Our new cafeteria-themed menu is a modern interpretation of classic soul-satisfying American dishes prepared with organic grass-fed beef and lamb, free-range chicken, the freshest seafood and organic, local produce. These properly raised ingredients
behave perfectly with a new world of herbs, spices and culinary techniques to create deeply satisfying comfort food for the new millennium.
We never actually got to eat. We had heard good things and wanted to try it, and specifically chose it because it had gluten free bread for sandwiches. When we ordered we were informed they had no gluten free bread, but offered to make it with lettuce. Didn’t think a Cuban would go well between two pieces of lettuce. We had to leave to find somewhere else gluten friendly.
Food was okay but great prices for Boston. More for the younger crowd.
Food not great. Sitting on the patio is so nice, but the service was pretty bad. Took forever to get our drinks and food came too quickly.
We made a reservation, and when we got there we were put in the middle of a very busy table. People who walked in after us (no reservation) got a nice booth. In most restaurants, the nicest tables are reserved for those who bothered to make a reservation. Then, waiter never came to give us water or take our order. I had to go find the manager and ask "How do you get any service around here?" The food was good, noise level was off the charts high volume. Couldn't hear the other 2 people in my party. Although the steak part of the steak and eggs was tasty, Our party decided very quickly to cross this one off our list. Bloody Mary had the salt shaker thrown in. Food passable, but Service just plain stinks. Would never return. Too many other good choices on Newbury and beyond that when you reserve a table, they give you a front facing or nice booth! Here they just don't seem to give a darn. And so, we didn't tip well either. Your loss CafeTeria.
The waiter didn’t bring everything on time that was asked for and had to be reminded. I wasn’t even that busy. And this was Sunday, April 7 for an 11 a.m. reservation. Really didn’t feel that aside from the hassle of driving over 30 miles to come in and paying $30 for parking that the experience was worth what we paid for plus the time and effort to get there.
Great place for brunch with friends. The outside sitting was amazing and the food was great. The avocado toast, the french toast and the pancakes are incredible.
Poor staff attitude, waited over an hour before our drinks order arrived. Their policy of not allowing your group to sit until the last person arrives is really annoying. Will not go back and will not recommend purely based on bad attitudes of staff.
I love this place. Food was great but service this time was not upto the mark. Server was not even in smiling felt as if he was over worked.
We had to wait 30 minutes for a table outside - not because there weren't plenty of empty tables, but because (as we came to find out) there was only 1 server outside and they could barely keep up. After we were seated it took about 20 minutes to get water and our order placed. Coffee was brought after another wait with no cream or sugar or an ask if we wanted any. We had to ask the hostess girl who was running around trying to help serve tables for cream and sugar that we got once the coffee had gotten cold. Food was decent and came our fairly quickly. Nothing to write home about and there are plenty of other places to eat outside on Newbury, not likely to go back. Bloody Mary (that we had while waiting for a table) was pretty good.
Been to Cafeteria many times and food is always top notch!!
Beautiful outside seating and fairly good food. The combination of outside seating, food quality, and pricing make it worth going.
I always love the food at Cafeteria so I keep going, but I'm also always disappointed by the service. I don't understand why they can't get that side of things right. I typically try to avoid continuing to go to places where I've had poor service, but the food is just so great I can't help myself!
It was fine. Food was a bit pricey considering I considered it made properly but not necessary special; however service was friendly and attentive. Bathrooms were, eh, considering the recent renovations — 2 toilet paper holders and no hooks for a purse or jacket (I was leaving the premises); wondered how the floor was cleaned since it wasn’t tiled but some weird floor covering with a corner coming up at a seam. Drinks were good but I noticed that garnishes were a bit cheap for the premium pricing (the old fashioned was well made but the artificially colored, standard maraschino cherry diminished the specialness of the drink). It was a pleasant visit because it was a last minute reservation... but my overall impression was similar to going to a Not Your Average Joe’s or Carrabba, fine but not memorable.
We had a great time! It was a little hectic because there was a lot of snow outside, but the staff was courteous and professional. Our waiter, George, was diligent in checking up on us. Would definitely go back!
