Cafe Verona is a consisently good choice for Italian food in a little more upscale setting than the other good Independence Italian spots. Food is excellent, lots and lots of choices, great wine list and all in a very classy setting with great servers.
Excellent restaurant with quality food. Will continue to eat there...
My favorite Italian restaurant in the entire Kansas City area. The food and atmosphere are always worth a visit. The food tonight was exceptional as always.
Wow! What a gem in Independence! We happened on this spot via OpenTable . . .and what a happy surprise! The food is outstanding - at a very reasonable price. Do the antipasto as your appetizer . . .it is perfect . . . and then we did one of the specials and the Rigatoni Sausage Rosa. Both delicious. Even our teenage son loved his meal. You get a good amount of food for the price . . . service was outstanding . . .TRY THIS SPOT!
Cozy dining with terrific food, service, wine and happy staff.
Overall good food & wonderful service. Not busy on a cold weeknight, would definitely go back when in the area.
We love this place. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great service. All around GREAT
As always, the restaurant provided great service and great food.
I visited Cafe Verona one evening with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed our meals. Everything was priced just right, and I would recommend everyone to give it a try at least once.
wonderful atmosphere great waiter Kyle B very attentive and prompt
Cafe Verona is a wonderful place to go for special occasions or just a great lunch or dinner. The service and food are great
Server was rushing us the whole night. Never brought a cup for a beer that was ordered. Always had to ask for dirty dishes to be taken away and refills to be made. Food was good. Chicken parmesan needed more sauce and cheese. The table next to us got more sauce and cheese for theirs but our server never came back so we weren’t able to ask for more. Server wasn’t as friendly as she should’ve been.
Been going to Verona's for several years. They have had serious up and down periods with help, seemed to try and get by with teen age kids, really crashed and burned then. Past half dozen times have been much better. Food consistently good and service and servers seemed more experienced and attentive.
Great food and a great experience
We went during restaurant week and that's why I am giving 2 stars for service instead of 1. The food took forever to come out but that's how it goes during restaurant week. Tried to order the cheesecake and they were out of it which was disappointing. Appetizers were great and we ordered steaks. The steaks were good once we got to eat them. Our food was brought out and set in front of us, however, we could not eat without knives to cut our steaks. After five minutes our server came by to tell us that all their steak knives were being used and they would bring us one when they could. I decided to time it. 14 minutes later we got knives and we're able to eat our food that we had stared at for 19 minutes. All of this while we watched people seated after us eating their steaks with knives. This restaurant should order more steak knives. It would be smart to have as many as you have chairs because you never know. Always best to be prepared. The food was good though. I would try it again so hopefully I can change this review in the future.
From start to finish, this was a very poor experience. We were even warned to not stay from 3 (no joke!) other tables that were leaving as we sat down. We should've listened. Poor service, old and cold food was placed on the table each course. What a darling little place, that I will never visit again.
The appetizers were very good..I would go back just for that..only concern would be the char flavor on the steak.
It has been a very long time I have sent food back, uneaten, because it was so bad. Our apps were good, our drinks were good, desert was acceptable, but the main course was terrible. My wife's meal had very little taste. What taste was there was nothing but chicken broth soaked limp soggy noddles. My steak was cooked closed to desired temperature. However, it tastes as if it was rolled around in dirt. It was gritty and tough. It somehow was charred black on the bottom and the bacon was burned as well. The potatoes texture was similar to instant potatoes and the sauce was bad. We both asked our food to be taken away and that it was uneatable and our sever could have cared less. He took it away without even asking what was wrong with it or asking any follow-up questions. I know bad food happens, I have never until now had or heard of an experience where nothing was offered to make it right. After he left we expected to see a manager or someone come by, but never happened. Had high hopes, but won't be back. Will also make sure anyone asking or talking about Italian knows our experience, hopefully to save them some time, money, and their date night. Ours was rubbed in the dirt along with the steak.
Food was impeccable, ambience great. Over all fantastic!
I had never been, despite having lived in the area for years. Saw the menu for restaurant week and gave it a try-the short rib ravioli was so amazing I tried to go back today with family-didn’t realize they are closed on Sunday! Will go back soon.
Visited during KC Restaurant Week and had the special menu - goat cheese bruschetta, Gorgonzola striploin, and raspberry ricotta cheesecake. Dessert was especially delightful and if still on the menu, you must try!
