Service was good and the food at the time seemed tasty but my daughter and I had a really bad reaction to the bucatini sauce. Also there was gum on one of the chairs which got on my wife’s pants and other than giving us some ice to help clean it they did not seem very concerned. My son ordered chicken parm which came way after the other food. He had to ask three times to get it. We will not return.
I would have rated it one star but the salmon was the one excellent meal.
Two stars for two reasons. Service was terrible - we weren't greeted when we came in, no one seemed to want to help us. Service was very slow and we waited forever after our plates were cleared until we finally got up to find our server to ask for a dessert menu. We ordered 2 mains which we thought would be enough food for the 3 of us. They were both fairly small plates. $28 for 8 ravioli! Some of the plates had enough food for 2-3 people so it's hard to know how much to order. Wish our server had been more on it. The food was tasty and well prepared.
It was our one year anniversary and they were very nice!!
It's been 20 years since I've been here and on this occasion I wanted to take my daughter and her friends for dinner. Between the 4 of us we shared a shrimp Alfredo, Petrale Sole, a small salad and a glass of Prosecco for me. It was just enough food and we were happy. This was a Monday night and the place was not busy but the ambience is fun and we had a lovely time.
Love coming to Caffe Sport! A great staple in the neighborhood and outstanding food every single time. I always take people who are visiting to this restaurant.
Good food and service. The waiter was very corteus.
Hair in food. Terrible waitress. Food tasted like rubber.
Dine here ‘cuz walking distance to Beach Blanket Babyon Show at 8pm.
The food and the service are both excellent. The waiter was the best I have ever had. The caprese salad was so delicious and the mushroom risotto was cooked by someone who knows exactly what they are doing. I have always walked past this restaurant while going to some of my favorite go to restaurants. This is my new go to restaurant. I can't wait for the weekend when I can go again. Do not miss out on this restaurant, there is no alternative to this kind of food and service. You will not find this quality anywhere else.
My husband had Scampi Al Antonio which was not as hearty as remembered, less garlic and thinner sauce. Good nevertheless. I hadcthe cioppono and it was fabulous! Ordered the Rosso from the menu but requested it fra diavlo. Chef complied with the request and delivered a hearty, heaping cioppino that is the stuff memories are made of. Amazing lunch!
The food was wonderful. The service was good but I would have enjoyed myself more IF it had been warmer,no HEAT.
We have gone to Caffe Sport now for over 30 years. Still good and will go back again...
The food is decadent and the service was outstanding! Glad to see that quality has not changed throughout the years.
The service here was outstanding. Friendly, attentive and nicely done.
We had a reservation for 8:15 pm and the place was mobbed. We were seated, however within 10 min and the food was very good. I had antipasti of eggplant rolled with prosciutto in marinara sauce and it was as large as an entree. My friend had ricotta stuffed ravioli and Stated that it was excellent.
Jose our server was very attentive and very good at taking care of us. This is a much go to if you are visiting the city. Food was outstanding.
Caffe Sport is a quirky little Italian restaurant in North Beach. The atmosphere is fun and the food is
great - served family style so you have a chance to try several dishes based on the size of your party.
We had burrata to start followed by spaghetti and meatballs, chicken parmigiana, mushroom risotto and gnocchi - I loved them all! We'll definitely return.
Ambience was fun. Waiters were nice.
Great place. It is what it is.
Fond memories of coming here when getting a table was impossible and the waiters were rude. It’s been many years. Nice to see you can now make reservations on Open Table and pay with a credit card. Family style dinners and large portions make this perfect for groups. I don’t think the menu has changed ever. Come here if you’re looking for heart servings of your favorite pasta dishes and reasonably priced Chianti. Come on out of the rain and have a cozy Italian meal.
The food was fabulous!! Four people split three entrees - plenty of food. The minestrone was the best we have had in a restaurant.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful.
Can't wait to go back!
