Caliente - Kings Beach
The chili Chile
The best Mexican food we’ve experienced either here, Bay Area, and even Mexico!!!
Excellent service. Red snapper tacos, short rib flautas AND prickly pear margaritas were awesome!
Asked for a specific type of liquor for a margarita, and was told they didn’t have it to later see it sitting in the back stock, ordered a Cadillac margarita, it was missing grand mariner and were terrible, too much sweet and sour mix, especially because I asked for light “skinny” margarita. (I know this all sounds picky but I promise you they were subpar margaritas.
I’m pretty sure the short rib flautas were made with a corn tortilla not flour- which makes it a taquito not a flauta. I’ve eaten here a few years ago and it was delicious. This time not so much. It was like eating at chili’s.
We had a very pleasant meal at Caliente. We were able to get a table upstairs so we could eat outdoors. Our waitress was very nice and provided us with excellent e food was fantastic. I think the guacamole in our appetizer had about 15 avocados in it!
The food was sad. No meat in the tacos, and server never circled back to check on our food. The menu is sparse. Won’t be returning. 👎
Very good food. Upscale Mexican food. I enjoy the Fish Vera Cruz. This place is owned by the same owner as Garwoods. Both restaurants have good food, which I find is tough in this area.
Service could have been better but the food and manager’s attention to our problem means we’ll be back
Great outdoor patio overlooking the lake makes for a wonderful ambiance. Excellent service and decent food made it a memorable night with friends.
Charging for chips and salsa is really cheap. If they want to make sure they don’t lose money on these items, increase the cost of drinks or entrees It just does t have a good look when u charge for what other Mexican restaurants serve gratis. Also bring back the Crab Cimichanga. Everyone in my group was disappointed it was off the menu. Otherwise food was great
Unfortunately I have dined here a few times with a lot better experiences. We were a party of 8 and the service was way below standards. To be clear our food server was young and very energetic however the restaurant had a very off night. It started when we ordered drinks only half cane because they Elena out of glasses. Then the appetizer came Nachos which were the best of everything we ordered. I split a burrito which cane out like warm and the tacos ordered had meat that was clearly warmed through a microwave. We didn’t have napkins our cutlery for a while. Anyway we had to cancel a 2nd drinks order because it took way to long. Ohh well it’s 1 meal and I am sure it’s difficult to find staff that is reliable but I won’t be headed back here for a while!
Reliably good! Fish tacos are excellent, so are chips and salsa and guacamole is outstanding. Fun place with a nice rooftop on the way to Incline for concerts etc.
The service was good for a big party... new managers went out of their way to ensure our experience was good.
Had been wanting to try this place for a long time. When we got there we had a reservation but walked past 6-7 ya Les that were dirty or hadn’t been bused. Thought that was odd. We were served quickly. Had the famous Chibacabra which was delish! My tacos were good as was the burrito. Our server was very sweet and quick.
I love mexican food, this was good not excellent
The food was way over priced for what it was. The drinks were good, but super strong, could only have one. Douchebag ambiance overall.
Caliente offers a nice outdoor dining experience on their upper deck. However we were seated at a table with the sun going down, shining directly at some of our diners and there was no way to adjust the large umbrellas to counteract that. Our server was sweet but got our food wrong...and it took way too long. Our fajitas were not sizzling at all. A fair rating is the best I can give.
I left a conference to have a meal away from the crowd. I was happy that I did. The short rib taquito's and chile rellenos were both excelllent. The steak fajitas were good. The tequila was fairly priced. Overall, a very good experience!
Best Mexican food around the lake. The Shrimp Tacos and Wet Burrito were marvelous.
2 kids 4 adults all had dinner and 1 picture of Margaritas and it was 300 dollars. The food came out quick but it wasn't that good and the Margaritas sucked. Save your money and go to Taco bell.
Food quality mediocre. Not all food was hot upon serving.
Food was bland. Drinks were overpriced. Made a reservation to enjoy a baseball game and instead of seating us at a nice table in view of a TV in the restaurant, we were seated at a high top table in the bar area next to the entrance with a limited view of the game. We have liked Caliente very much in the past, but this experience makes us not want to go back.
We were an hour late due to an accident on the road, but they saved us our table. We did call in, but the cell connection was cut off in the middle. So we were happy about this place.
Food: decent food, decent price. We were there to celebrate a birthday, and the ambiance was perfect: celebratory and romantic for a group of 10.
Service: our waiter tried so hard! But he didn't get the order right & the wait time was rather long.
I think we would not likely to go back for a cozy dinner, but we would for a group gathering. Just need to make sure that nobody's terribly hungry.
Very good location and decor. Service attentive but credit increased because we had 2 tired grandchildren! Were outside on roof bar, great with good weather. Food very good but a little pricey perhaps - no reason not to go.
Service was slow, food was incorrect and mediocre at best. They had live music in the corner which would normally be an added benefit . . . However, the female singer was unbearable to listen to. Tables all around us were making fun of it, it was so bad. Really distracting and made the whole experience unpleasant.
We eat st Caliente every time we visit King’s Beach. It is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is really good and we love sitting on the upper deck. We highly recommend Caliente to anyone visiting North Shore.
The spicy shrimp tacos were good. The flavor came through with the spice level. The guacamole needed a bit more salt and jalapeno for my taste but it was a nice chunky guacamole. The two top table couldn't fit 2 waters, 2 drinks and 2 entrees. The waitress moved our candle to make room for it all. You can't beat the views of Tahoe and the mountains when you're sitting outside.
Wonderful dinner on the outdoor deck. Told our server it was a special occasion and they treated us to churros and ice cream.
The meal and experience was excellent!
The churros were amazing!!
Our group was seated quickly and attended well by server. Place was not busy at this time of the year. Spicy shrimp taco was good, fish tacos and steak fajita lacked seasoning and meat was tough. Entrees and drinks expensive.
James, our server, did an excellent job and he is an asset to Caliente! Great job James!
The restaurant was mostly empty the night we went, so it was naturally quiet. The waitress was attentive, the food was good, and we enjoyed ourselves. I really liked the queso fundido.
The food was great. The server was great we enjoyed our time we will come again
Drinks were good, ambiance great, and the food was just OK. Didn't come here for a 5 star meal so we left very happy.
Friendly waiter. Good, quick service. Food was great. I loved the shrimp fajitas
It was a great atmosphere to celebrate a birthday. Portions were a little small for the price but honestly it was enough food.
Sucked big time. Food and service horrendous
We LOVE Caliente! The food is delicious, the vibe is always great and the servers and managers are the nicest people. Eat here!
Food is delicious as well as the margaritas. It would be terrific to have the tortilla chips included with drinks and dinner.
Tasty margaritas and delicious guacamole with chips. Upper deck is fun on the summer.
