Favorite gelato flavors are Bacio (Chocolate Hazelnut), Crème Brûlée Toffee, Dark Chocolate, and Stracciatella (Chocolate Chip).
Great Italian. Super value on Sundays w/ 1/2 off pastas.
Excited to visit after the renovation and so happy that the charm and feel of the place stayed the same, just better. Enjoyed a great brunch as always and the crepes are a special treat since most restaurants don't offer them. The menu for brunch offers something for everyone so be prepared to make some tough decisions or plan your next visit to try something new. We didn't get a chance to sample something from the new pizza oven but can't wait to try it.
Our seating was cramped, wait staff could barely get by, and we were on the way to the kitchen so everyone had to pass by our table. One bumped into my chair and another reached down and pushed a plate to the center of our table so he could pass. It was not a good experience. The food was average, but nothing special. Our waitress was very attentive and did a good job, but the environment was not conducive to a nice meal out with my spouse. Pretty sure I drank a skunked Peroni beer too.
Great food, good combinations and wine. Gelato is always excellent.
I had the chicken and it was very dry. Wasn't a good deal for the money
Excellent food and they had homemade gluten-free bread. A wonderful surprise!!
Extremely enjoyable valentines dinner with my wife.
Just not for Valentines day. Perhaps other days it would be ok.
We were there for the Valentine's Day special dinner (available all week), which was wonderful.
As always, we like almost all the nice servers in Gelato. We had Jay this time, he was excellent.
The new décor is very pleasing. Good job, Ryan.
We had a delicious birthday dinner.
This was the best meal we have ever eaten at Caffe Gelato. I had the seafood pasta special. It was chock full of lobster, shrimp, etc. in a very creamy sauce. (This was a great improvement over the Shrimp Scampi, which had scant few shrimp.... call it "Shrimp Scanti!") My husband had the pork chops and couldn't stop raving about it. The restaurant has been renovated and the two large rooms are elegant and inviting. A smaller room at the back is a bit claustrophobic. Overall a lovely evening.
The food was delicious but the service was lacking. My wife ordered a glass of prosecco and would have ordered another one but our server didn't serve our meal and didn't come over to ask how it was and our meal was almost over when he did come over to see if we wanted another drink. Also, we were halfway through our meal when we realized that every other table in the restaurant had bread but us. We expected better service so it was disappointing.
We went for my birthday and had a wonderful time. We always enjoy the food and the service is always good
The dining room was under construction, but looked like it would be beautiful (although tables could use refinishing - not sure if that is in the works.) Food was very good - entrees superb but appetizer mushroom stuffed goat cheese not terribly exciting. Very good service!
Disappointed: restaurant called 1.5 hour before reservation to confirm and informed us they were not serving alcohol because they lost their liquor license.
Went anyway and restaurant was under renovations.
Despite restaurant over half empty service was very slow waited long times between dishes (over 10 minutes after ordering dessert (gelato) for it to arrive).
Food was great but everything else was disappointing.
Great upscale restaurant on Main Street in Newark! Delicious food and good ambiance.
Took a friend for her birthday...when we arrived it was under construction so the seating was tight but more importantly they neglected to advise me when I made the reservations that they were banned from serving any alchol which was disappointing to not have a glass of wine w our meal
This restaurant should NOT be open during renovation!
They were using some sort of chemical that smelled terrible! They opened a door downstairs, I’m guessing to get rid of the smell and it was freezing! The smell was so bad it emptied the restaurant. I will not return.
Presently being remodelled on one side; maybe a little noisier than usual. Busy during Restaurant Week in Newark. Food and presentation wonderful as usual.
We were sadly disappointed. Our reservations were for Monday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. Let me start out by saying that this restaurant has been a favorite of my wife's for years. First of all we receive a call letting us know that the restaurant had last their liquor license for a month and would we still like to come so the point is they knew we were coming. Secondly we arrived and they did not have a reserved table for us. All they had left was a table by the bar which was left over after they had seated what I can only assume was a combination of walk in and reserved quests. Also they were in the middle of a renovation which they had failed to mention on the telephone call. As I mentioned before we were not pleased and proceeded to leave and have a nice meal at another restaurant. This is not up to the standards which we had expected. Not sure that we will be returning here in the future.
Caffe Gelato is a favorite of ours. Despite the bar being closed, it lived up to our expectations. The Frutti di Mare was scrumptious with perfect pasta and fine selection of sea food. I had a keto friendly filet mignon done to my very-picky specifications—rare! Brussels Sprouts and grilled Asparagus were superb.
They had an alcohol license issue in January but it also seemed staff was pretty off their game in this situation. Not attentive, disinterested, slow (not sure how it was relatively empty) and overall lower quality of service than we are used to when coming here.
Service was excellent, being friendly while professional and keeping the interests of the customer foremost. Food was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Ambience is conducive to a happy wedding anniversary, with the temptation of delicious gelato to savor after a meal.
Food was delicious...great combinations! Service was excellent and friendly. Made a birthday lunch special for my family.
