Calistoga Inn Restaurant & Brewery Ratings and Reviews
Went on weekday and it was empty. My wife ordered the skirt steak which was as tough as shoe leather. The potatoes and vegetables were uncooked. The vegetables were sent back and returned loaded with salt. I had seafood pasta which was fair. Wouldn’t return.
Four of us had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner… The food was excellent and the portions were very generous. What made the experience even more special was we had phenomenal service from very warm and accommodating staff members. I'd like them to know that we greatly appreciated them giving up this holiday for us and for being so attentive and nice!
Dinner was fabulous. My wife ate the crab cakes for an entree and there were two very satisfying ones that were a complete meal and I had the country paella, which was delightfully spicy and tasty and I enjoyed each bite more slowly than I often do when eating a meal taking it all in. We also really liked the ambiance, the staff and the soft electric guitar that was playing. The music was perfect as it was delightfully there in the background, but did not dominate and make conversation difficult. All in all a wonderful night.
This place could really use some new life. The menu items are stale, as is the decor and sweet, but poorly trained wait staff. We started with the clams and muscles. The broth was pretty much a bland chicken stock, but the muscles and clams were quiet meaty and well cooked. Then we shared a wedge salad. It was the saddest hunk of iceberg you ever saw ... browned at the edges and core included. No love or pride of food in that dish! We sampled it anyway, and the taste was surprisingly ok. Next we had the jerked chicken and prosciutto pizza. The pizza was actually quite tasty! Excellent fresh dough, cooked to perfection, with a crust that held a crunchy exterior and doughy lovely middle. Plus I love figs, especially with marscapone, and on a pizza? Yes please! The chicken was so salty it was barely edible. Which is a shame because the jerk seasoning was actually nice, and the potato cake underneath was very good. We got a lemon dessert to go. It was pretty good, but t would have been nice to have some forks!
We also did a beer flight after a day of wine tasting. We love beer. Sadly only the porter was good.
We enjoyed the food. The service was not as good as it could have been, for as many employees as there are and for the prices you pay it is reasonable to expect to be checked on and drinks refilled which we did not get. Overall the ambiance was nice and the food was great.
Great food & atmosphere! We dined on the outside covered patio while enjoying live music, a guitar player. We both started with the tomato, fig and burrata cheese salad. It was amazing- fresh heirloom tomatoes that tasted like they were just picked from the garden. The dinner of fresh scallops on a bed of corn and risotto was amazing; simple flavors and fresh ingredients. I would go back again and order the exact same meal. Great wines and friendly attentive service by the waitstaff.
We enjoyed our meal - the summer risotto was outstanding - my only issue was the waiter said it was vegetarian, but i'm sure it had chicken broth, because it was so delicious! Loved the guitar player - added to our evening. Strange pricing - some items are a great deal, others very expensive.
The food was fairly good (fresh and varied), but the chef's creativity took some dishes in the wrong direction. For example, the heirloom tomato salad (filled with a variety of tomatoes at the height of the season) was dotted with very sweet figs and sweet (and low-acid) balsamic vinegar, leaving the dish too sweet and begging for acidity. Another creative dish that went astray was the room-temp avocado pasta, an attempt at fusion that, while combining fresh and bright flavors like cilantro and lime, yielded a very heavy mound of food. Had the chef substituted raw ribbons of zucchini for the dense pasta, it might have been a lighter and more balanced dish. While the meal was generally good, the dessert (a baked, berry crisp a la mode) was astoundingly good--verging on revelatory. It turned what was becoming a run-of-the-mill wine country bistro meal into something memorable. I might choose to dine elsewhere next time, but I would not try to dissuade first-timers from giving it a go. that dessert was ridiculous, and I'm not usually a dessert guy.
Calistoga Inn did not disappoint! The large patio is the perfect place for outside dining in the warmer months. All four of us enjoyed our meals - fit for foodies. Service with a smile was perfect. We enjoyed the guitarist playing during dinner. We left satiated and happy.
What a lovely little spot in the middle of our cute little town. We dined outside and it was a beautiful warm evening. The heirlooms were in season and the presentation with buratta was impeccable. Our favorite dish however was the paella. Being foodies we savor the best and this was an 8 1/2 out of the 10. They did it right. We also asked that the chef toast their homemade bread which they did graciously and with all the sauces it was a perfect accompaniment. Wine, beer, all excellent along with very the friendliest servers - so I recommend it. Good choice.
Calistoga Inn had wonderful food and atmosphere! We sat outside and had a wonderful time eating calamari, ribs, and salmon with risotto. This was the best risotto I had in a while! The creme brûlée dessert was fantastic! Perfect amount of sugar and filling. The beer sampler was also delicious. Some varieties (pilsner, wheat) were better than ones out on the open market. I would definitely return!
The food was wonderful. The service was spot on and the drinks were unique and delicious. We sat outside and really enjoyed the setting. We ordered steak, paella and calamari. All of the dishes were great and would order them again. Very nice experience. We will come again!
Outstanding tomato bisque. Friendly service. Nice outdoor seating. Beware: unfortunately, there is quite a bit of construction going on during the week on a bridge that is right next to the restaurant. This creates a noise level but wasn't too bad, even while sitting outside.
It took us a while to get someone to take our order. Someone came by to put a tablecloth on our table and didn't even ask whether we were ready to order. Thus, it took a long time to even get drinks. The hanger steak with port wine onions and the citron mule were really good though.