The service was just okay. We sat down and were given no menus and when we asked for some, they gave us one for three people. The food was not great either.
I was called an hour before our reservation saying that there was an issue with the sprinklers and they wouldn’t be opening until 11. We had to cancel our 10:15 reservation due to our scheduling. We never went to Cafeteria. I gave all 1 stars for this review because we never even went there, but I felt a comment was needed.
The new lighting in Cafeteria is so depressing. Way too florescent and bright. Please bring back the old warmer dim lightning. The rest of the renovations look & feel pretty nice!
Was tough as they were out of gluten free buns
I frequent cafeteria and love the food. They updated the dining room and suddenly a club soda costs $6!!!??? When I mentioned it to the staff they shrugged their shoulders. I could buy six cases of club soda for that price. Cafeteria- that needs to be adjusted! The mark up on soda in any restaurant is high- $6 is a joke.
My boyfriend had his first drink spilled all over his shirt for our Valentine's Day date. The ambiance was depressing because there were very few people there.
Loved it! Great food and drinks. Perfect brunch spor
I have dined here before and my past experiences have been more pleasant than this time around. Our waiter seemed to be annoyed and in a bad mood whenever we asked a question about the menu (we were asking about sweet potato fries and before I finished my question and quickly answered “no we don’t have it” in a rude manner). I do understand that this item was not on the menu but I still asked just in case. He just seemed upset and gave a bad service. I ordered a burger and it was dried and tasted old. If i ever go back, it will mainly be for drinks during the summer time.
Our server Jason was perfectly attentive, pleasant and informed. The chicken Milanese was incredible. Food was timely and hot.
It was way more expensive than before and very noisy. The service was good but I probably would not go there again or recommend it to friends. I liked how it was before the renovation.
Great atmosphere, quick service as always! And of course delicious food 😊
Had meat in my food we are vegetarian. Food was way over priced. I have had expensive priced food before and I don’t mind paying for it but this was not worth the money they charge. Side note they charge $2 for a side of mayo and 2$ for onions.
Went for brunch. Waiter service quick and hostess very good.
Bar drinks good
Food was just ok. Breakfast pancakes arrived cold.
Has to Ask for butter and syrup for pancakes
I thought the brunch dishes were quite expensive for what was served.
Will go again for drinks probably
They could fix the heater but the food was great.
Formerly one of my faves on Newbury has only disappointed recently. Ambience is no-existent. The lower level feels like an airport restaurant wedged into a sports bar with zero decor going on and very dated and ragged furniture competing with the large screen tv at high volume. Upstairs has great windows but the tables and chairs are ridiculously wobbly and the white table tops are so horribly stained from years of use it was troubling. Service on both visits (one lunch time and one evening) was super slow and orders were messed up (bacon on the egg sandwich when ham was requested, etc.) When their new linen napkin left my dress literally covered in white lint from chest to knees I got a shrug and a weak apology until I asked for a better solution and was given a roll of tape. Their outdoor dining is probably still great but I don't see myself coming back again after two back-to-back disappointments. Sorry to see this. I've always liked this place.
What an incredible experience a cafeteria! Best morning cocktails I’ve ever had. Best steak and eggs breakfast in Boston hands-down. Can’t wait to get back. Incredibly friendly accommodating staff on all levels. Just a solid cool place for a Saturday morning brunch.
Opentable had reservations available for Christmas Eve at 6:15pm, so I booked a table for 5 for my family. When we got to the restaurant, it was closed. Given it was Christmas Eve, it was hard to find an alternative at a moment's notice. Very disappointing to experience first hand the disconnect between Cafeteria and OpenTable.
It was very poor since when we got there it was closed and we were never infirmed
Kitchen turned out fantastic food as always. Terrible waiter and the bottom floor was freezing.
It is a lovely restaurant. Great brunch and location.
We sat by the door and it was really cold. Everything else was great though!
Food was good but not amazing service decent but not amazing. It’s solid but nothing out of the ordinary
poor service. mediocre food. waitress messed up the cocktail and still charged us for it. we split an appetizer and a pizza and left hungry. The prices are high for what you get. I will not be dining here again.
