Caffe Buon Gusto - Montague Ratings and Reviews
Second time I've met an out-of-town friend staying in Park Slope at Buon Gusto. No more looking for nearby restaurants. This will be our meeting place. The food and wine was wonderful. Service cordial and attentive. Their fixed prix dinner menu was amazing. We ate with Buon Gusto!
Mixed quality of food. Menu listed scallops with pancetta, but they were wrapped with American bacon. Salad with beef tenderloin was actually with ribeye--a cheaper cut than promised. On the other hand, avocado, tomato, and mozzarella salad and pumpkin ravioli on the night's special menu were excellent. Also irritating was that they were out of the first two bottles we asked for on the wine list. Not good for a place that advertises itself as a quality Italian restaurant!
Booked a table to celebrate a birthday which no one at the restaurant seemed to take note of - but notwithstanding, the food was delicious. I haven't had veal-stuffed tortellini in years and was not disappointed. The owner was very hospitable, the service staff, a bit "green." But overall, an enjoyable evening.
Our server was extremely attentive and was very nice! My food was just okay, but my husband enjoyed his stating the seafood was very fresh. I can say the dessert was good and given to us on the house which I'm glad he did as I'll order it if I ever go back. I would visit again in hopes that I could rate the food higher as the service was great!
We chose Caffe Buon Gusto because of the proximity to the Appellate Courthouse and were VERY glad we did! Welcoming and charming ambience, excellent & friendly service...and delicious food. They knew we were celebrating a milestone and brought us complimentary dessert that was scrumptious! Definitely a neighborhood gem.
This was a great find, and wonderful value for the money. My only suggestion is for the sauces to be a little less salty. They were great, but I could have added salt myself if I wanted it. The service was wonderful, and it's one of the better Italian restaurants I've ever eaten in (and I grew up 50 years ago going to mom-and-pop Italian restaurants in Bay Ridge, so I know what I'm talking about here.)
When I'm in Brooklyn for my job several times a year, I always make Caffé Buon Gusto a stop for lunch or dinner. Last week I had dinner there. The staff is always welcoming, friendly and accommodating. For the appetizer, I had the baby octopus, which is consistently tender. I then had one of the dinner specials, the Chilean seabass, served in a medallion-shape over a generous plate of delicately-seasoned risotto. It was definitely in the spirit of "comfort food" -- warm, soft, and deliciously filling without being heavy. With no room for dessert, I opted for a double espresso, for which Caffé Buon Gusto has mastered the proper size. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is lovely, with attractive lighting and a spacious feel. Surprisingly, no one opted to dine outside that evening despite the nice weather. No matter in or out, the restaurant offers a highly pleasant dining experience for a reasonable cost in an easily accessible neighborhood setting.
A wide variety of traditional Italian dishes, well-prepared and served with a smile. They handled our large group very well, including accommodating 2 children. We had a good time, enjoyed our food including tasty desserts, and weren't rushed. We'd definitely go back.
I can't complain about the food which is delicious but the service is not professional although they are nice. I think they are trying to save money by using delivery men as waiters, too. After dinner when I was walking around the neighborhood the waiter that just served us was whizzing by on a bike making a delivery.
On Easter Sunday they were also short staffed . Some of the chairs need to be replaced.
Frequent diner at Buon Gusto. Always order lamb chops on prix fixe . This last time I opted to try something different. Big mistake . Ordered the sole. It was beyond awful. Dry and tasteless. I could have had sauce on it but a good piece of fish should taste like a good piece of fish. My mate told me not to order the fish. Should have listened. And, that is the reason the fish was not returned. His dinner of lasagna was just to his liking . Would I return? Absolutely, next time I am in the mood for lamb chops.
The food was delicious , the restaurant is lovely with white tablecloth on tables and wallpaper faux marble on walls tastefully done. We felt very welcomed by the Maitre'd, Marcelo, who greeted us with a warm big smile and led us to our table.
We ate linguini with seafood in a wine sauce, and linguine with salmon in a tomato sauce . The pasta was homemade and so delicious...tasty and abundant without being so much one can't eat it all.
The service was polite and efficient and we were not rushed to pay or leave as we lingered after dinner.
We ordered Ricotta Cheesecake which was so good but so small a piece that I burst out laughing since my daughter and I usually split the slice, and this slice was too small to slice or share.
I am looking forward to returning soon but I will not order the Ricotta cheesecake.
My son recommended this restaurant...he attends college in the area. We were looking for good food and a comfortable setting. We were more than satisfied on both counts. We all enjoyed our meals, they were prepared exceptionally well, the service was kind and the setting was comfortable. We will return.
Nice Brooklyn Italian food. BeBe, the assistant waiter was outstanding and service by him and our waiter was well done. BeBe needs to be recognized for always being there to ensure all needs, wants and desires were fulfilled - water was constantly refilled and napkins ensured to be there. Wonderful.
Asked for quiet table. We were one of two parties in restaurant. We were seated right next to them. Manager or some other staff person loudly talked to this table. After not being able to hear friends at our table, I politely asked that manager to please sit, & speak more quietly. He did for awhile then was loud again. Asked for music volume to be turned down; it was for awhile, then loud again. Had to repeatedly ask for water. Inattentive not busy servers. Food good. Have gone here for years, but doubt I would go again. Bad experience.
Came here before a concert at Barclay center. Food was mediocre at best. One dish we ordered was Chicken Sorrentino and eggplant was bad. I told both waitress and bus boy and no one cared. They did not offer new dish or credit on bill despite being a larger party. Waitress was not attentive and restaurant was not even that busy. Most dishes we ordered were basic - chicken parm or pastas and nothing was great. I am sure there are better places to dine in the area. So disappointed as I had eaten at NYC location years ago and remembered much better. If coming here - at least stick to pasta dishes as both fish and chicken dishes were not up to par.
