What a lovely evening. This little gem occupies a corner on Washington and 3rd in South Philly. Parking on the street was not a problem. We were welcomed i and mmediately and shown to our table . We felt comfortable from the onset. The specials all sounded wonderful and we ordered the Pacchieri pasta which was clearly one of the best I've had. The Branzinio was prepared in the kitchen and served warm and over a delightfully dressed salad. We ordered dessert and were glad we did . The homemade cannoli was the best(maybe in the world) Look forward to returning. Oh, and this is a BYOB, but if you forgot your wine, they cordially offer a glass of their own wine!
As soon as we walked in, we saw a pile of chairs and boxes in the entrance and knew it was going to be a mess. After waiting 10 minutes a waiter walked by and we queried if someone could seat us. He growled, “in a minute, can’t you tell we’re a little busy?” At that point, we called an UBER, if the entrance and welcome was that unprofessional, I can only imagine what was going on behind closed doors.
I was disappointed that there was a limited menu on Valentine’s Day. The service was sub par and we waited awhile for every course. Not to mention the waiters seemed confused and in disarray. Our personal waiter appeared to be hopped up on so much cocaine he couldn’t sit still. Food was decent but not sure if I will be going back.
Wonderful Valentines Day dinner. Great food, wonderful service. A memorable evening.
Ate there 2/9/20 party of 10. My out of town cousins loved everything about this restaurant. The atmosphere was excellent we were treated like Kings and Queens. The food kept coming right out. Service was excellent. They made sure we were taken care of. Love this wonderful BYOB!
Food and service was excellent our party of 10 had a great time
This was a family dinner after a show at the Wachovia center. Classic S Phila Italian family owned restaurant with amazingly good food
FOOD AND PRICES ARE REASONABLE. SAM, OUR WAITER WAS OUTSTANDING
Made a reservation for my husband's birthday and was not disappointed. The friendliness of Cafe Valentino was immediate apparent, from the Pizza maker to the wait staff. The menu is mostly old word American-Italian with updated additions. There is recognizable vive here that says enjoy, don't hurry and engage! The Veal dish was outstanding as was the pasta Ameritrichiana . Salad selection seemed interesting. Parking on the street was not a hassle and we will definitely be back. And thanks toSam for his commitment to hard work and great service.
Loved the Fried Eggplant appetizer with a balsamic reduction. Delish. Salmon and veal were excellent. Service was great, everyone there was attentive and quick.
This little out of the way restaurant caught my attention in looking at many for Restaurant Week.
Most did not make the cut. This menu looked wonderful and since I prefer small restaurants, we made reservations for the four of us. We have never been served with such grace and warmth. We ordered a margarita pizza first, just to taste their pizza. Excellent. Two orders of veal Milanese were savored, on Salmon, and one Branzino filetted at table side. Both excellent and beautifully seasoned. The desserts were stars as well. As we had been greeted, we were leaving as if we were long time friends.
No wonder it was dinner's choice.
The atmosphere is warm and the staff makes the dining experience a wonderful one. They are attentive and kind. The food is all homemade. Italian specialties are created with love.
Tommy and Cozimo were awesome as well as the entire Waite staff.
Wonderful food, staff, service.
Excellent food and service. If definitely go back here again!
Excellent food and great service! Never a bad meal. Love this place!
Great service, Great food. Gonna make it a regular
Local restaurant with engaging service staff. The portions were ample , varied and properly prepared
Food was great tasting. Specials a little pricey for the amount on plate. All in all I would return again!
Pregame sixers family dinner! Best meal ever every time!
