Fantastic view, good food, beautiful buildings and landscaping. A fun place to get together for special occasions. One feels like they are at a fancy country club without the expense.
View is spectacular, but food and service are sub-par
Exceptional view with wonderful food, wine and ambience. The staff was professional, warm and efficient. We will definitely be back.
We went to the Calcutta Grill with our best friends for my wife's birthday dinner. The view, of course, is one of the best in the northwest, especially at sunset, even better with the bagpiper playing! But there is also great food and great service. I had arranged for flowers to be delivered for my wife's birthday, and they were waiting on the table when we were seated. I had the Prime Rib, which is perfect. My wife had the steak, which she said was one of the best she's had. Our friends both had the King Salmon; they said it was excellent. We felt the prices were very reasonable, given the ambience, the quality of the food and service, and the killer view. All in all, a great dining experience.
Food was so-so. I was there for lunch, and had the salmon corn chowder, and something called "Mediterranean Flavors". The chowder was good, but nothing special. The "Mediterranean Flavors" dish had an olive tapenade which was okay, hummus which was quite good, and a feta spread which was okay. The thing that ruined the dish though, was the pita. How do you ruin a pita? You cut it into strips, fry it crisp - using some kind of grease, and then serve it very cold.
They serve very pretty bread rolls at the table, paired with something whipped that may or may not be butter. It had no flavor, and left a greasy feel in my mouth.
I made a reservation well in advance through Open Table. We were scheduled as one of the first tables during opening time. When we arrived we were told there was a big rush and our table was being set up. We had to wait 15 minutes while others were all seated ahead of us.
Dinner at Newcastle is always a great dining experience. The food is superb, staff attentive, and noise level is much more quiet than other restaurants.
First of all, I have to say the restaurant has the best views in all of Seattle. So if you want to have a cocktail and sit outside, this is your spot. HOWEVER, if you want to have dinner, watch out. The waitresses are surly - even rude. Our table was seated over an hour late, and then they cut the drinks off early, so we were shortchanged on our celebration. We had to practically beg for silverware and dishes. We were never offered dessert, coffee, after dinner drinks, more water, more bread - basically, the waitress took our order and then dumped food on our table. I have to say, however, that the food was very good. I would not recommend this place for a nice dinner, but would definitely recommend it for a cocktail at sundown.
The food is nothing special. We live near here and rarely go unless we want the view. They could do with a better chef.
Cindy is a great waitress!!! If possible ask for her!
As always, the Calcutta Grill was exceptional.
We had a wonderful time. We did the wine wars promotion and had so much fun. We will back to try Italy vs Spain! The server was great explaining everything and the manager stopped by to talk about the wines. Too bad it was raining.
The stunning hilltop location & outdoor dining is the best thing about this place. The food was mediocre with odd combinations. The service was worse.
What a spectacular place for Easter Brunch. We were blessed with a picture perfect day . Everyone from the hostess to the entire waitstaff was pleasant , in control of everything and everyone had a good sense of humor. The food was delicious and there was something to please everyone.
thought the brunch was way too expensive for what we received and hardly ever saw our server but had an 18% gratuity added. $462 for 6 people was crazy for brunch - wouldn't do it again - sorry
Overall given it was Easter Buffet Brunch, the experience was good. Fabulous views on an awesome day. Food was good; attention to replentishing the buffet was a service gap. Staff very congenial and great with the children.
Brunch is overpriced, under-delivered.
This was Easter brunch. The food was good but there was nothing to wow. We missed the cheese blintzes. Service is always excellent!
Had girls night out for dessert and wine, and it was lovely. Our server, Camille was friendly, attentive and very helpful with recommendations. We had a great time, enjoyed the views and the desserts were amazing.
Our first impression of the Calcutta Grill began with the exceptional customer service extended by the hostess. I wish we knew her name. She was gracious, welcoming and friendly setting the tone for the remainder of our time there. The fish and chips were excellent as was the cobb salad. We will definitely return again. Breathtaking views.
We enjoy Calcutta Grill because we have many good memories of Newcastle and our daughter's wedding. The view is spectacular. The food was good but not outstanding. We were disappointed in the dessert menu as it is not as good as it has been in the past. (both in choices and quality)
Has one of the most scenic views anywhere.
