Caffe Dolce Ratings and Reviews
We eat at Cafe Dolce often, probably once to twice a month. The service is usually very good. However, Friday night our service was sub par. Our server was friendly, and was accommodating to my husband and I splitting our meal. When we got our appetizer of clams, she brought us a bowl in which to put our shells, but didn't bring any appetizer plates. She gave us the tiny forks for the clams, but our bread plates were gone. When she brought our entree, also no extra plates. She didn't come back to the table until we were almost done to check on our dinner. My husband had to eat the short ribs with the clam fork call my because she didn't leave our silverware after our salads. We will return to Caffe Dolce, but I will say it was a little disappointing
We have found Dolce up and down over the years, and this time it was down. Instead of the usual tasty rolls, the waiter served rolls that were one or two days old: inedible. Should have sent them back but didn't want to make a scene. The house salad came with no pecans (contrary to the menu) and little of that dreamy goat cheese, and was drenched in vinegar. Nine bucks for that. Also should have been sent back. The pasta, however, was good.
I have eaten here in groups from 2 to 10. The food is always superlative. Usually the service is terrific, but on the most recent occasion - a relatively quiet Wednesday night-, the service was atrocious. It took too long to have our drink orders taken and served. We thought our food order had been lost. At the end a second server came out to apologize that our server had gone home after her shift ended, and that she did not know who had ordered what! This was very surprising based on my previous experiences, and , although I will always come back, might dissuade others from returning.
Excellent food and great service. Quiet, unassuming place in a quiet residential neighborhood. Open style seating - like eating in a large living room. But, tables are far enough apart to be private. Christina was an excellent waiter. Attentive but not obtrusively so. We had the specials - a seafood pasta and my pal had the salmon. Both were outstanding. Definitely a good place to spend a quiet dinner.
Cafe Dolce has a unique, almost an old-world look and feel. It is not an intimate setting by any means, but the ambience is very nice. The service was great, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. We had the wild mushroom, goat cheese, bread & butter onion pickles bruschetta and then both ordered the pasta special; fusilli with heirloom tomato, seafood ragu, grapefruit & herbed mascarpone...delicious! When and if we get back to Missoula, we will definitely go to Cafe Dolce!
The food is good, but not great, and it's pricey. There was a special Middle Eastern chef event, which is why we went, but the menu was very limited and meat-heavy, so as a vegetarian, I didn't have a lot of choices. Also, the reservation was for 3 people, and all 3 of us were there, and the hostess took us to a table for ... 2. Hmmm.
We have dined at Dolce much less often as the quality of the dishes grew spotty even as the prices went up. This time all was quite good, though.
One peeve all the same: many favorites of mine have disappeared over time from the Dolce menu, such as roasted chicken, squid ink pasta, and a pasta with mussels. Even a particularly good green salad is gone.
Caffe Dolce was a pleasant surprise. We were passing through town and drove about 12 miles to get to the restaurant. We were not dosappointed. We sat outside, the weather was perfect. The food was delicious. We had the Seafood Fusilli, Garden Salad, Caesar Saland with Anchovies, and Pasta Amatriatrana ( they were kind enough to make the sauce without pancetta). A chocolate dessert too. We had a nice bottle of Sangiovese, but upon reading the menu further we saw "featured" wine, also Sangiovese, that we would have ordered had we seen it. However, the owner gave us all a little taste, and we were happy with both wines. Good find!!
Excellent food. Server was attentive. Only dislike was hostess. We had resi (family if four) and asked for a table outside. We were on time for our resi, maybe a couple minutes early. She said not available. Then after we were seated inside she proceeded to seat a couple with no resi at a four top outside. They checked in right before us. Family hater? Who knows. We did not say anything. Then when we wanted to pay and she was nearby us, we asked if could give her our cc and bill. She looked put off. I fail to understand why great restaurants hire hostesses with an attitude.
Very comfortable, good salads, bucatini dish attractive but not special. Wine list is overprice but most wines are unique and less popular vineyards. Easy way to keep markup high.
Not impressed, after hearing so much about this place. Wanted it to be more, much more.
In a word, Fabulous! We drove 3 hours to have a birthday meal at Cafe Dolce and it was worth every mile! The food is fresh, creative, and hand made. There is a great wine list, and a variety of choices on the menu using local products. Service was also excellent with a very friendly, well trained person. The decor in Cafe Dolce is also one of its great attractions with beautiful Frescos on the ceiling, and ceramic mosaics on the floor. The lighting is soft, not too bright which enhances the ambiance of the place. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious, beautifully served meal. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
Have been to Caffe Dolce on several occasions when visiting Missoula. We miss the old menu--this one is almost too "creative" for our tastes, but still tasty. Has always been noisy, so not a really good place to go if you want to have deep conversations, but a happy, upbeat atmosphere with reasonably good food & drink.
This is a great place. We were there last year when we were in Missoula, and decided to try it again this year. The main (and only) disappointment was that the tirimisu which we absolutely loved last year was unavailable this time. Bummer! But we still recommend the place.
Caffe Dolce is one of our favorite restaurants. The noise level inside is often quite 'vibrant' due to the high ceilings and lack of anything to absorb sound. In good weather we choose to eat on the patio which is lovely. That was the case for this visit. Service this time was a little slow, but I think the kitchen was slow due to the big crowd; no problems at all with our personable Aussie waiter, new to Missoula. We weren't in a hurry and enjoyed every leisurely part of our meal. The flavors and textures in the two pasta dishes we ordered (fusilli with crab and grapefruit and the freeform lasagna with morrells and gremolata) were outstanding! Of course, we will be back!
Beautiful place, different flavors from different dishes very well done. Great wine list and lots of different beer. Wonderful in the summertime, with outside seating and lots of fresh air. Breakfast and brunch are always excellent, and cute waitresses, all in all a very interesting and fun place to eat at. We'll be back for sure.
