This seems really retarted. It is closed and apparently another restaurant is going in there. I do wish we had known this prior to our arrival Saturday night.
Delicious Italian food! And very good service. We love dining there!
DEPENDABLE FOR PRE-SYMPHONY OR OPERA DINNING. FOOD IS VERY GOOD, NOT GREAT, WITH SERVICE GEARED TO GET YOU OUT IN TIME FOR CURTAIN.
I have been here many times and always found the food to be very good and a good value. However, on this occasion, one of our entrees was not good at all, and we felt the salad was good but overpriced.
Great restaurant! Staff are very friendly. Food was so delicious - great ingredients with simple recipes. Came after the ballet for a special pre-birthday treat. Will most definitely be back soon.
Nice little restaurant an easy walk to the symphony. Lots of activity to watch on Hayes street. Had the ravioli filled with kale and parmesan, not a good idea for me as the kale taste was overwhelming. Also they did not have the one item on the menu I wanted for dessert.
A great place to dine before S F Symphony, SF Opera, SF Ballet, etc. - which we have been doing for 20+ years now. Staff Noy and Theodora are always so very welcoming.
Good quality and value. Great choice if going to ballet or symphony nearby
Had 5:30 pm reservations because of 7:30 pm concert. Everything was fine except they had already run out of the "special " that I wanted which seemed unusual. The alternative fish meal was fine.
good food, good ambiance, convenient, what's not to like? Great for a relaxed meal, lunch or dinner. Good Italian menu, good house wine.
We had a very good time. The server was very busy, so it took him a little longer to
take care of us than we would have liked, but he was clearly doing his best. His name was
My pasta dish (a special) was just slightly too salty. However, I enjoyed it anyway.
My husband's past dish was close to perfect.
We had ice cream with Irish Cream with whipped cream for dessert and although it
was soupy, it was delicious.
They don't serve decaffeinated coffee, which I would have enjoyed, but every place
has a limit to what they can do.
It was a lovely experience.
I love this place and try to book a table whenever I'm in the city for a performance. Salads are great, fish is wonderful, especially the rolled sea bass!
My husband loved the red snapper-best he has ever had! I had a special that was stuffed sea bass and while tasty, the portion was ridiculously small. I should have said something. Service is very accommodating albeit a bit slow despite the restaurant not being full. Lighting needs to be better.
Great meal for a date before the Symphony. A wonderful overture for any show.
Nice place. My only complaint would be that the Pappardelle had dried rosemary on top (not a whole sprig which could be removed, but individual needles) that had the unsettling crunch of fingernail clippings. But other than that the food was good and the atmosphere very pleasant and comfortable. Good, attentive but not overly attentive service.
Great food and excellent service. Place was completely quiet compared to other restaurants on Hayes which gave us some pause but in the end we were pleased. If you want a "scene" this isn't it. But if you want a good meal you'll find one here.
We had just attended the Nutcracker Ballet and were looking for a nice Italian restaurant within walking distance. Cafe Delle Stelle was a comfortable place in a busy neighborhood. I really enjoyed the broccoli and kale soup We shared the Delle Stelle salad. She had the lasagna and I had the fettuccini. Everything including the lemonade and chocolate dessert was really good as was the service!
Caffe Delle Stelle consistently has good Italian food. We have eaten here post & pre theater & concerts for a number of years. We always enjoy the food & service.
This evening was a repeat of what happened to us in the past. It was a Sunday & one wait staff did not show. It left 2 wait staff for a very full restaurant. The 2 waiters did an admiral job considering the circumstances. But, as you can imagine the service was very slow.
We were very disappointed. It was our daughter's 18th birthday. We had a terrible seat next to the bar and towards the back and the kitchen. They would not put us in a better place. The food was not tasty and the selection was poor. We will not return and will not recommend it to others.
I felt my raviolis could have been cooked more, too Alderney.
We were disappointed by the food on this visit. The veal scallopine and the mushroom pasta were lacking in taste. The gnocchi was good though. And the service was slow. We had fond memories of this restaurant from visits from years ago. Hopefully this was just an off night?
This is my second visit to caffe delle stelle - the first time (last year 2016) the place was empty, the food was good and I thought it's a place to come back to when I was going to an event. This year I came back (2017) and the place was packed and the food is still good but the service really suffered from being really short staffed. Our waiter did his best, so it's not on him. The experience will definitely make me pause before trying again.
Food is good, but they desperately need more servers.
The dinner was lovely, as always, and the service superb. Thank you!
Restaurant was crowded and noisy with slow service. It has a very limited wine list. The veal was over-cooked and dry. The pasta dish was pretty good.
We will be back; great for pre-symphony dining. Enjoyed ourselves very much!
It was too noisy, and we had to wait a l-o-n-g time for the food. We also had to change tables---the table next to us was very noisy.
delle Stelle is consistently good Italian food, served in a simple, rustic Tuscan dining room. service is energetic and usually fast. Always a good bet before or after Symphony or Opera.
Great place to eat before going to Davies Symphony Hall, Herbst Theatre etc. Good food, nice wine at decent prices, good service.
Service was great with an Italian flare. Portions are big enough to split for regular appeties. Good place before the opera or symphony as close to the venues!
The best Italian food in SF!
Reservations were for 5:00 PM, but doors didn't open until 5:07 - we had to wait outside, in front of the restaurant. Employees right inside the door did not even acknowledge us. Service was slow, despite the place being empty for the first half-hour. However, our server was really very nice.
She was the best thing about the place. Filet of sole was average, veal was very tough - inedible.
The waitress did alert the kitchen, and had them prepare a serving of sole to replace the veal. She also comped our dessert. We tipped her well, but won't be going back.
Was a decent place 15 years ago. Now they don’t seem to care and have not kept up with the rising standards in the market. In fact it’s gotten worse. Doing good Italian food isn’t rocket science. I can cook better at home.
It was great!
The food and service were great. There was one group that was on the other side of the restaurant that made it impossible for us to have a good dinner conversation. They had members of the group that were really loud!! One had a caustic loud voice. Not usual for this restaurant but definitely put a dim on this dinner.
We enjoyed both dinner and lunch the following day at Caffe Stella. Excellent traditional Italian cuisine with some innovative twists. The grilled calamari appetizer done with white beans and arrugula was delicious. We also enjoyed spaghetti with sea bass and a buccatini with beef and pork sugo for our dinner. At lunch we had the Italian Cobb salad and the procuitto panini.
Service was attentive on both visits. A definite must try place.
Our favorite Italian food before we head to Jazz or Symphony. Great location! Good food and service.
Great before the Symphony. Service is wonderful. It's like visiting our friends. They remember us and are very gracious. Very flexible about preparing the dishes we love even when they are no longer on the menu.
Great place for dinner before the theater, opera or symphony. Good food with a menu that changes periodically, popular restaurant with locals and usually very busy with patrons.
We have been coming to this restaurant for a long time to enjoy the food, convenience to the Symphony Hall and friendly staff. However this particular occasion involved a table of 18 people seated next to us who were captivated by one young woman who proceeded to talk Loudly for the whole time , waving her arms and generally dominating the table. She hardly came up for breath. The other folks in her party didn't speak, just watched in silence as she held court. There were other tables near us who rolled their eyes and surely wanted to snatch her from her perch. It was a busy night and we were reluctant to talk to the server as it wouldn't have done any good to approach her as she seemed blissfully ignorant and brilliantly blabbing on. Sorry ..it did ruin our dinner.
