Cafe Verona Ratings and Reviews
I don't like to leave a bad review, but.. Our food was not good. We ordered the Chicken Carciofi (or artichoke). The chicken itself was unflavorable. The artichoke was clearly marinated and from a jar, as were the sun dried tomato, and calamata olives. This was not worth the $30 we paid.
The other dishes that were ordered, gorgonzola steak and seafood pasta, were ok. For dessert we ordered the lemon, berry cake with marscipone cheese.
It was ok, except the berries were frozen! Overall, we paid way too much for food that came out of a jar. The menu has potential, but missed the mark for us.
The service was great, but we were too cold. I'm sure it didnt help that we were seated by the window. Based on past reviews we had high hopes, but we would not recommend this restraunt.
Food was excellent! I've just returned from Italy and this was the perfect place to take me back to the flavors I loved ... the baked artichokes are amazing! The balsamic salad dressing is the best I've ever had ... in Europe or here at home. If you are longing for the tastes of Italia, you will not be disappointed! If only they served cafe latte in a clear glass, I'd never have to travel again. 😉
I made reservations for a special Date Night at Cafe Verona. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time. The food was good, and our server was polite and attentive. After we had finished eating, our plates were quickly cleared. We then paid our bill and were finishing up our glasses of wine, when we were approached at our table by the hostess. She asked if there was anything else we needed. I answered, "No thank you, we are just talking a bit while we finish our wine." She then says that they are running way behind on reservations, people are waiting for tables and that we would need to leave. We were both shocked, and stared back at her in disbelief. She wasn't joking. I then called the manager over. I told her that our food was delicious and our server was very good, but that never in my life had I ever been asked to leave a restaurant for any reason, let alone because they were "running behind". And that the inability of them to properly schedule reservations was not my problem. She stammered back some sort of explanation that they were indeed very busy and that they could really use the table. No apology was offered.
If we were loitering and remaining at the table long after we had finished, I could see the need to scoot us along. But we had literally just finished our meal when the hostess came by our table. The manager was inept when it came to smoothing things over. We will never be back, and will tell everyone we know about our experience there.
The quality of the food and the service were both noticeably lower than in prior visits. My salmon was overcooked, dry, and gummy, while my asparagus was tough. Even the iced tea was flawed; it was served without ice and no available sweetener. My friend had the daily special which was wonderful, and the lemon cake for dessert was quite good, as well. I'd heard that Cafe Verona was on the decline and I hope it's not true.
We love this place. But, we had gotten reservations through Open Table, and had asked that we sit outside, in the back, by the fountain. When we got there, they had no clue that we had made that request. Probably just didn't notice. Not sure why. We were finally seated near where we wanted outside. When we got appetizers, a different server than ours just dropped the food off without checking to see if we had utensils and plates, which we didn't. I waited for a couple minutes for our server to come by but finally had to get up and walk inside to get the plates and utensils. Everything tasted great. Server great. Food always excellent. Prices reasonable.
I meet friends here on occcasion & had forgotten how good the swordfish is. The risotto is lemony with artichokes & sun dried tomatoes. The red sangria is refreshing & tiramisu is layered in a big cup. You can't ask for a better dinner. Sarah provided the perfect amount of attention. I need to eat here more often.
We were looking for a local gem and found one here. It reminded us of a European cafe. We were prompt for our reservation and immediately seated at an intimate table.
We enjoyed the nice salad and fresh homemade bread and focaccia. The entrees(Rustico) were very flavorful and reasonably priced. We were traveling and never would have found this without Open Table. Thanks! It was a wonderful experience.
Overall, this is a fantastic gem on the historic Independence Square. My entire family had a very relaxing and enjoyable dinner in a very family friendly environment. The food was as good as any Italian food one can find in the KC metro. Worth the trip, will be back soon.
Small Italian restaurant in the heart of Independence. Arrived a little early but got seated right away. Plenty of options to choose from on the menu. A little disappointed on our entrées. Ordered the olive bowl (somehow miss read the menu and inserted olive oil bowl). Waitress very nice and took it off our bill. She was pretty attentive. I ordered the baked rustico bowtie and it was ok but lacked flavor and the cheese sauce was runny. Had very little chicken in it. My husband got the grilled gorgonzola strip. He said that strip was pretty good but the potatoes that he got were lacking a lot of flavor. They definitely weren't the garlic roasted potatoes that he was supposed to get. We would try this place again but definitely try something different.
Chicken Parmigiana was fantastic! Sat outside, it was relaxing and beautiful. Didn't have silverware or salt and peppers shakers but they were supplied when requested. Fortunate to have perfect weather so we could enjoy the patio. Lasagna had been my favorite here but the chicken parmigiana is now the best!
Delightful evening to celebrate my 36th wedding anniversary. Got seated right away. Half price wine during happy hour. Ordered the bacon and 3 cheese mushrooms as an appetizer. Delicious. Bread was delicious as well and was refilled. We had excellent service and the waitress was very attentive. Dinner was good and the portions were generous. The waitress brought us complimentary dessert to top off our dinner and it was delicious. This was our first visit to Cafe Verona and we will definitely go back.
We enjoyed the flavors of our food very much and were not disappointed in the selections we made. My wife had the lobster ravioli which was delicious, but it arrived at our table lukewarm while my pasta selection was nice and hot as you would expect. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming but the other staff person who actually brought our meals pretty much slammed the plates down on the table and slid them in front of us. Our first visit here was about a year ago, as that is about how often we are in the area, and we were excited to come here again as the food so impressed us. Hope to enjoy it again during our next visit.
I am very sorry we did not eat there , we went to Ophelia's instead. they were able to seat the 14 of us at one table. We were under the impression that the reservation was cancelled. we did cancelled one under H.S. Sorry for any inconvience. I have been to Cafe Verona in
Brookside it was wonderful.