We went to Caffe Sport for dinner with a couple we'd never met before; part business, mostly social, so we were hoping for a spot where we could sit and get to know each other. Food was excellent but the service was impeccable. When we asked about different wines, the waiter volunteered to give us a tasting; we tried four wines, all good but one excellent and we bought that bottle. They gave us plenty of time to order and advised us because two of us are gluten free and one is a strict vegetarian. Food (again, excellent) came not too rushed not too pokey. Admittedly it was not too busy that night but we were very happy that they let us sit and chat to our hearts content and left at 9:30, four hours later! There is no question that we will be back!
Interesting decor but overall experience, poor. Although restaurant empty upon arrival at 4:45, we were an intrusion upon 3 restaurant workers at the bar. A bottle of spray cleaner and towel were not removed from bar site until mentioned 3/4 way through the meal. Server was ok, at best, upon being seated. Food very average and in San Francisco... this is highly unusual. Very disappointed and would not return.
Have had numerous positive past experiences, but we entered with reservations and a group.
There were three groups that came in after us without reservations and they were not only served before us, they finished their meals in the two hours we waited for our meal.
They also ran out of bread, then finally served us some stale bread.
It was a disappointing experience for such a traditionally wonderful iconic SF restaurant.
Pilot on a work trip on Christmas Eve. Wanted to take my copilot to a good restaurant, and knew Caffe Sport would not disappoint. We ordered a lot of food and ate like kings. Good service, also. Highly recommended.
The Cioppino was outstanding; a little disappointed in the pesto pasta--no pine nuts, no pecorino and a little grassy flavor
José , the maitre dee was the Best!!
We had an8:30 reservation but the table was not quite ready.
He got us comfortable and comped us some wine and san pelligrino for our son. He really took care of us until our table was ready. He made our night....
thanks!! ... food was really good as well.
Family style goodness!
There was a long wait despite a reservation but service staff (Jose) was awesome, offered us wine while we waited and even gave us directions to cable car. The food was outstanding!
Mediocre food and absolutely one of the rudest servers I’ve ever had in my 50 years of life!!! We will never return and would NEVER recommend this restaurant!
Old school Italian in eclectic North Beach setting. Years go by between visits but I have never had a disappointing meal here. Dishes are rich and filling and are not for the diet conscious. I typically ask the waiter to bring me whatever is freshest in a pasta dish. Good Brushetta and garlic bread. Decent wine selection at fair prices. Services is always attentive without hovering or intrusions. Reservations a must. Fun to walk around North Beach Area after a nice meal.
Ambience was lovely - but service was slow (even though it was not crowded) and food only "so, so." Some of the menu items were better than others.
Food was ok. Service was nonexistent. Would not be going back
I have been coming to Caffe Sport for years. One of my all time favorite restaurants. Went to celebrate my 34th on 12/12. Amazing as always
Given that our reservation was at 3:30 and there was nobody in the restaurant, service was unbelievably slow and inattentive. Food was very disappointing as well.
I ordered 1 item to go when we put our orders in. I had to ask for my take out FOUR TIMES during the end of our meal. AND, the waiter forgot to give me my credit card back. I walked out of the restaurant with out. We were with a large group so I did not realize it until it hit me with we got to our car.
Great dinner after the theater. Service was spot on and the homemade pasta was excellent. Great atmosphere. Cannot go wrong here.
I was slightly disappointed with the lobster ravioli because there were no chunks of lobster, and you can barely taste the lobster in it. Also, I was also slightly disappointed with my penne cream sauce plate that was supposed to come with shrimp and scallops. You can barely tell there were any scallops
Absolutely some of the most delicious Italian food I’ve ever tasted!! I’d never eaten at a Sicilian style Italian restaurant. It has a bit of a kick in the meat sauce that is GREAT. My daughter’s gnocchi al pesto was just the right firmness with no mushy gnocchi. My hubby got one of their specialties of the house, the Rusticate pasta (penne with seafood in a Alfredo & marinara sauce...so seriously good!). I had good ole fashioned spaghetti & meatballs. It was such a large portion with 3 big meatballs. And Sooooo good!
