Loved it, it was a great time with great service
Food came out with a hair on it
Great location, great food, great service. Fun spot for a quick lunch on Newbury Dtreet.
Dined at Cafeteria twice last week while attending a conference at the Hynes Convention Center (this place is like 400 feet from front door to front door). The first day I was there for Brunch, which was fine but not outstanding. One day later, I was there with a different group of colleagues for lunch, and was much happier. The lunch menu is better - more interesting. In both cases the food was delicious (the bolognese I had for lunch was absolutely fantastic) and my colleagues also seemed really happy with their lunch dishes and just mediocre about the brunch fare the day before. I actually think Cafeteria should to a menu overhaul - this sounds picky but the look of the menu gives you low expectations. Cafeteria's ambiance is bright, casual and pleasant - but with their current menu you get more of a "diner" feel. With a different, more elegant menu it would have more of a "delightful luncheon" feel. Of course, if the target audience is hipsters they're probably right on target, and I should buy some ironic T-shirts.
Best French toast in all of boston! Wish I could eat here every day.
Great food, service slow. Group next to us incredibly loud and should have been told to keep it down. Once they left the entire room’s noise level returned to normal!
We went to Cafeteria Boston with our twins, age 3, for Sunday breakfast and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The kid-sized portions were appropriate and extremely palatable (I'm going to get the kids pancakes for myself next time) but weren't really "kid food" but smaller portions of terrific, in this case, brunch. Also, the coffee was really good (and I'm a total coffee snob). With a great ambiance on the terrace and an attentive staff - my first coffee was on the cool side - we got a great value for our family. We absolutely will go back next time we're in the neighborhood.
Great menu, something for everyone! Service was fantastic. Food arrived hot and fresh. Will definitely go back.
Love the patio at Cafeteria, but if you can't sit on the patio ask to sit upstairs inside. Awesome food and great drinks. Highly recommend for brunch or lunch.
Good spot. Relatively cheap for being on Newbury, wide variety of options on the menu, nice patio, food was good.
Poor service. Never brought a 2nd drink I asked for. Distracted kids working there.
Great service and decent food.
Showed up on time for our reservation and there were quite a few walk in parties. The hostess took their names down and said she would be with us in a minute. I watched her seat a few of the walk in over 20 minutes. I walked over and asked if she forgot about us and she answered yes! They then stuck us in a tiny table outside with no umbrella directly in the sun. Food was meh - truly unimpressive.
You are better off waiting at one of the other restaurants on the block.
Beautiful outdoor lunch to celebrate a special birthday! Food is delicious with great service!
fabulous service and accommodated our music requests.
Only have seen the outside dining area, but it's really pretty! I had a decent amount of options as a vegan and my non-vegan friends loved their food as well.
Outstanding food but service was just so-so. Our coffee took far too long to show up (our waiter pulled a disappearing act later handwaved by a manager as "he's at the brew station"). The kids ordered the pancakes (1 order was enough for them to split), but even though we had two orders of pancakes at the table we had to ask repeatedly for syrup, as none came with the food. On the other hand, the pancakes, the huevos rancheros, and the French toast were all excellent (the coffee wasn't worth the wait). Go for the food for sure, but don't be surprised if the wait staff needs a bit of prodding.
We had so much fun. We were tired from moving into college apartment, and this was a perfect fix. Josh is so charming and fun and knowledgeable. The food was really good, and it hit every mark for a nice family evening out.
spent a few days in boston for my son's graduation and found this gem - great patio, delicious food - NOT your grandmother's cafeteria!
Lobster rolls were very tasty; perfect amount of dressing just to hold the lobster together.
I had a good experience, the food was very good, and the drinks where great. The chairs are very old and unstable. Overall a good experience
Great date spot. The food was awesome. Loved the drinks
We had a reservation for inside, but there was a table on the patio so we ended up eating there, which was fantastic! Only one beer on draft. We got the spinach artichoke dip to start, which was more pureed than we expected but very tasty. My group got the fish and chips (well cooked, but needed a little salt, which wasn't on the table), the gazpacho (delicious), burger (slightly overcooked - med well instead of medium - but tasty), and taco salad (a little lacking on dressing, but otherwise good). Service was impeccable, waters were filled regularly, and our food was delivered in a timely manner. Great experience, and a perfect dinner before heading to Fenway!
I've been to Cafeteria on numerous occasions and I always love my visit! The food is always fantastic & their red sangria is my go-to beverage. Fun & consistent, Cafeteria has a solid choice for dining.
The service was awful, customers who came after us were served before us. We waited almost 45 min for salad, grilled cheese, and a fish entree. The server seemed as if he didn't care we waited so long even after we complained. The food was mediocre, they forgot my chicken on my salad and the chicken came out asap after I complained, which makes me question the quality and freshness of it. Even the spinach artichoke appetizer took 20 min to come out. The restaurant wasn't even that full, which means there's no reason why it should have took so long. The only thing that i appreciated was when the server took my card after my friends fought me over the bill lmao. The service has gone so downhill, and I will not be returning after being a loyal customer.
The truffle fries were absolutely amazing and the specialty margarita was very strong and tasty
Nice place without being pretentious. Consistently good food. Generous portions. Overall great experience.
Our waiter kept disappearing for an eternity, and several times we needed to ask the hostess or another server to track him down. The noise was out of control (not helped by a screaming baby, but even besides that conversation echoed off the basement walls and concrete floor). The food was OK and reasonably priced, but uninspired. I was told the dish I really wanted, the chicken, would have a wait time 25 minutes longer than the other meals (why?!) so I substituted with the cod--which was paired with ice-cold asparagus, which seemed to be intentional but was unappetizing. On top of that, the booth was apparently made for very twiggy people - my average-sized dinner companions were not at all comfortable. Overall, not a pleasant experience.
Great outdoor dining spot!
