Great service and meal. Was immediately met by hostesss and seated. Server was warm, friendly and helpful. Kudos for a wonderful dining experience.
Very authentic Italian food (as in from Italy, where I was last year). The service is good and very polite. It is in a great location and easy to access. I would recommend this if you are in Brooklyn. Also very affordable.
A friend and I stopped in to Caffè Buon Gusto's Brooklyn Heights location for dinner before a show. Cozy space, quaint if forgettable decor. Ask sweetly for extra pizza bread and focaccia, it's amazing! The shrimp and prosciutto appetizer was perky and tart, and the kitchen made me a hearty risotto. Desserts were passable but not memorable. Jen was an amazing waitress, so funny and sweet! Management was not able to figure out our OpenTable payment voucher and was pushy about selling us bottled water, but otherwise a passable dinner. Thank you!
My husband and I enjoyed the food. We plan to visit again.
Very simple, but amazingly good food. Very traditional Italian (and I know since I was in Italy last year). The eggplant parmesan is not breaded, like it is in Italy. So much better than Americanized eggplant parm. Chicken Fra Diavolo was awesome. For the price in a great part of Brooklyn, it is well worth the trip.
One of my “go to” places in Brooklyn Heights for a casual or a business lunch or dinner.
Good service, can at times be overly attentive.
Food nicely prepared, reasonably priced.
Pasta sauces tend to be French style, northern Italian. My preference is southern Italy, Mediterranean influence. .........dke
Food is very good. Well priced. Ambiance needs updating
I've had dinner at Caffe Buon Gusto several times. The food is fresh and very good. The service is friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend it as one of the restaurants to check out on Montague Street in Brooklyn.
Second time I've met an out-of-town friend staying in Park Slope at Buon Gusto. No more looking for nearby restaurants. This will be our meeting place. The food and wine was wonderful. Service cordial and attentive. Their fixed prix dinner menu was amazing. We ate with Buon Gusto!
They have a wide variety of good food. Nice wine. Service was just the right balance of presence and unobtrusiveness. Recommended!
Mixed quality of food. Menu listed scallops with pancetta, but they were wrapped with American bacon. Salad with beef tenderloin was actually with ribeye--a cheaper cut than promised. On the other hand, avocado, tomato, and mozzarella salad and pumpkin ravioli on the night's special menu were excellent. Also irritating was that they were out of the first two bottles we asked for on the wine list. Not good for a place that advertises itself as a quality Italian restaurant!
Our waitress was awful. We mentioned it was someone's birthday and she pretended to not speak English well to avoid having to do anything. We clearly saw her speak English to other tables.
This is my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn Heights! The food is delicious and the staff is so friendly and accommodating.
The server was clueless, kept dropping or spilling everything she carried to the table. Food was bland, unimaginative and poorly presented. Would not recommend.
It was a nice evening in Brooklyn Heights. Great neighborhood. We sat outside and enjoyed the streetlife.
Service was poor. Server was rude and not attentive. Not what we remember about this formerly great restaurant.
Food is always excellent and service is attentive
Booked a table to celebrate a birthday which no one at the restaurant seemed to take note of - but notwithstanding, the food was delicious. I haven't had veal-stuffed tortellini in years and was not disappointed. The owner was very hospitable, the service staff, a bit "green." But overall, an enjoyable evening.
service was good but food was cold. it's hard to screw up eggs and bacon but alas it happened. we were a party of 16 people celebrating our wedding and everyone's dish was cold. waitress did nothing to remedy the situation. I would not go back.
Delicious Italian food at a good price. My friends and I shared a few great chicken dishes. Salads great too. Had their house pinot noir, which was also delicious. Great restaurant on a fun street in Brooklyn.
Great homemade ravioli
Our server was extremely attentive and was very nice! My food was just okay, but my husband enjoyed his stating the seafood was very fresh. I can say the dessert was good and given to us on the house which I'm glad he did as I'll order it if I ever go back. I would visit again in hopes that I could rate the food higher as the service was great!