This was my 2nd visit to Valentino's. First time, the food was very good. As was this visit. The problem came in when we were completely ignored for the the larger parties thatwere in the house. It seems you become insignificant to the waiters. We ( 2 of us) entered the restaurant at 6:45pm..15 minutes early. We were seated by 7pm. They took our wine and returned it in a chilled..Perfect! Then... that is where it went wrong for the remainder of our visit. A waiter came to take our order about 15 minutes after that. I asked if the vegetables in my order could be replaced with pasta. He said yes, he said that he would just place it in a side bowl. What actually took place was I was charged $8.00 for a side of pasta. We were then given tiny slices of bread in a basket with no butter about 10 minutes after the waiter took our order. Our appetizer was brought to the table about 20 minutes later. This where it got to be ridiculous....we never spoke to anyone for another 30 minutes. That was when they took our plates from the appetizer. Our main course came 15 minutes after that..cold!!! They came to collect our plates when I finished eating the cold fish and crab after about 20 minutes. That was decent timing. THEN, my wife asked for Tira Misu..mistake! That took another 10 minutes to receive. We asked for the check as we were receiving our Tira Misu. He returned in 15 minutes with our check. We signed the check and gave him our credit card. He returned immediately...I'm supposing that had to do with the people waiting at the doorway??? This was our 47th wedding anniversary and I wanted to take her somewhere special, instead it was a terrible experience which took well over 2 hours to receive cold food...a charge for spaghetti that was not suppose to be a separate dish, but a replacement for the vegetables. I had numerous Italian Restaurants to choose from that we've been to before..Lamberti's Caffe in Cherry Hill, Nunzio's in Collingswood, but we sadly chose yours!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in South Philadelphia. Good, service, or fiance, it's so fabulous! It is a must stop! Do yourself a favor and book a table now!!
Always love taking friends to this restaurant especially introducing new people! The service and the food are excellent! It’s BYOB which keeps the price tag down. I just can’t say enough ...been here so many times and it never gets old!! 💕
Food and service outstanding as always.
Sam and the team were wonderful...as usual...and the food really could not have been more of South Philly comfort Italian! You're not just a patron...you're "family"!!!
Love this place! Pizza and pasta is great!
Second visit for us. Sam is the perfect server. Gracious, knowledgeable, helpful. We recommend listening closely to the specials as they are the best, and most creative, choices. Remember to bring your wine!!
A group of us (10) were here for a birthday celebration. It took 30 minutes for a waiter to bring us menus and bread. The overall service was slow/poor. Two members of the group had a slight diet restriction. One cannot have black pepper. Despite making an explicit request, the Caesar salad arrived with pepper. Another member is allergic to broccoli. We were told that the vegetable of the evening was zucchini - so obviously there was no issue. But, when the main course was served, all of our plates arrived with broccoli. Overall the food was not well presented and was rather bland. Our experience was not very good - which is unfortunate since it is a neighborhood restaurant and I like supporting local businesses. We will probably not return.
Great food, great staff, great service! Caffe Val recently underwent some minor changes to their decorations and setup, which took a bit away from the rustic and romantic ambience, but overall still a great visit!
Great Service great food . Sam the waiter is excellent. The dinner and appetizer specials are always great!
We were seeing a movie in the South Philadelphia neighborhood and wanted a light wonderful meal and we remembered that Caffe Valentino and it’s chef/proprietor Cosimo and his wife, Heather are wonderful hosts.
Dinner was top notch... but even better was their warm welcome and graciousness.
We can’t wait to go back.
Bring your wine!
Or cross the street to their beer garden, and buy a couple of bottles.
OK place, some of the food is fine! Get one of the nightly specials.
The food is always delicious and the service from Sam and the rest of the staff is top notch.
Loved loved LOVED this place. Authentic Italian the way it should be. Food was outstanding. Only thing better is the staff and owner....make you feel like family. This is my new "go to" spot. Absolutely love their food...from appetizer to dessert. If I could give SIX stars I would!
Great local find. Just moved around the block and had a terrific time - great food, service and a fun spot.
Sam and the crew are always warm and welcoming. Food is always delicious. Can’t beat the value, it’s a BYOB.
Exceptional food and service in a friendly warm atmosphere, with Italian music playing in the background!
Great food , service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend to family and friends. Definitely would go back.
.Excellent service, warm environment and outstanding food! We can’t wait to go back!