I always have a delicious meal when I eat here for date night, but we brought our 5 year old son here the other night with us, and he had the best kids meal! I was so impressed! He ordered a fruit cup and it was a bowl filled with blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries instead of the gross honeydew melon stuff they usually give you at other restaurants. His grilled cheese was made with yummy mozzarella and provolone instead of those kraft singles, and I appreciated that while it was a nicer grilled cheese it was still kid friendly and they didn't put other salad type foods in the grilled cheese and the bread didn't have "things" in it. It's so hard to find a nice restaurant with a good kids meal. My son has been begging to go back.
We attended during Restaurant Week and prior to seeing "Big Sonia" at the Truman Library. We REALLY appreciated being able to share the meal as there was far more food than either one of us should have eaten alone. The young man who served us was pleasant, attentive (without being intrusive), and efficient. We really enjoyed the food, wine, service, and atmosphere.
Excellent! Great selection of soup, starters & mains. Well prepared, nice presentations.
Unfortunately I think I had a touch
Outstanding dining quality. Food was beyond fabulous. Service was friendly and engaging. It was a superb experience.
Really good food and service. We will definitely be returning soon!!
We have dined here on several occasions and have always been completely satisfied with the food, service and Facilities. However, this last time there was food all over the floor around our table and the table next to us. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few days. Overall this is an excellent place to eat
I'm sure since it was the beginning of Restaurant week, it was really busy. But our service was terrible. We never got bread. Our drinks were only refilled when we flagged her down. We felt ignored. When we go back, I will make sure we don't get that server again. She was terrible.
Overall it was a good choice. We went for restaurant week and thought the value was good. The quality of the food was good. We had a very nice waitress- a bit slow at times but kind and interested in ensuring we had a good experience. They did not have a cold bottle of the sparkling wine we ordered and were offered an lesser quality option. We ended up ordering a higher priced bottle. In my experience, I would have expected a slight discount for the inconvenience but no discount was offered. My cousin’s steak was slightly over-cooked (asked for med-rare, received med to med-well) but my shrimp were cooked perfectly- not overcoooked and rubbery. Dessert was delicious- we had the cannoli trio and the cheesecake.
This was our first time and our last. We came from downtown because it was on the list for restaurant week and we wanted to try something new. First we were seated in a freezing corner and they weren’t too happy when we asked to move but admitted their heater wasn’t working in that room (it was 10 degrees out). Then our server was on his first night in training and I can sympathize, I was a server for years, but he didn’t know up from down. We got starters long after entrees and desserts in the middle of entrees. The plates piled up and were never cleared. The service was really distracting and just overall it was a pretty poor experience. The short rib ravioli was great, risotto was not good.
I have been wanting to try Cafe Verona for a while. Very nice looking place..the smell of the food was wonderful. Got there 30 mins early to try the bar, but there were tables available so we got seated. Our waitress must have been new....we didn’t see much of her and she was not very knowledgeable of the menu. Appetizers were very good. We both ordered the steak, mine was very under cooked borderline raw. My wife’s steak was perfect! I was going to send mine back but we didn’t see our waitress for some time so I just ate my potatoes and green beans and took the steak home for leftovers. I will say what I did have of the steak if was really tasty and my wife loved hers.
So with all this said we will go back one more time and try, but if we receive the same service we will not go back again and I will update this post. I do feel it was just an off night for the Cafe Verona staff, but we will see.
Food was mediocre. I usually get the Mac and cheese with the sirloin which is amazing but since there was the restaurant week menu decided to give the steak a try. It was bland and not very tender. Ordered the manhattan drink and it tasted like watered down whiskey and coke. Our server was new and he was doing his best but he could of used some help.
We ran across this gem when we were taking our son to the KCI airport 6months ago. We loved it and thought would be a wonderful New Year's place.
So we booked reservations and headed to KC from Derby Kansas for the Holiday weekend. It was a wonderful experience once again. The food was terrific and the atmosphere was great too. It was a little chilly where we sat but the weather outside was a contributing factor. Totally beyond their control. Thanks again for a wonderful evening.
We went to Cafe Verona for News Years Eve and had a wonderful experience. Our server was Allie and she was very bubbly and friendly. She knew about all the specials and gave us really good service. Food was wonderful!
Seated by the window. Very cold. Service was not up to par. Servers seemed to be confused as to who had our table. Not very attentive. Not the experience was usually have there.
Nice and quiet great food amazing ambiance.
My favorite is that Mac n Cheese with Filet. I can never finish it all so the next day always means a great lunch. Yum.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate special occasions. Every dish we ordered was delicious and beautiful. I especially love the spinach salad with walnut cranberries and goat cheese.
The staff were very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The ambiance and Italian style decorating adds to the experience.
Didn’t care for the chicken cheese soup—- too rich