Food was excellent. Service was attentive. I would definitely return for dinner.
Went to dinner with Family prior to Christmas. Had an
I really liked the ambiance and environment of the restaurant. The food was delicious as well!
Had a wonderful time—Brunch was delicious and loved the unlimited Carafe of Mamosas! Hospitable service. Enjoyed a great birthday celebration with my aunt. And received $10 discount for her Birthday! Highly recommend this restaurant.
As first timers, we loved everything about Caffe Gelato! The special scallop appetizer was an unexpected surprise and the cocktails were awesome! From our salads to our main courses, the food was flavorful and the menu was creative. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu (Anna? Bad memory). Oh, and the salted caramel gelato was ridiculous. Can’t wait to come back!
I have always had excellent meals st Caffe Gelato. Order the scallops! On our most recent visit our salads were delicious, my salmon and my husband’s filet mignon were delicious and excellently prepared and presented. Service was excellent. I loved the amuse bouche. Thanks!
We were coming off a long hike and were looking for a sit down a la carte full mid day meal. Cafe Gellato only had Brunch Fare at 1400 hrs. Dinner service did not start until 1600hrs.
Nonetheless we found enough choices between Starters and a few Entree like plates.
Phoebe our server was new, learning, and delightful.
Wine list excellent. Food well prepared well presented and tasty.
Gellati for desert.
We go back often enough so we can see if Phoebe has learned to open and pour a wine bottle.
The paella was unexpected on an Italian restaurant menu and was delicious! It was a generous portion packed full of delicious stuff, lobster, clams, mussels, sausage, chicken and salmon. We were blown away by their extensive wine list and ordered a very well priced white Châteauneuf-du-Pape which is so rare to find on restaurant menus! It was a delightful brunch.
I have had many meals at Gelato and have never been disappointed. At this brunch I ordered a seafood crepe that was unique and delicious. I also ordered their white Sangria to accompany this, also satisfying. Truthfully, I've always enjoyed anything I ordered at Gelato.
My wife rated her glass of Shiraz as excellent. We both ordered salads to start and an appetizer to split, all of which came at once. We weren't halfway through these when the entrees arrived. All the food was delicious but I'd have preferred a more leisurely pace. I'd noted in the reservation it was an anniversary celebration. We took gelato home for dessert. They used to send it along in a miniature, styrafoam "cooler" but no longer. It was three scoops of different flavors (as ordered) and varying amounts, layered one atop the next in a small tumbler-shaped container. It melted a little in transit but less than it might have since our server thoughtfully packed it with a small bag of ice. It was still very tasty, as were the leftovers of our entrees that we brought home, portions being generous.
We always enjoy our visits to Caffe Gelatto. Our cocktail was perfect, and our dinners of crispy skin duck and sauteed scallops and clams on linguine were delicious. Thank you for a winderful experience.
We enjoy Café Gelato but we were seated in the back by the kitchen and the constant crashing of dishes made for a very bad atmosphere. It was way too loud to be able to enjoy a conversation. In addition, when the waitress brought our coffee she only brought flavored creamers. Coffee was done by the time we tracked her down.
Celebrated my mother’s birthday, and her anniversary, we ended to getting the private wine room in the front of the restaurant which was excellent because there was no noise , without requesting it was a great surprise and really made the evening great. The food and service were excellent as Always, The Scallop special was incredible! All around fabulous evening! Thank you!!
It pains me to give this restaurant a poor review; however, I hope it will help them improve their service. The place is very cool looking and homey at the same time. I had an awesome raspberry sorbet martini . The hostess was miserable from the get go. The server was trying to be nice, called everyone ‘hon’, even though we are 50 and she is 20 ish. She just gave such poor service . She ordered one of the entrees wrong, honest mistake , but no manager checking in what was going on . She didn’t clear the plates until they were all piled on top of each other . We decided to stay for coffee and dessert and got our coffee promptly; although , it had a burnt taste to it , we appreciated the effort . She never brought the dessert menu, even though we said yes when asked if we wanted it . Just dropped our check The food was good ; although some of it was plated oddly, we thought. Gnocchi, filet were thumbs up. We thought this was a good concept, but executed poorly because of lack of training of the staff and no manager presence. Nevertheless, we want to give them another try.
Not as pleased as usual. There was confusion about who had our table and we waited about 15 minutes before a waiter came. The staff overall seemed a bit scattered and unorganized (bringing food to the wrong tables, etc) but our waiter (Chip) was great. He gave great suggestions and recommendations. The crab and shrimp which is my goto anymore was not as flavorful as usual and the shrimp were slightly undercooked. My husband really enjoyed his salmon which was modified to omit the olives at Chip's suggestion. He did not really care for the accompaniments that came with the salmon but that changes all the time. Most of my favority gelato flavors have been eliminated but luckily Chip suggested replacements that worked well. Overall experience is slipping but it is still a very good restaurant. I think it my be missing the owners touch. His presense really seems to make a difference. :-)
