Caffe Luna is a gem. This long standing restaurant in downtown Raleigh never disappoints. The quality of the food is outstanding and the prices extremely reasonable. In addition the R Line downtown bus loop goes right by so it’s convenient for Duke Energy Center if you give yourself enough time. Well worth it.
Caffe Luna continues to be a perfect Raleigh lunch or dinner destination for any occasion.
We love it for many many reasons, including proximity to Duke Energy Concerts. The proprietor
and his son and family are perfect hosts and the kitchen and wait staff are exceptional. Luna always hits the highest marks. It is a pleasure to dine there.
We have been to Cafe Luna many times and our recent night out with friends did not disappoint. While there are many great items on the menu, my husband and I absolutely LOVE the tomato based sauces. Food was excellent, service was great, and the prices are reasonable. The ambience is also perfect and the atmosphere versatile. We would feel comfortable on a date night, with kids, casual or dressy, small or large groups. Can't wait to go back!
We had not been to Caffe Luna for several years as we thought it was so-so, but a friend wanted to go. It was worse than we had expected. THe chicken and roast potatoes dish had overcooked chicken and potatoes that looked like they had been frozen. The scallops and spinach dish was horrible. I ordered a bottle of chianti classico reserva, but the bottle that was brought to the table was not a reserva. I questioned the waitress, who insisted that it was what I ordered because it said Toscana wine (although several bottles were from Toscana). It was not a reserva. Service was okay; nothing special. Will definitely not be going back.
As usual we had excellent service and consistently great food! Love the fiocchi for something a little different than anywhere else. It is a little loud there in there with the high ceilings and wood floors, but lively and festive. They got us out of there in time for our concert at Meymandi and started a nice evening for us.
We had to ask for water, coffee and tea refills. One of our orders was wrong so our party was unable to eat at the same time. There was an older gentleman walking around asking ladies if everything was good but he walked around our table several times and never asked us.
Caffe Luna is Raleigh's classic Italian restaurant. Pasta is the star, from mild vegetarian dishes to smoking hot Fra Diavola (as hot as you want). Start your evening antipasti; I never miss Calamari Fritti, the best I've had anywhere. If I don't skip salad, my 2 favorites are "Insalata del Pastore" Goat Cheese, Walnuts & Greens" or "Insalata con Gorgonzola". If you're not into pasta, menu Entres include Italian spiced veal, chicken or rib-eye, plus selections of seafood: shrimp, salmon, & tuna. I grew up on the coast, so I'm here Luna's fresh seafood. But, like I said, pasta is the star & I have two favorites: "Linguine Pescatore" (Calamari, Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, & Scallops in Olive Oil & Tomato). It's mild (not spicy) but tasty, with lots of seafood (hence I skip the salad!). Then there's killer "Linguine Fra Diavolo" (shrimp in SPICY Tomato Sauce over Linguini). Now, Parker Kennedy thinks that "SPICY in bold letters is sufficient warning that this dish is HOT - but, beware. "Diavolo" translate literally to devil or hell, so you can add heat to suite your ego. I love Fra Diavolo, but 2-3 years ago Parker snuck a plate to me that made my ear lobes sweat. I sheepishly sent it back & swore it off (I'm getting old). If Parker isn't guarding the kitchen, I still order it for old times sake. As for the rest of Luna's pasta dishes, if it has seafood I've eaten it & it's great. I like "Taglioline del Golfo" (shrimp), "Tortelli Crostacci" (lobster, crab & prawns - fancy name for shrimp), "Fantasia di Mare" (grouper & diced shrimp) & Penne Capesanti (scallops). Desserts: CHOCOLATE describes "Irish Bash": dark chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream covered with chocolate sauce. I know there are other desserts, ask my wife. Have dessert with coffee or a glass of port. Luna's wine list is NOT OVERPRICED & has some great selections. It took me 10 years to talk Parker into expanding his beer options to include local brews AND Highland Gaelic Ale!!!
Food used to be better lady two times food is cold or very little is on your plate. The calamari was cold
And not cooked thoroughly. The breading fell off the pieces as soon as you picked it up my
Salmon was not fresh probably frozen and a small small piece with 3 slices (as thin as you can make it) of a zucchini and squash. Very disappointing won’t be back anytime soon. Food has gone way down in quality
This is a jewel of a restaurant. The food is fabulous with variety and excellence, the wine list extensive and well priced, the service is friendly and Parker ( the owner ) is visible and welcoming to all. The atmosphere is sophisticated city, without the phony. Just a great place to dine, no matter what time of the day.
Waiter was attentive. Food was good and served in an appropriate time. I had the fish special and my spouse had the steak. Both were good I thought. Water was filled often and dishes cleared in a timely fashion. The owner thanked us for coming out to his establishment.
