Calle Ocho in a while, and while I used to be a fan, I feel it has really gone down hill. The space and ambience are nice, but the food was really average. Had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees and all were just ok, but are priced for more than ok. Hope it gets better (again).
I went to Calle Ocho last night and I must say that I was really disappointed. Not everything went bad, but to start the food was room temperature, I ordered first as an appetizer the arepa, which was good on taste but I must repeat was room temperature almost cold. I had Vaca frita al caballo, and once again, room temperature and on top of that was tasteless, very very flavorless, unappetizing ugh! Not good at all! (My fiancé ordered the same, had the same observations). The only two things that make this review a 3 star (not 1 as it should be) was the Piña mojitos and my mother dish the lechón which was really good to be fair. My waiter was amigable, but forgot to drinks twice.
The reason I gave service 4 stars because I felt rushed by server to order. We were barely settled in our seats when he asked what we wanted to drink. I had to say can you give us a bit to get ourselves comfortable. Then it happened occasionally throughout time there. Nonetheless, food was delicious and loved the ambience. Will definitely return there.
OUR FOOD, BEVERAGE AND SERVICE WERE GREAT (EXCEPT FOR THE SURLEY HOSTESS WAS NOT SO NICE).
Absolutely fantastico, Bravo!!!!
Great experience! Great service! Will definitely be back soon! The food was delicious!Thank you!
We loved the extensive ceviche menu and extensive sangria menu. A tasty meal in a mellow space. I’ll go back.
We love this place. I had been craving their popcorn shrimp with that fabulous sweet & spicy sauce for a month. It was better than ever! Succulent shrimp, awesome breading, cooked to perfection.....crispy on the outside but tender & juicy shrimps. I swooned with every bite. Nice portion too. Everyone loves their sangria but the food is not notch!
This is right across 81st street from the American Museum of Natural History, so an early dinner is pretty easy. They were out of my first two beer choices, but the wine list, while not extensive had a very good selection of reasonably priced nice wines. Slight service mishap, the waiter didn't put in our (split) appetizer (but didn't bill us for it either). Turns out that was OK because the portions were pretty big.
Both my wife and I got the Red Snapper special, which was very good. Flavorful, but not spicy, the fish had a bit of crisp on the outside and was tender moist on the inside - basically perfect. The topper was that the rice dish the snapper was served over was delicious enough for a separate meal. Walking past the kitchen presented an array of really nice looking dishes. This is on our list for a return visit. Value was pretty good too.
This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. From beginning to end it was great. Hostess was very friendly. All three gentlemen who came to our table were also very friendly and professional. One of the gentlemen even gave us some recommendation which was super helpful because the menu is full of amazing dishes. Drinks were perfectly made and the food left me and my family so satisfied and wanting to come back to try other dishes. The pictures of dishes online are exactly what you get and food taste amazing. Music was also very nice and perfect for conversation. Perfect for family dinners or a romantic night out. 5 stars!
Our waiter was very attentive and gracious. We sat in the lounge area by the bar. The food, drinks and overall ambiance was exceptional. My husband and I can't wait to go back!
It wasAmazing .perfect Choose to celebrate our Anniversary!!
Food was not cooked well & my coupon was not honored.
Delicious food. Beautiful romantic lighting and the waiter was very attentive. The sangria roja was great.
Perfect spot for a small celebration of my husband’s 60th Birthday! Great service, food, drinks and atmosphere!
The food was good but IMO, it was a bit pricey for the meal! To be fair, with the free sangrias and the generally big portions, others may not think it's really worth it! Note, the sangrias as quite strong. My table only downed 1 or 2 each. The waiter was very attentive and the restaurant was generous for letting my friend decrease her table size and letting me eat with her (we initially booked separate but I was running late and her party decreased!). I like quieter establishments but the place was very crowded and it seemed like a happening spot.
The place was nice but to me the food was bland. I’m used to eating authentic Latin cuisine and me and my party felt that the food had no flavor. Although I did enjoy my drink.
I would not recommend brunch at Calle Ocho. They rushed us and only let us eat for less than an hour. Rude and my food was cold.
Beautiful atmosphere , great food and amazing service
Beautiful place to eat some Cuban food.. Loved the idea of complimentary coctails while you wait for food and also during eating your meal.. Simply justified..
Definitely will visit again and I also suggest to try this place out..
Amazing brunch! Best in the city!
Vaca frita was amazing!
Ceviche Hondureno wasn't good didn't taste as a cevihe, the duck wasn't good also.
Just okay. Our food came less than five minutes after we ordered. It was not hot and obviously not cooked to order. I expected more from a place like this. Not supposed to be a fast food joint. We won’t go back.
A bit overrated, barely any alcohol in the sangrias and chaotic atmosphere
The overall experience was great. The only concern I had was that they rush you from ordering your drinks all the way to dessert. I understand that it’s bottomless and that other people have reservations. They just could be a little discreet about moving along. I saw the hostess walk around a few times and it could’ve been that he was just attentive but I felt like I was being monitored on how fast I was eating.
Extremely noisy, food really mediocre, waiters nice but in a hurry
We went in for our anniversary dinner. The service was attentive and pleasant, as usual. Mostly efficient. Love the vibrant, colorful decor. The food and drinks were fantastic, as always. Dishes are unusually creative and inventive. Even the bread at the beginning is one of our favorite items at the restaurant! Delightful, overall. Upscale casual. Perfect balance. We will return!
Had an absolutely great time, service was excellent.
I go here every year for Valentine's Day for the past 8 years. I got to go to the other Calle Ocho before it was moved to the hotel and I was never disappointed. Keep doing exactly what you doing. Bring back the flan and pollo peruano please. Thanks.
Mediocre, especially the food. All orders were close to tasteless and without the proper seasonings you might expect from Cuban food.
Great place, however we were disappointed with Sangria and cocktails as were the patrons next to us. Specifically, it was sweet red wine with fruit, that not Sangria, and cocktails had less than 1/3 giver if that. We relayed this to the Manager on call Wed., 7/14, and he took my cocktail, went to the bar, made the cocktail himself and brought it over to me. Yes, he's obviously a very good bar tender because I truly enjoyed it. Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a Manager.
