Caffe Gelato celebrates its 17-year anniversary. For lunch, look forward to trying our pressed panini on fresh baked sea-salt and rosemary foccacia, the featured salads, or a house crafted pasta. At dinner try the Herb Roasted Rack of Lamb, Pecan Crusted Salmon, Cider Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Pan Roasted Local Free-Range Chicken or any of our 6 House Crafted Pasta dishes. Weekend Brunches feature omelets, crepes, poached eggs, and Creme Brulee French Toast. Favorite gelato flavors are Bacio (Chocolate Hazelnut), Crème Brûlée Toffee, Dark Chocolate, and Stracciatella (Chocolate Chip).
I had never been to cafe gelato but have always heard good things. When we walked in the ambiance was really pretty and great for a date night, the music choice was pretty odd. Very clubby sounding. We ordered drinks and they were very weak and tasted like flavored water. Our calamari appetizer was decent but nothing special. When our pasta dishes came out I can honestly say they were the worst, most bland pasta I have ever tasted. Boxed pasta and a jar of sauce from the grocery store at home would have been better. It was not what we expected for a nicer date night out and we will not be going back.
Graduation from police academy
Great night. Food was terrific and our server was really good.
Excellent food, and the Wed BOGO special made the evening very affordable. o
Our waitress was wonderful.
Tuesday lunch is half off all pasta offerings, which we did. Tasty and a really good value.
Amazing experience and friendly service
We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed our Brunch
Joined a friend for Sunday brunch. We had a lovely breakfast on the patio. Service was great and the food was light and very good. It was a Sunday morning in July so noise level and foot traffic were low. Overall great.
Service staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. But food preparation and presentation was disappointing. Italian dinners lose something when served in bowls (vs plates) - not mentioned on the menu when we ordered.
I got the special salad with boat scallops and there were only two scallops on the salad...very disappointing. When my meal was brought out, the waitress took my parmesan fries without even asking if I was finished, which I was not. After waiting for 20 minutes for our bill, we got up and walked in the restaurant to pay at the register by the gelato. They were very slow, so I saw now reason for it to take this long. The salad and and the fries did taste good.
good as always except they ran out of scallops, my favorite dish there ever :(
Enjoyed our meal and series’s great. Can’t wait to return!
The food was great and reasonably priced for the quality. Our service was horrible though. There was a large party in the back room and we were completely ignored the entire night. Our hour dinner turned into two hours due to the 20 mins we had to wait for our server to return in between each course. Will NOT be returning.
One of our favorite spots, generally. Top of the line food, usually very good service. Unfortunately on this day, our server Matthew although very pleasant, was below par for Gelato. My dad was served an obvious 1/2 a bread stick, while the rest of us received a full stick, three things were forgotten, my father's dinner portion was noticeably very small .
I had ordered the same dish he had lasted th and it was much bigger . Dinner took over an hour to be brought. Everyone is entitled to a bad day and it won't deter our visits. Unfortunate though.
We went for my significant others birthday and I cannot rave about the restaurant enough. Everything was great, they even gave us a free dessert as it was her birthday. Food was great, huge portions and attentive service. To top it off we were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable cost.
Casa de Mar was dry at restaurant, but after reheating in microwave, perfect moisture level. Gelato dessert was great. Calamari was chewy but flavorful. Ceasar salad and crock of onion soup were tasty and perfect.
Buyer beware. I was very disappointed with the false advertising special menu. Wednesday is 1/2 off glasses of wine, confirmed by our waiter. When our bill came our 4 glasses were at full price. I asked our waiter, he then went on to say only if you sit at the bar or front patio? Owners, why would that matter? Do not hand me the special menu prices if I am sitting in doors at a table. Please explain?
I hope this one experience for my birthday dinner proves to be a one-off. We have always loved the food, the atmosphere and the service, except this meal. The service and atmosphere were spot-on, but the food was lacking. Our appetizer of steamed clams, lacked flavor as did my favorite main dish of the lump crab and shrimp cappelini with crab rosa sauce. The crab and shrimp were fine and the cappelini was cooked perfectly, but the sauce lacked flavor. It tasted like tomatoes, yes, but that's about it. Our desserts were outstanding, as always. I did find it a little odd that the "featured" creme brulee flavor was vanilla, when the "regular" flavor is always vanilla.
I do believe in giving people and restaurants a second chance and since this was our first "bad" experience, we will be back . Hopefully things will turn out better next time.
The menu had a nice selection for brunch. I ordered Eggs Benedict. However my friend had a chicken panini and it had a fish smell to it, almost as if the chicken was cooked where fish had previously been on the grill. Our service started off good, once we got our food we didn’t see our server for at least 20 minutes. We had finished our meals and was waiting for our checks for a while. One of my guest went inside to use the restaurant and said the restaurant wasn’t busy inside, and wondered why we weren’t being waited on.
Waiter was terrible. We sat for about 15 minutes before order was taken. Food was really good but our waiter was a no show. Had to get another 1 to check us out.
Great lunch for sons graduation from UD, everyone loved their meal and the service was great. We were a party of 8 and sat in a room just for us. Would definitely go back, just sorry I found it when he was graduating and not sooner.
They did a great job!
