Cafe Verona Ratings and Reviews
We have dined here on several occasions and have always been completely satisfied with the food, service and Facilities. However, this last time there was food all over the floor around our table and the table next to us. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few days. Overall this is an excellent place to eat
I'm sure since it was the beginning of Restaurant week, it was really busy. But our service was terrible. We never got bread. Our drinks were only refilled when we flagged her down. We felt ignored. When we go back, I will make sure we don't get that server again. She was terrible.
Overall it was a good choice. We went for restaurant week and thought the value was good. The quality of the food was good. We had a very nice waitress- a bit slow at times but kind and interested in ensuring we had a good experience. They did not have a cold bottle of the sparkling wine we ordered and were offered an lesser quality option. We ended up ordering a higher priced bottle. In my experience, I would have expected a slight discount for the inconvenience but no discount was offered. My cousin’s steak was slightly over-cooked (asked for med-rare, received med to med-well) but my shrimp were cooked perfectly- not overcoooked and rubbery. Dessert was delicious- we had the cannoli trio and the cheesecake.
This was our first time and our last. We came from downtown because it was on the list for restaurant week and we wanted to try something new. First we were seated in a freezing corner and they weren’t too happy when we asked to move but admitted their heater wasn’t working in that room (it was 10 degrees out). Then our server was on his first night in training and I can sympathize, I was a server for years, but he didn’t know up from down. We got starters long after entrees and desserts in the middle of entrees. The plates piled up and were never cleared. The service was really distracting and just overall it was a pretty poor experience. The short rib ravioli was great, risotto was not good.
I have been wanting to try Cafe Verona for a while. Very nice looking place..the smell of the food was wonderful. Got there 30 mins early to try the bar, but there were tables available so we got seated. Our waitress must have been new....we didn’t see much of her and she was not very knowledgeable of the menu. Appetizers were very good. We both ordered the steak, mine was very under cooked borderline raw. My wife’s steak was perfect! I was going to send mine back but we didn’t see our waitress for some time so I just ate my potatoes and green beans and took the steak home for leftovers. I will say what I did have of the steak if was really tasty and my wife loved hers.
So with all this said we will go back one more time and try, but if we receive the same service we will not go back again and I will update this post. I do feel it was just an off night for the Cafe Verona staff, but we will see.
Food was mediocre. I usually get the Mac and cheese with the sirloin which is amazing but since there was the restaurant week menu decided to give the steak a try. It was bland and not very tender. Ordered the manhattan drink and it tasted like watered down whiskey and coke. Our server was new and he was doing his best but he could of used some help.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate special occasions. Every dish we ordered was delicious and beautiful. I especially love the spinach salad with walnut cranberries and goat cheese.
The staff were very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The ambiance and Italian style decorating adds to the experience.
I don't like to leave a bad review, but.. Our food was not good. We ordered the Chicken Carciofi (or artichoke). The chicken itself was unflavorable. The artichoke was clearly marinated and from a jar, as were the sun dried tomato, and calamata olives. This was not worth the $30 we paid.
The other dishes that were ordered, gorgonzola steak and seafood pasta, were ok. For dessert we ordered the lemon, berry cake with marscipone cheese.
It was ok, except the berries were frozen! Overall, we paid way too much for food that came out of a jar. The menu has potential, but missed the mark for us.
The service was great, but we were too cold. I'm sure it didnt help that we were seated by the window. Based on past reviews we had high hopes, but we would not recommend this restraunt.
Food was excellent! I've just returned from Italy and this was the perfect place to take me back to the flavors I loved ... the baked artichokes are amazing! The balsamic salad dressing is the best I've ever had ... in Europe or here at home. If you are longing for the tastes of Italia, you will not be disappointed! If only they served cafe latte in a clear glass, I'd never have to travel again. 😉
I made reservations for a special Date Night at Cafe Verona. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time. The food was good, and our server was polite and attentive. After we had finished eating, our plates were quickly cleared. We then paid our bill and were finishing up our glasses of wine, when we were approached at our table by the hostess. She asked if there was anything else we needed. I answered, "No thank you, we are just talking a bit while we finish our wine." She then says that they are running way behind on reservations, people are waiting for tables and that we would need to leave. We were both shocked, and stared back at her in disbelief. She wasn't joking. I then called the manager over. I told her that our food was delicious and our server was very good, but that never in my life had I ever been asked to leave a restaurant for any reason, let alone because they were "running behind". And that the inability of them to properly schedule reservations was not my problem. She stammered back some sort of explanation that they were indeed very busy and that they could really use the table. No apology was offered.
If we were loitering and remaining at the table long after we had finished, I could see the need to scoot us along. But we had literally just finished our meal when the hostess came by our table. The manager was inept when it came to smoothing things over. We will never be back, and will tell everyone we know about our experience there.
The quality of the food and the service were both noticeably lower than in prior visits. My salmon was overcooked, dry, and gummy, while my asparagus was tough. Even the iced tea was flawed; it was served without ice and no available sweetener. My friend had the daily special which was wonderful, and the lemon cake for dessert was quite good, as well. I'd heard that Cafe Verona was on the decline and I hope it's not true.
We love this place. But, we had gotten reservations through Open Table, and had asked that we sit outside, in the back, by the fountain. When we got there, they had no clue that we had made that request. Probably just didn't notice. Not sure why. We were finally seated near where we wanted outside. When we got appetizers, a different server than ours just dropped the food off without checking to see if we had utensils and plates, which we didn't. I waited for a couple minutes for our server to come by but finally had to get up and walk inside to get the plates and utensils. Everything tasted great. Server great. Food always excellent. Prices reasonable.
I meet friends here on occcasion & had forgotten how good the swordfish is. The risotto is lemony with artichokes & sun dried tomatoes. The red sangria is refreshing & tiramisu is layered in a big cup. You can't ask for a better dinner. Sarah provided the perfect amount of attention. I need to eat here more often.
