Calandras Italian Village Ratings and Reviews
Another great visit to Calandra's IL Vecchio Cafe. Our Filet Mignon prepared by Chef Michael was outstanding. It looked and tasted just as DELISH as the Calandra's instagram picture. Our server Vinnie was so accommodating and wonderful. Always a pleasure. Chef Francesco is so creative with his specials and he is great addition to the team. We enjoyed getting to know the new manager, Silvio as well. Everyone at Calandra's ALWAYS makes us feel like family so we come here often. Looking forward to seeing what new dishes, bakery treats, desserts and new entertainment 2018 will bring.
Our server, John, was a huge stand out for our date/celebration. John was so accommodating to a few of my issues. I saw the belinis were listed by the picture with the mimosas so I though it was made with the traditional peach/strawberry pulp. John followed up with the bar that it can be made by the flute and filled my order- but it was made with peach schnapps! John was great with taking it back and even agreeing it was overtly sweet. John continually checked in on us through the night. He also remedied a bill discrepancy for the sides without any issue- he's a real rockstar. We loved our food- spinach salad, grilled octopus , risotto and veal saltimbocca. We weren't crazy about the hashbrowns underneath the octopus- some grilled vegetables would have been a better compliment. We were happy with plenty of space, not loud and not rushed dining experience. We also loved stopping by the bakery with the 20% off for some treats to bring home- the girls at the bakery were also very accommodating.
Went to Il Vecchio Café at Calandra's for lunch. What a deal. $14.95 for salad or soup, main course (sandwiches, etc.), a large cannoli and coffee or tea. I had a salad (great dressing), a veal parm sandwich, the cannoli and coffee. Everything was delicious. Dining room is very nice looking and not crowded at lunch time.
Food is very good. Service is good. Everyone is friendly. The ambience needs work though... It's pretty and very appropriately themed, however, it's crowded and the tables are close together. The chairs are uncomfortable. It's a good spot to have drinks and dinner with family or friends but not for a romantic night out....
Not busy on a Sunday afternoon - still waited exceptionally long for service.
Only about 3 tables seated when we arrived- still were seated next to a large party with 3 babies 2 feet away from us. Then waited close to 30 minutes for our waitress to check on our meal after it arrived - never came to check on us. Just wanted our check after we finished. Waited so long that we had to ask the manager to get it for us. Really is no excuse for that to have happened.
Excited to try this place for the first time, my husband and I had a reservation for two. When we arrived at the place we can here music and people sitting outside enjoying there dinner. When we gave our name we were asked where we wanted to sit. Being that it was our first time we had no idea. We said whatever you recommend it’s our first time. The women who sat us shuffled us around for a minute or two then decided to seat us in the bar area. It was completely empty except for a table of 4. They sat us at a table right next to them for two people. The table was so small we had to put stuff on the table next to us. The air was on and blowing right on us. When we asked if we can move she told us this was all that was left. We watched people after people come in and were never seated in the bar area. I was very disappointed. We had a reservation so they couldn’t even say we were walk ins. My husband had the salmon and said it was good. I had chicken Parm and it was ok. I didn’t even take Home out left overs. Our appetizer was the only saving grace. Rice balls. Those were good. I ordered a dirty martini from the bar and it wasn’t even served in a martini glass. It was in a highball glass and tasted like straight olive juice. Overall we were not pleased with the place and would not return. It’s sad because we were exhumed to try it.
Been coming here for years. This past visit was a disappointment. I wanted gelato for dessert. When I asked the flavors, server told me he didnt know. So I offeRed to walk to the case with him and make my choice. He scoffed at me. Seriously?? Our bar charge was incorrect, more than double. It took them over 15 mins to rectify it. And not a small compensation as a thank you for us pointing out their programming error. Can only imagine how many others walked away paying more than double.
Our server was adequate but he seemed like we were bothering him. Polite, but no personality.
The prices are on the high side, but we like the vast selection and the outdoor dining. This past experience is having me question whether or not we will return
Always good and consistent food. Generous portions that never leave you hungry. Definitely one of our, "Go to" places to eat. Their bakery is awesome! My all time favorite is their red velvet cupcake. If you love a great cheese steak, walk around to their deli. Great paninis too.
Usually my husband and I come here with a coupon. Not for nothing, but Il Vecchio Cafe is a little pricey. Most meals are over $20 (chicken, fish, beef). The food is good, don't get me wrong, however I like to save the money so I can stop at the bakery afterwards :) -- and one glass of sangria was $9.50, that was a little shocking to me. But overall -- would recommend to anyone. Just be prepared for one dinner (sans appetizers mind you) to be around $70-$80 after tip.
The food and restaurant was excellent. The service was not, not sure if it was the time of day or what. We were not properly greeted, the waitress acted as if she was doing us a favour. I mentioned that we were there to celebrate our birthday, they did not even mention happy birthday,it would have been nice since I took out a friend for her birthday and so to comfort her in the loss of her grandmother.
I have been there before at a later time and service was much better.
This place is truly an escape! From the moment you enter, you are in their "world"! They have terrific dining rooms, the menu is diverse but authentic italian fare. They have on-site baking and pastries! I have hosted a birthday party here as well as casual family dining. The wait staff is busy but attentive. Be prepared to be there for a while - just because of the amount of food and options. You just want to stay and savor it all!
We used to love coming here. Brought our out-of-town granddaughters. Service was slow. When the food finally came, it was just terrible. The sauce on the pasta was gluey. Waiter didn't come back to see if we needed anything additional. It was a real disappointment. Then, when took our granddaughters into the bakery to each pick out a special treat to take home. The younger one picked out a cupcake. It was inedible and disgusting. We won't be back.
The food was good as always, but our service was incredibly slow. It seemed like our waitress kept forgetting about us. I think over two hours for dinner for two adults and one child is too long, especially because we just ordered salads and entrees, we did not even get dessert (including the dessert that is supposed to come with the kid's meal).
