Cagen Ratings and Reviews
This is my favourite sushi omakase spot in NYC. Besides the uninspiring decor, lack of waiting area, grumpy looking head chef/owner, the food is creative, great tasting and one-of-a-kind. Tomito-san serves many items that you wouldn’t find elsewhere; only super fresh, seasonal fish from Japan. Highly recommended if you are a sushi lover.
From the start, after making reservations they call you and see if you want to sit at the bar or stay at a table. I recommend the bar. We had one chef to 6 people and it was very personal and so enjoyable to watch how the chef preps the food. Everything was freshly cut and prepared in front of you and the chef picks his fish from the box. they recommend eating with your hand right from the dish and Before you know it the 16 course meal is over with. Very friendly staff, on point with refilling drinks. Service was phenomal.
Cant go wrong with any occasion. Definitely a place you need to try
Basic service and food ok. Ambiance not at par with similarly priced omakase places, and we have been to the best in town, and the ill attitude of the main chef deserves his relocation to Philadelphia or worse. Unacceptable and unprofessional with a lack of tack and elegance. His helper chef did not do much to cover the missteps. A disaster. Learn.
The restaurant is great overall. The service is courteous and fast, the food is fresh, and the ambiance is suitable. The value of omakase is almost good: the sushi is varied and delicious, but after tiny appetizer, 15 pieces of fish, and one small roll, the hunger was not completely satisfied. True to Japanese standarts, you will leave 70-80% full.
Thursday evening, first seating at 5:30, was running a bit late after getting stuck in traffic. Very accommodating with our lateness. ( We did notify them that we were running late). I will never get over how civil, no yelling to each other, the staff were. From the first course, (the egg custard), to the dessert (sorbet with a hint of wasabi) it was simply sublime. Clean flavors, amazing profiles, layered broths, the Wagu beef, sashimi, and sushi were all delicious, but the stand out for me was the simple elegance of the soba noodles and sea urchin sushi. Simply, delicious. My husband is now permanently Team Tomita! As am I!! Thank you!
Aweful! Terrible service. Check was brought like at a local diner, while we were eating dessert. They started cleaning up for the night as we were still eating. No one came once to ask how it was. Just aweful! Will never come back!