We've been coming to occasionally visit our son at UDelaware over the past 4 years. We look forward to getting a reservation at cage Gelato because we enjoy the sophisticated food and attentive service. Also, we appreciated fitting us in at 9;30pm as we were delayed driving in from NY and liked the thoughtfulness added to the graduation mug. Will be telling family members who will be at UDelaware where to go eat. Thanks and will miss you
Graduation Dinner. An entre (Lobster Ravoli) was over cooked
Owner was seating us and kept forgetting about us despite a reservation and sat others before us. Bar took 20 min to deliver my drink. Food, shrimp and crab capellini, was good but too much sauce and very rich but that might just be me.
Good ambience and beautiful space. Our server Dylan was terrific and had to keep apologizing for things that were way out of his control!
The restaurant was overcrowded and very loud. Our reservation was for a party of 4 and we were seated at a table for 2 with added chairs. The restaurant was clearly overbooked.
Excellent service and atmosphere!
The food and drinks were excellent -- all nine of us enjoyed our meals. The service was outstanding -- which was amazing since it was such a busy day. I had to give the noise level a maximum rating -- but only because it was graduation weekend at the University of Delaware and the restaurant was packed full! Overall a terrific experience. I highly recommend Caffe Gelato!
Very high prices for food that is below par. I ordered the Veal chop and for 39 dollars it was almost all fat and hard to chew. Heard good things about the place so wanted to try it but was very disappointed.
Did was really good. Great flavor combinations and good ingredients. The truffle fries with Parmigianno Regianno were amazing, and the pasta was really good. The desserts were also very tasty.
Great specials and service. Definitely worth the trip
I had a wonderful brunch at Cafe Gelato! The food was outstanding. The service was friendly and professional. We will definitely be going back!
Amazing food and service. Great place for dinner with friends!
We chose Caffe Gelato for my daughter's 20th birthday because of their vegetarian menu on their website, and the fact that they had gluten free pasta available. She is a gluten intolerant vegetarian. When we arrived and asked for the vegetarian menu, we were told they no longer have one. Unfortunately, ALL of the entrees on the menu contained either meat or seafood or gluten or both. For instance, tortellini was vegetarian but not gluten free. The wait staff did not offer us any options at all, so we had to ask them to go back to the chef and find out what sauces were gluten free to pair with gluten free pasta. We finally figured out something that they could make, but only due to our creativity, not their service. This was not what I was hoping for for my daughter's birthday. We purposely chose this place because (based on their online vegetarian menu) we thought that they had standard offerings that would work for a gluten intolerant vegetarian. I always try to choose a place where she can feel normal and order for a menu just like anyone else, and not have to go through all of the questioning and planning. On top of that, we waited over an hour for our food!!! Oh, and when they brought everyone else bread before the meal, they told us they do have gluten-free roll they can bring out, but it would take extra time and they charge extra for it. Maybe they could have offered her the gluten-free roll for free for her birthday?! There was no offer of any free dessert or anything for her birthday, not even a birthday wish, even though the special occasion was listed as part of the reservation. My 9 year old did not like the kids' ravioli at all - it was rather bitter. We asked for plain pasta with butter instead. Entrees were not particularly generous in size and not particularly tasty, with the exception of my son's beef tenderloin tips over pasta, which was very good. Side salads are not included with the pasta entrees. I expected more based on its good reviews.
Great Brunch experience!!
Sasha was a great server! The food was unbelievable!
Great meal and atmosphere would definitely go back
Great dinner out with my family. The food was very good. The service was good. I had the rack of lamb and it was tasty. The other adults had lobster ravioli and they said it was the best they’ve had. The only issue was they forgot to make my nephew’s pizza. It took quite a while for it to come out and my food was a little cold while I waited for his.
The first time we went to Cafe Gelato, we loved the food, the service was mediocre, but the waitress was new, so we decided to give it another chance. We went for Mother’s Day. I made an Open Table reservation weeks in advance and followed up with a phone call to make sure the time our reservation was not brunch. The person who answered the phone said brunch would be over at 3:00, our reservation was for 3:15 so we would have the regular dinner menu. I asked if there was a limited menu because of the holiday and was told it would be a regular dinner menu. We received a call at 2:50 asking if we could come in at 3, or wait until 4. I said I would come at 3 as long as it was the dinner menu. That was when I was told dinner wasn’t served until 4. Needless to say I was not happy. We had traveled for 2 hours to visit my daughter at U Del, with my elderly parents, and were not happy with the delay. When we arrived, the manager apologized, but did not offer us a free appetizer, or drink to make up for the 45 minute delayed reservation. Then we found out it was a limited menu for the holiday.
The food was ok. My mother and I had the tortellini with beef tips and it lacked flavor. When we were there previously my daughter had the same dish and it was much better.
Over all, it was just ok, service was not great, our waitress had more tables on the other side of the restaurant, so we didn’t see her too much. The appetizer and salads came out at almost the same time, we were rushed. So we will try something new next time we visit.
Even though it was a busy Mother's Day brunch time, we received excellent service, relatively short wait time for the table, short wait time for the food. And the food was great as usual. Ryan (the owner) stopped by our table to chat a couple of times.
The new interior at Caffe Gelato is quite attractive. On what was both a very rainy day and a very busy day (Mother's Day) we had a wonderful brunch. Thank goodness we had made reservations because CG was full. However, this did not impact either the food quality or the service. Both were excellent!