I've been a great fan of this place & have been going there for a few years now. Have hosted some group get-together especially in summers. First of all, the brunch buffet which was one of their highlights stopped. My recent experience there wasn't good especially in terms of service that will make me think about going there again. My friend asked for a substitution of which the server agreed to, but still brought the original dish out. When we pointed out, he said you should have told me before starting to eat. Hmm...how would we know? And then no compensation or anything?
food is excellent, pricing was better then expected and absolutely wonderful view with your meal. I will be returning !
Jason in the bar is EXCELLENT! The view is AMAZING! The food was GREAT! ...waiter forgot the forks..and the bread. We had a really nice time and will have dinner there again.
had a really nice time. Will be back!
We had an excellent Valentine's Day meal at Calcutta. Food was excellent, prepared well, and the service was excellent. Would certainly consider it again for a special occasion ... spendy but good!
Guess this is not the place to go for Valentine's Day. The service was horrible....we ended up with our appetizer, soup, salad and entrees all at the same time. We did not feel rushed but it is not the way I like to have dinner with a crowded table of food that you have to rush to eat before it gets cold. The taste of the food was very good and we had a wonderful table view. We will go to Calcutta on a regular occasion, but avoid it on special event days.
Service was great considering how busy they were on Valentines. Usually when we go there everything is outstanding, that night was not our best meal. We waited over 30 minutes for our entree, which seems a little excessive.
The crab cake benedicts were delicious. Service was wonderful as well.
Our group had an excellent lunch with a fabulous view and great service. Thanks so much!
We had a wonderful dinner. We started with calimari, followed by splitting the Bibb Lettuce Salad. For our entree I had the Salmon and my friend had the seafood stew. We followed that with the Apple Crisp and the Creme Brulee. Every thing was prepared to perfection and very tasty. The wait staff was very attentive and gave us good suggestions. It was a very cold and clear night and with our table by the window we had a fantastic view of downtown Seattle and to the north and south. The Calcutta Grill is one of our favorite places to eat.
Waitress was pretty crazy. Food was way over priced. I got a prime rib prepared medium and it came out medium well. The steaks do not come with any side. Each side is 5 bucks more. A 27 dollar steak plus 5 dollar potatoes is ridiculous. Also, the potatoes I did get were completely cold. Cheap food put at a high cost because of the location. The view is incredible, overlooking the whole livery sound. I took my girlfriend here for new years eve dinner and watched the whole Seattle/Bellevue landscape light up with fireworks. Great place, not such great food or service. Recommend it for location for a special occasion.
We have been here many times before. This time it was New Years Eve. Very noisy and would not have recommended it to a couple for romance.
Although the manager gave us complimentary desserts and coffee we waited an hour for our dinners for the four of us.
My salmon was delicious. Every accomptiment was ala carte. I ordered green beans which were very overcooked. They gave me asperagus instead..Very good.
I was so hungry at almost 8:30 pm that I ate two rolls!!!
Good food and great service but to loud and a bit crowed.
Incredible level of service and ambiance!!
Calcutta Grill is a favorite place to dine. The soft, cozy, and well appointed dining and bar area combined with the spectacular views make it a perfect choice. The french onion soup is outstanding, and the salmon is cooked to perfection. At a recent dinner for 8, each person ordered a different entree, and all were pleased. The service is excellent and flexible with requests.
Food very good. We go here quite frequently. Disappointed in the current wine list and many of the limited selections were not available.
This is a very weak restaurant. The setting is magnificent, the service is mediocre (we waited about 25 minutes at our table for initial attention), the food is only one (short) step above Denny's. My wife ordered a glass of red wine from the menu only to get the response that the wine was not available; precisely the same sequence occurred when I ordered a glass of white wine (again though listed on the menu). I odered a main-course salad with the addition of crab meat. When it came I could neither see nor taste the crab though its choice added $8 to the price. Questioning the waiter regarding that deficiency produced the comment "It's probably in there somewhere." All that in a restaurant that pretends to be elegant.
The Calcutta Grill is a place I take out of town company or clients I am trying to impress. It works every time!
