Dining at Cafe Zola was really a disappointment on a number of levels.
1. We arrived at our reservation time, were seated, were served water, ordered wine, and were then ignored for 45 minutes. We were told that since it was white wine, it had to chill and it would be a while until it would be served. It was approximately one hour until it was served.
2. The wine was a sparkling type, but was not listed as such on the menu. Additionally the bartender who brought us the wine could not uncork the bottle and finally got another waiter to do it.
3. The main course I ordered, chicken, when it did arrive was very underdone, with red and pink spots throughout. By this time we just wanted to get out of there so did not bring it to the attention of the waitstaff.
One or two people did apologize, saying they were understaffed. Yes, it was a holiday, but if they can't get enough decent employees, they should not be open.
Food was excellent as always and our server was attentive without being intrusive.
Outstanding as always service a little poor vs in the past.
Returned after an excellent meal last time I was in town. Unfortunately, this experience was less impressive mostly because of terrible service. The menu is interesting with several nice dishes, but we were pretty frustrated with having to work so hard to get the server’s attention sometimes. And getting served the wrong dessert was very irritating
Great dinner and service!
Went here for restaurant week but however didn’t find anything to satisfy my taste buds so we left. The noise level was very quiet because no one was in there. Our server took a lightyear to come to our table, she didn’t know if they had Dr Pepper or not. All in all i gave it a three. I came for crepes but my crave unfulfilled due to it being dinner. They had us wait 10-15 minutes at our table because it was not 5pm yet when they were going to serve dinner.
Excellent as usual. Nothing better than a restaurant where the owners manage and work.
The waitress who served us was friendly, very professional and very attentive. She was excellent.
Have been to Zola a few times however the service was awkward and the food disappointing. Many better choices in AA.
beautiful nite to be dining outside....great wine
lobster salad in avocado great
husband loved his tuna tartar
bread pudding dessert outstanding
eggplant on toast...just fair
Food was great as always (we both had fish specials, trout and swordfish, both excellent; and the octopus appetizer was delicious also), but the $16 per glass Sancerre was very undistinguished.
not sure why we could not have booked an earlier reservation through Open Table, they were not busy with many open tables when we arrived early for a 2:15 pm reservation- wasn't needed, would have liked to eaten earlier
The menu was great - lots of choices for my pescatarian, gluten-free daughter and for my meat loving husband. The waitress was wonderful in accommodating my son's various food idiosyncrasies. The shrimp tacos were great, the cocktail sauce that came with our oysters was made with a wonderful homemade ketchup, and my salmon was perfectly cooked. Would definitely return.
Their brunch menu was fantastic. There is definitely room for large parties. The service was great. I definitely recommend this place. I will definitely come back!
One of my favorite brunch places in Ann Arbor. Everything I have ordered has been phenomenal. I am a huge fan of the blitz crepes - bourbon cherries on top! I highly recommend for a delicious brunch in a fun trendy atmosphere.
Limited menu for vegetarians.
The food was outstanding. The service was very, very slow. Our poor waitress seemed to have way too many tables. She was pleasant and sweet...but drink refills were slow and it was a long time between courses.
Menu is impressive with great choices of ethnic food but the actual authentic flavor is lacking. Portion sizes decent. The place offers a good environment for a large group to convene and have a good conversation and enjoy.
Turkish eggs, the waffles, salmon hash...crepes all sooo good!
We had a 7:15 pm reservation Thursday night of graduation weekend. We waited 45 minutes from our reservation time to be seated. We had to wait in a cramped, noisy area by the bar that had wait staff and customers constantly passing through. Once we were seated we were placed in a noisy corner that was difficult for the waitress to access. Consequently, the waitress did not get to our table often to check on us. There was never an apology from management for seating us so long after our reservation. The food was ok, but way over priced; $25 for penne with sausage. This place oversold the restaurant on graduation and cared little about the quality of the experience. Never going back.
Super delicious food, and incredibly kind and attentive staff! One of Ann Arbor’s gems
Unique and diverse menu. Something for everyone. Very nice wine list. Steaks cooked very well, great frites, halibut special very fresh and vegetables complimented it well. Our server was attentive and excellent. I will go back again.
Usually enjoy Cafe Zola...In the past, I have always found the ambience modern, cozy and unique. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was impacted by both service and food which surprised me given my past experience. Service was mediocre to poor with an impatient waitress refusing to take orders, forgetting to place orders, whispering to other wait stuff about the table guests, etc. Food was undercooked with raw rice and firm brussell sprouts.
In the past, my experience with Cafe Zola has always been above average to excellent...Unsure if this was an off night or what the problem was. Overall, I was disappointed.
Very nice server and food was delicious and restaurant was not too loud!
Easter Sunday Brunch at Zola's was wonderful. Nine of us gathered for brunch. We made reservations and walked in right on time as if we owned the place. Other than the noise factor, everthing else was terrific.
tight space for bigger parties, but awesome and expansive brunch menu that pleased all levels of the diet preferences in our group.
The staff was friendly and amazingly helpful. It was very busy Easter Sunday, but they helped us with handicapped accommodations and never stopped smiling. :-)
Friendly waitstaff, generous portions, delicious food.
It was delicious!
Wonderful Italian comfort food, top notch attentive yet discreet service!
I had a very disappointing experience at Cafe Zola. The restaurant was extremely hot and uncomfortable, and when we asked the hostess to open the door to let some air in, she obliged, but said that the owner keeps the place hot because she thinks people will order more drinks. Moreover, while several of our meals came out on time, and were good, two members of our party did not receive their meals until more than 40 minutes after the rest of us had. Another person's side dish took over an hour, and was not made correctly when it arrived. While the waitress was apologetic, the manager would barely listen to our complaint and she did not take either of the two delayed meals off of the bill -- or even apologize. I enjoyed my salad, but not enough to overcome the whole experience. I will not be going back.
Service was poor. They over filled my drink to the point where when I received it, it had spilled over the edge and the glass was sticky
The food was excellent, the octopus appetizer and the short ribs dinner in particular. The service was well done but the noise was really bothersome.
Always a wonderful brunch.
Service is excellent and very accommodating of business lunch schedules. The food came out quickly and every order in my large party was perfectly done.
I was hosting an important business lunch and everything exceeded my expectations! Thank you Cafe Zola for your attention to detail.
Service was good, food was just ok for the price.
Made a reservation and arrived with our party of 6 five minutes early. We checked in but were not seated until 25 minutes later than our reservation. This would have been easier if the space to wait in was more convenient but we were in the middle of traffic, service.
Once seated, All was great in the world- the server, the food and the company.
The food and ambiance were amazing. Our server was disinterested and seemed annoyed that she was training another server (the trainee was great). NOTE: beware of the reservation system for Cafe Zola, as it does not ensure your table will be ready at the time you reserved; a reservation just puts you at the beginning of the line for a table. They seem a bit overwhelmed by their success and are not handling the demand well in terms of service and managing the reservation system.
I was floored when I saw a ham and cheese omelette cost me $18.50. It would be one thing if this was NYC, but come on, people. We’re in Michigan. I’m hoping Gigi charged me wrong. Food and service were good, but I felt very ripped off.
