About Caffe Valentino - Philadelphia
Beautiful Italian BYOB, and a staple for the last 7 years in the Pennsport area of South Philadelphia. Traditional cuisine and fresh pasta dishes are what make this little known gem so special. Formerly part of a trio of restaurants, Caffe Valentino now stands and shines alone after its new expansion: Caffe Valentino seats 45 downstairs in its rustic first floor dining room and a maximum of 100 guests in its elegant second floor dining room with full, open kitchen. If you haven't dined at Caffe Valentino before, it is a definite "must try" for your next dinner out or family gathering. Great for large groups as well as romantic dining.

Caffe Valentino - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
We've been to this restaurant more than a dozen times and have never had a problem with parking until Saturday night. Plenty of street parking, it was just holiday parties. So this is not a criticism. Food was very good, as always, and the service above expectations.
Thanks to Sam and his crew!
The experience at Cafe Valentino was fine. The food was good but not great. There was nothing remotely unique or inventive. We had the calamari appetizer and the branzino special. The fish was tasty and cooked nicely but served with a plate of salad( spinach/tomato/olives with too much oil and vinegar) as the only side. Might have been ok had I not had the exact same salad with calamari on it as an appetizer. A seasoned server should have recognized this and offered to change the sides on the special. I would return if I were hungry and in the neighborhood but would not travel to go there again.
Picked up our son and daughter-in-law at the airport at 5PM on a Friday and this ended up being the perfect place for a quiet dinner. The food was excellent; the wait-staff were great; and it's a nice option to to pick up a few good beers right across the street. The neighborhood is fun and parking was incredibly easy. I highly recommend giving Caffe Vallentino a try.
Valentino's remains my "go to" restaurant for traditional Italian food. Everyone is super friendly, excellent service, and very reasonable prices. This South Philly spot is a "great find" that consistently serves delicious standards. My friends, family, and colleagues all give Valentino's a thumbs up!
Kudos to Sammy, Frankie and Barbara for making each visit so pleasant; Cosimo and Heather for creating Caffe Valentino. Buon appetito!
This was a deeply disappointing meal. It's a cute place, and the service was pleasant, but the food was subpar, ranging from terrible (fried calamari, a weird sweet tomato cream sauce on a pasta special) to just okay (pizza). There are countless better options in that area.
Valentino's (BYOB) remains the "go-to" place for traditional Italian food. The entire staff is extremely friendly, excellent food and relaxing ambiance. If you are looking for a restaurant to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the experience, look no further.
Unfortunately I have to retract my previously glowing review. I was there with family for a small celebration dinner. The specials of the day sounded wonderful, but due to dietary and other restrictions, we asked very clearly if there was any pork or other kind of meat in the fusilli & salmon dish. The waiter/owner/manager (not sure which, but it was an older gentleman) said he would find out and went off, presumably to ask the chef. When he returned, he gave a wink and a smile and said "you're covered, no meat".
When the dinner arrived there was a strong smell of bacon, but we were assured it was just the smoked cheese in the dish. We ate and enjoyed the meal. There were leftovers, so we brought them home and I had them for lunch a couple days later.
Again the strong smell of bacon after it came out of the microwave oven. I started picking through the food and found pancetta (in other words, BACON) throughout. It was clear either the waiter didn't ask and just made up an answer, asked and didn't want to lose us ordering "the special" (always a higher price than the regular entrees), or thought we were idiots and wouldn't know the difference.
The truth of the matter is we trusted what he said and I guess that makes us idiots for not trusting our noses.
Regardless of ambiance, service, etc - if you can't trust what you're told is actually being served, you can't trust the restaurant.
Also interesting to note the restaurant did not respond to a private message about this.
If you're vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions, eat here at your own risk.
I went here for lunch for a reservation I made for a large group from work and it was excellent with large appetizers to share, etc. I came back for dinner (2 couples). The restaurant is tiny and the seating choices are somewhat limited - by the kitchen door or by the front door, or bathroom; we chose the front door, but one of the seats is "under" the counter that is the hostess area, so a bit tight. The waiter was excellent and it is a neighborhood gem for good food, but I think better for lunch than for dinner based on the setting. The staff is great and so is the food! I highly recommend this restaurant for large groups for dinner or lunch, as they have the ability to set up large tables within the small space. Perhaps opening up the upstairs for dinner guests if a banquet is not happening would provide more seating for couples or small groups for dinner.
What a fabulous surprise! The pizza is authentic, actually the closest we've been able to find to pizza in Italy! The burrata and arugula salad was excellent, simply dressed with lemon and olive oil. Our pastas were also perfectly prepared. The staff is very friendly and yet still professional. They seem to genuinely appreciate your business. Too bad we were only in town for a conference. We will return....
This is the 2nd time we visited this restaurant and once again very much enjoyed our experience. The food is outstanding as well as the service. We also enjoyed that fact that the restaurant is a BYOB. We ordered salads and an entree and finished off with coffee, cappachino and expresso. Each entree was prepared the way it was ordered and was delicious. We will definately be back when we return to the area.
A great restaurant, with friendly and attentive staff, and great food. The regular menu has some fantastic choices, plus the specials were unique and tasty. I really enjoyed how the waiter took the time to give us a great description of the days special, and made them sound so delicious. I enjoyed it even more when the ones we had ordered arrived at our table and more than lived up to his words. A great place for a night out.
Considering the 100% approval and 5 stars, my suggestions to the locals that clearly do not get fine dining, I suggest spending more time in Manhattan. I got a $40 pork chop that's was a terrible cut of meat and all fat. Flavors of the food was good but does not live up to the ratings, not even close. I like the staff. All has great personalities. I will be spending a lot more time in phili and I'm hoping to find better. I wouldn't go back.
The ambience and service were excellent. The special appetizers were enjoyed by everyone in our group - grilled octopus and barata. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, especially the homemad pasta with shrimp. The one person with the veal dish enjoyed the taste but the veal was a bit tough. Those that ordered the same dish with chicken enjoyed theirs. We were too filled for dessert since the portions were plentiful. Will definitely be returning to taste the pizza and desserts!
Cafe Valentino is an excellent neighborhood Italian BYOBbrestaurant. The specials are fresh and portions are plenty. As a family run restaurant the atmosphere is terrific. They also own the Pennsport beer graden across the street add will gladly bring pizza from the restaurant if requested
