Overall very good, as always! Server was a little awkward but great experience overall.
I had a wonderful time at Cafe Verona - the food was absolutely wonderful and served hot. From the appetizers to the dessert, every single dish was fire. The scene is beautiful but the ambiance is a little loud as it is directly located next to the road. But this place is absolutely a must visit if you're in the area, or coming through LA PERIOD.
The antipasto was an assortment of great quality ingredients. Salmon with orange sauce to die for. And the truffle oil fettuccine alfredo with added chicken was glorious. I would definitely come back again and again.
Cozy and romantic, risotto was amazing
It was great! Not over busy, not too loud, nice waitresses and waiters, and great food!
Lovely restaurant for Valentine’s Day dinner! Cute and cozy, I’ll definitely be back!
Gem of a restaurant. Food is authentic and delicious! loved it. Our waitress Michelle was lovely and guided us through the menu, very knowledgeable and super friendly. Can't wait to go back.
The food was just ok. It was cool out and they didn’t have the heaters on. It’s loud being out on the street, lots of interruptions from sirens.
My complaint is about the servers.
Our server must have been inexperienced. Our server had to be asked to bring the next course, remove empty plates, etc.
I was shocked when I saw another server give a huge cough into his hands and without going to wash them, picked up plates and served diners. Ew!!!!
Food was excellent, service was excellent
Truly lives up to the name neighborhood gem
It was my mother's birthday, and they were very nice and accommodating to ensure a great evening and meal.
Very nice restaurant with authentic Italian food (for the most part). Very quite and cozy. The only downside is the value for some plates. I think most plates are reasonably priced but there are a few plates, mostly appetizers, that are a little too expensive for what they are.
The location, busy La Brea Avenue and 2nd, adjacent Valvoline Oil Change, kept me driving by until a friend recommended a try. Small sidewalk tables and others "inside" sheer curtained enclosures. The atmosphere is kind of rustic-funky al fresco. The offerings are sophisticated home-style Italian classics... Very ambitious but not well enough executed to justify prices appropriate elsewhere. Octopus salad, shared, was our starter; it was more than ample, but the large chunks were overcooked and salt overwhelmed otherwise excellent seasoning. Tagliatelle, unevenly cooked, came with well-prepared mushrooms, in all, bland and much too oily. Gnocchi, the best thing at our table, was excellent, except, it too, was so oily. Service was inattentive and perfunctory. Portions are enormous and should be reduced by at least one third... likewise, the prices. A disappointment because there is talent in the kitchen.
According to the menu, Cafe Verona has been operating for 18 years, and apparently it didn't need A/C until the nearly 100-degree day we last visited (our second meal there). It is basically a hard-working kitchen with two enclosed patios on either side of a corner property. You can tell how good the food is, as even on the sweltering Tuesday there were plenty of patrons who were dining there instead of watching World Series Game 1 somewhere. There was also, inexplicably, an open flame heater outside the entrance as we left. All this aside, the four of us were enchanted by the food; every dish was excellent, well made and presented in a lovely manner. Don't go by the photos of the desserts; the two we tried looked much better in real life and were delicious (peach tart and some chocolate concoction). Wait service and busing service were timely, efficient and gracious. We will definitely visit again, probably when it is cooler.
What a great place! From the food all the way to the outstanding service. Would definitely meet and eat there again.
Food was frozen on the inside - completely undercooked. Pasta with salmon also undercooked. Part of it was cold. I was very disappointed. I liked the ambiance.
Mediocre food, absolutely no ambiance. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the patio and not in the cool LA trendy way. Everything was over salted. It looked so charming from the street but I was very disappointed and will not be coming back.
Nice ambiance but sadly the pasta a bland. Their sauces were disapointing.
I made an online reservation. The restaurant was closed for vacation. I am from Chicago, I ate here the last time I was in town and it was an excellent dining experience.
Closed until Sept 11 but OpenTable lets you make phantom reservations.
Great food service and atmosphere
We ate early dinner at Cafe Verona on Sunday on our way to the Hollywood Bowl. It is a neighborhood gem. A small, Italian cafe with excellent service and great food. We will be back.
Charming setting, comfortable and low-key. Food agreeable and attractively served. Good-sized glasses of wine. Unhurried, easy to talk across table. Enthusiastic servers. Tempting, varied menu. Altogether, a most pleasant experience.
Specials were amazing
The food was really great and the ambiance was super cute!
There were a ton of flies on the garden side so we switched to the other side and it was much better
Outstanding food and wonderful environment
Neighborhood Italian restaurant that is relatively inexpensive and easy standby. Great secluded patio space.
Wish there were more menu choices, especially vegetarian.
Momo went above and beyond with his service, and I basically licked my plate clean
I've been here 3 times. Always delicious food, and beautiful patio space. The service can be a bit slow if they are busy, so if you go at a popular time, don't be in a hurry.
Terrible food -- rubbery chicken breast on a small bed of spinach, with the other promised ingredients mostly missing. Slow service, with too few servers, and no one who knew how to answer questions. Barely any patrons, and still the kitchen couldn't handle our orders and took over 45 minutes to make a salad. Dessert menu is frozen items from a national Italian dessert supplier. Skip dessert -- and skip Cafe Verona.
Service was fantastic.
Seafood pasta had good flavor but was served lukewarm rather than hot and fresh.
Had a delicious dinner, my wife and I shared mussels and clams for an appetizer and our main was chicken parmagiana and veal piccata. our waitress Tiffany could not have been any better.
Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Our server was unbelievably rude and abrasive toward us from when we walked in to the end of the meal.
I really have no idea what is going on with this restaurant - previously, lovely meals, especially breakfast / brunch on the weekends. Absolutely downhill - server who barely spoke English, two people dining and breakfast foods brought out 10 minutes apart, food was cold and had to be sent back - twice, check brought (or a version thereof) without it being added up or printed out - just the orders handwritten with the prices. We actually had to explain this to the server. There were only two other diners in the restaurant at the time. Will absolutely never go back.
This place is not cozy nor ideal for any type of special occasion/date. My wife and I were sat on the outside, on New Year's Eve, in 50 degree whether, mind you. While it was freezing, we figured we'd stay because the amount of seating available was not up to them, so we overlooked that. We also overlooked the noise level that carries over from vehicles speeding down La Brea, we gave this place the benefit of the doubt anyway. And that was our mistake. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes for anyone to come around and even ask us for drinks. We were sat and for 20 minutes, no one came around. Not a single soul. Really? The worst service. We asked the couple next to us (we were the only 2 couples sitting outside) how their service was and they proceeded to say their service was extremely slow, too. Unacceptable. My wife and I got up, and we walked out without saying a word and we went somewhere else. We definitely won't be trying this place again.
Went there for New Year's Eve dinner. Loved the style of the place with all the plants, makes for a cool experience. Small/tight space but that didn't really bother me. I think only one waitress was there, didn't check on us much or ask if we needed anything and I think they forgot to give us the bill, had a hard time flagging someone down. I mean it was decently busy for one waitress to be working. Even though service was slow, I'd still go back the food was amazing!!
My favorite Italian in LA! Amazing food, the staff are the quintessential charismatic Italian type! Our waiter was hilarious and gave us great service. The fried zucchini is to die for as is the fettuccini I've had twice here. Tiramisu for dessert was amazing. Casual atmosphere with Twinkly string lights for ambiance. Love!!!!
Great food and great staff! Will definitely be a regular spot for us from now on!
