Bistro
A Classic French Bistro in the heart of Edison Park has been a dream of Executive Chef and owner Joe Calabrese for several years. Joe was professionally trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York. Before opening his other restaurant, Zia’s Trattoria (located one block west of Café Touché at 6699 N. Northwest Highway) in 1997, he was sharpening his professional – and knife – skills at several well-respected Chicago dining establishments including Ambria, Spiagia, Un Grand Cafe and the Park Hyatt. Joe lives in Park Ridge, a few short miles from the restaurants, so expet to see him in both restaurants assuring a quality experience for his customers. On days off, Joe can be found at home with his wife, Mary Kay and their 3 boys. Reservations by phone: 773-775-0909. The only reservation restrictions are on Friday and Saturday, parties of five or more only. Café Touché is located at 6731 N. Northwest Highway, Chicago (Edison Park), I

The food and beverage selection was excellent!
It was a little too dark inside the restaurant. I didn't have any issues but I noticed some older people at other tables were using their phones for lighting, and my friend who I brought mentioned the print on the menus was too small.
But with the pandemic precautions still in place I felt safe and had a wonderful time.

I have also had takeout from Cafe Touche and the food was excellent aswell.

It was a beautiful fall evening, they have a tent or outdoor open space with very effective heaters....inside was also very well spaced out. The heaters worked so well we asked to have them turned down. Food and service was amazing as always. This place never ever disappoints.

CT is a regular stop for us and the very nice and heated outdoor dining makes it a great place to dine during the pandemic. On Saturday they made up a plate of linguini for us in white and with the mussel appetizer mixed end made for a wonderful entre. The entire wait staff is always ecellent and we find it to be a good value.

COVID is a struggle for restaurants and I'm really aware of that because I have family in the business. However, our service wasn't very attentive and I didn't feel that I got a $200+ value (incl tax and a 18% tip) for 2 who were dining and drinking on the sidewalk. Portions were excellent so I have no complaint there. Given the high quality of the reviews, I have to assume that it was an off night or another casualty of the difficulty of putting on a good experience in a challenging scenario.

I’ve always liked this restaurant and I hope it survives COVID, but it doesn’t seem terribly safe. The tables outside are very close together— like 2 feet apart, not six. Most people were drinking, which tends to make people shout and laugh more and generally spew their germs farther. Not sure I will be back. Maybe at an off day and hour, when it won’t be as crowded.

The food, as always, was excellent. Had the French onion soup, escargot and Jambalaya, which I also enjoyed the next day. Our server was top notch.

I was a little disappointed with the reservation system. We arrived on time and were told there were two reservations ahead of us. They also said they were more of a "first-come; first-served" kind of place. If that's the case, why take reservations? The tables were too close together for social distancing and they were all full as was the bar. The kitchen staff was maskless and our waiter's mask was ill-fitting and always hanging at his chin. He was very pleasant but with the noise, he would lean in to hear us and I felt like a sitting duck. I love absolutely love their French food especially the escargot and mussels. I do wish their entrees were more traditionally French and not a hodgepodge of French, Italian, and Cajun. But the appetizers would bring me back every time. So overall, I rated the food 5 stars but the service was only 3 stars. PS the cocktail called the Murder Hornet was off the charts amazing.

Dinner service took 2 1/2 hours for just 2 of us. Our server though pleasant never explained the restaurant menu week or for that matter anything else.
My salad (part of the Prix Fixe menu) was drowning in dressing - thankfully it was dark so I couldn't see what it really looked like.
Our dessert arrived before our entre. Our waiter was surprised we did not have our dinners. Finally those arrived but my Pork Medallions (part of the Prix Fixe menu) were dry and in a very heavy sauce that had absolutely no flavor.
About the only thing good was the bottle of Cote du Rhone that we ordered and the 2 bonus glasses we received as an apology for the slow service and entre confusion.
This was our first time here for dinner and we were very disappointed. We have attended brunch several times and have always had wonderful food.

Salad Nicoise
Disappointed:
too much dressing
too salty
didn't have green beans or cherry tomatoes
salad wasn't crunchy enough (should have been boston bibb)

Still a great place just don't order this salad

There for Sunday brunch. Everything is great but two things: they should have peppermint oil on hand for a non toxic response to bee season. Many outdoor patios have this. Also the quality of the coffee needs to be upgraded. It would make all the difference in the draw of return visits and word of mouth.

All protocols to keep people safe during the pandemic are in place. Service was excellent and the ambiance outside under the cafe lights was wonderful. We skipped the appetizers and went right for the pork, and the chicken from the forest (rough translation). Both were delicious. We saved room for the delicious bread pudding.
