Excellent food and service. Very authentic Italian cuisine. Not touristy and quiet enough you can actually have a conversation with your party. Great to take friends or just a delicous meal out.
We loved it!
We totally enjoyed the entire experience. From the food to the ambiance and the service it was just fabulous.
Caffe Macaroni is charming, authentic and the food is delicious. Mario is the perfect host and the restaurant is a genuine North Beach treasure, with unique southern Italy cuisine and great ambiance.
Awesome!! The food, service and atmosphere were all fantastic!!
We had wonderful service and delicious food here. I love that this is a stalwart neighborhood staple with great southern Italian food. We were greeted in such a friendly way.
Food was just ok. Ambiance was below expectation.
Great little place, and I do mean little - not the place for large groups as there are only 5 tables downstairs and an upstairs that I didn't see. The food was delicious, but the best part is the owner - he takes orders, serves and even crafted a dish on the fly for my friend who couldn't find what he was looking for on the menu. Very enjoyable experience!
Recommended to us by a close friend and we were so glad that we went. Food was fresh and delicious and the service was very attentive.
Met up with friends and dined upstairs. The only warning is for the ceiling height upstairs (if you are over 6'-0" you will have to duck!!!). Kind of fun though. They don't have a kids menu, but spaghetti and marinara or their Margherita pizza works in a pinch!
service was real good small space but food was real good
Very Old school San Francisco just a blast from the past like the godfather movies
Caffe Macaroni is a tremendously personal experience. The food is fantastic, of course. But what sets it apart is the intimate setting that brings patrons and owners together, as if eating at a close friend's dinner table rather than a typical restaurant.
Love this place
Very nice Italian restaurant very close to a Italy adventure. Enjoyable solid evening.
Smaller than usual restaurant, but a great place with great food and service.
Fabulous, a memorable spot dripping with character. Very special one of a kind feeling. Thank you Mario for a beautiful evening.
This was our first time at his restaurant. What a gem. Very small only 4 tables downstairs and same upstairs. The kitchen is open to dining area, the owner is the one who takes your order. They have a very wide varieties of Pastas, mostly with red sauce since, since this is a Neapolitan restaurant. I had Parpadele with wild mushrooms sauce. That was incredible. My husband a Mix Pasta with peppers, sausages in a red sauce. It was outstanding also. Make sure to reserve a table and get there, and if you can get there early I recommend that too.
I can't wait to go back there.
Food and wine was absolutely phenomenal. Authentic dining experience with an amazing chef and server. Would recommend to anyone who loves homemade Italian food.
A North Beach friend recommended Caffe Macaroni- a hidden gem we might not have otherwise enjoyed. Tiny, cozy and delicious!
The food is always killer here and the restaurant is so darling! Mario is the perfect host of his restaurant!
Amazing place- amazing delicious top notch food, great ambiance. great owners - they make it:) all around 💃🏼
This is the best restaurant in San Francisco. Period. I’ve eaten high end, low end, local dive, tourist favorites, SF classics. None beats Caffe Macaroni. The menu always changes, the dishes are excellent but never have too much going on. The wine list isn’t crazy and has reasonably priced options. The desserts are fantastic. And the service and welcoming atmosphere are just awesome. Best. Restaurant. In. San. Francisco.
Caffe' Macaroni is our favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco! It is a small neighborhood gem, where the owners Mario and Stephanie provide amazing food and a wonderful experience. There is an extensive menu, as well as half a dozen specials every day that Mario will explain to you. There is also a great wine list with many reasonably priced choices. Highly recommended!!!
A small, superb restaurant. Our favorite restaurant, by far, in San Francisco.
This was a wonderful intimate meal. The owner was right there answering questions and telling stories. Be prepared to share space with other couples, but that was part of the charm for us. If you want privacy, go somewhere else. If you want a fun personal experience with amazing food, this is the place.
cozy, you absolutely feel you are in Italy and the food taste that good!
The proprietor was friendly, the food was fresh tasting and we sat outside on a gorgeous San Francisco night. Who could ask for more?
We used to dine often at Caffe Macaroni before we moved to the east coast. My husband remarked that their sauce reminds him of his nonni's (grandmother) sauce. So we made plans to come back since we were in town. Still as delicious as ever with friendly, prompt service! The olive oil with garlic dip they serve with the bread is worth the trip alone.
So much fun! The owners and staff are amazing and the food is unreal. Order all the desserts.
Inlove this place. Been there 3 or 4 times in the last few months. The burrata salad has been exquisitly fresh and the wine list tho short is good on variety and price. Usually quite a few specials and everything has been tasty. My favorite Italian place right now.
Fantástica comida. Música mexicana de muy buen gusto.
Disappointed because I specifically requested a table upstairs, but they refused and sat us in a crowded corner booth. I was excited for the ink pasta, but it lacked any flavor. I would be shocked if it wasn’t just premade dried store bought pasta. Was disappointed overall with the price and the quality. The owners were lovely though... I just wish the food was better.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary and I have to say the most romantic restaurant in the City, with the most wonderfully authentic Italian cuisine. Highly recommended and will definitely return.
I visited this place based on many positive reviews and I would give it an average rating. We made a reservation and arrived on time. I started to walk in the door behind a waitress that was waiting on a table outside. I figured I needed to check in. She turned around and rudely asked "can I help you" as though I was intruding or doing something wrong. I told her we had a reservation and she rudely told me should couldn't help me but the owner Mario would be down when he could to handle things. I'd have been okay with it had she been nice about it. It was an immediate turn off. It didn't take long and we were seated. The place is small both upstairs and down. It's very loud too so if you are trying to have a conversation, it may pose a challenge if you don't hear well. Our waiter was very nice and worked to take care of us. Mario and the rude woman were visible but were very focused on catering to specific customers and never came to our table as mentioned by many in the reviews. The food we had was decent but I sadly I can get just as good or way better at a local family run Italian establishment in my hometown. I would tell others who may be considering dining there is that it will be average and manage your expectations accordingly. It has been around for a long time so a bit of a fixture for that neighborhood. Definitely an interesting experience though I'm not sure I would make it a priority to return.
We love Caffe Macaroni! I can honestly say that everything on the menu is excellent. The owners, Mario and Stephanie are so welcoming and eager to make each dining experience one to remember. The chicken scallopini is one of our favorites but you cannot go wrong with any of the specials. Fresh fish and produce hand selected from local merchants. Be sure to save room for the in-house made desserts.
Food was amazing!! Mario, the owner, was exceptional and his lovely wife as well definitely have the Calamari’s they are out of this world! Everything else is just as good!!!!
Incredible. Nothing could be better. Perfection.
We loved our experience! Everyone was speaking Italian, the atmosphere was cozy, and the food was delicious. Be warned that it is loud, but it has great people watching, and everything we ate was fantastic... especially the lentil soup and gnochi.
Great food, congenial host, authentic cuisine. Try it, you will not be sorry!