We chose Caffe Buon Gusto because of the proximity to the Appellate Courthouse and were VERY glad we did! Welcoming and charming ambience, excellent & friendly service...and delicious food. They knew we were celebrating a milestone and brought us complimentary dessert that was scrumptious! Definitely a neighborhood gem.
Food and service were excellent. You will not go wrong here
Nice place to eat on Montegue St. Food is always great. It`s a trendy Italian restaurant, as opposed to the traditional looking kind, like Armondo`s.
A girlfriend and I met for lunch and both had the prefixe lunch special. The food was excellent and we both enjoyed the dessert also. Order a glass of Pinot Noir!
Old school charm felt at home terrific meal
This was a great find, and wonderful value for the money. My only suggestion is for the sauces to be a little less salty. They were great, but I could have added salt myself if I wanted it. The service was wonderful, and it's one of the better Italian restaurants I've ever eaten in (and I grew up 50 years ago going to mom-and-pop Italian restaurants in Bay Ridge, so I know what I'm talking about here.)
I enjoyed my meal and the staff were very attentive.
When I'm in Brooklyn for my job several times a year, I always make Caffé Buon Gusto a stop for lunch or dinner. Last week I had dinner there. The staff is always welcoming, friendly and accommodating. For the appetizer, I had the baby octopus, which is consistently tender. I then had one of the dinner specials, the Chilean seabass, served in a medallion-shape over a generous plate of delicately-seasoned risotto. It was definitely in the spirit of "comfort food" -- warm, soft, and deliciously filling without being heavy. With no room for dessert, I opted for a double espresso, for which Caffé Buon Gusto has mastered the proper size. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is lovely, with attractive lighting and a spacious feel. Surprisingly, no one opted to dine outside that evening despite the nice weather. No matter in or out, the restaurant offers a highly pleasant dining experience for a reasonable cost in an easily accessible neighborhood setting.
Love the homemade pastas on the menu with your choice of sauce. Good stuff!
Good food. I got the seafood linguine. I am not a 100% sure the clams and muscles were cleaned before being cooked. Good service.
A wide variety of traditional Italian dishes, well-prepared and served with a smile. They handled our large group very well, including accommodating 2 children. We had a good time, enjoyed our food including tasty desserts, and weren't rushed. We'd definitely go back.
I can't complain about the food which is delicious but the service is not professional although they are nice. I think they are trying to save money by using delivery men as waiters, too. After dinner when I was walking around the neighborhood the waiter that just served us was whizzing by on a bike making a delivery.
On Easter Sunday they were also short staffed . Some of the chairs need to be replaced.
Frequent diner at Buon Gusto. Always order lamb chops on prix fixe . This last time I opted to try something different. Big mistake . Ordered the sole. It was beyond awful. Dry and tasteless. I could have had sauce on it but a good piece of fish should taste like a good piece of fish. My mate told me not to order the fish. Should have listened. And, that is the reason the fish was not returned. His dinner of lasagna was just to his liking . Would I return? Absolutely, next time I am in the mood for lamb chops.
The food was delicious , the restaurant is lovely with white tablecloth on tables and wallpaper faux marble on walls tastefully done. We felt very welcomed by the Maitre'd, Marcelo, who greeted us with a warm big smile and led us to our table.
We ate linguini with seafood in a wine sauce, and linguine with salmon in a tomato sauce . The pasta was homemade and so delicious...tasty and abundant without being so much one can't eat it all.
The service was polite and efficient and we were not rushed to pay or leave as we lingered after dinner.
We ordered Ricotta Cheesecake which was so good but so small a piece that I burst out laughing since my daughter and I usually split the slice, and this slice was too small to slice or share.
I am looking forward to returning soon but I will not order the Ricotta cheesecake.
Cafe Buon Gusto has been around for quite a while. It's great sitting outdoors in warm weather but also nice to sit indoors at other times. Food is always fresh. Great place to meet friends and catch up.
A pleasant unassuming restaurant serving simple straight forward Italian fare. The pasta, pizza and panini worked for a good lunch as we had walked the area for a couple of hours.
