Cafe Terra Cotta Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Cafe on Saturday, 22 January. This was a joint birthday celebration for 2 members of our family (we had a total of 6 in our party).
Christian was our waiter and made us feel incredibly welcome. From the opening champagne toast to menu recommendations, his service was attentive, warm, and helpful. We were able to enjoy a truly festive meal (more than half the table took advantage of the spaghetti squash entree) and still make our performance at the Town Hall Theatre down the street.
This is the second time that my sister-in-law and I have had Christian as our waiter - and we'd recommend him to anyone who dines at the Cafe.
Cozy atmosphere, great food, attentive service...I had the scallops, my husband had the lamb chops both were excellent. We started with the mussels in a tomato chorizo sauce which was also excellent. Everything was so delicious including our cocktails and bottle of Super Tuscan. So we splurged for a no occasion night out and it was a bit pricy but well worth it. Definitely need reservations.
WE met some friends for dinner Saturday night and had a very nice evening. We all had different menu items and everything was very well prepared, service was good and the food was great.
The only problem is the Cafe TC is rather small and the background noise is loud. There was one table who were especially enjoying themselves and after they left the noise level was better but still difficult to have conversations without speaking up. It is more enjoyable when the outdoor area is open. Still a great place.
Although we had great drinks and meals, it was uncharacteristicly loud in the restaurant this time. Cafe Terracotta is usually a relatively quiet restaurant, but last Saturday was so loud that we could barely hear each other. Otherwise, it was a great experience - food, drinks, and very attentive wait staff!
For a restaurant that should tilt toward the high end, there were a couple of food problems. Number 1: The risotto in the scallops and risotto is sticky rice. A mass of rice in a clump. To me risotto implies arboreo rice cooked for twenty minutes, after being browned in oil to make a rice pilaf, slowly adding liquid to bring the starch out of the rice to make its own sauce. Arboreo rice cooked like this will not clump together. My 88 year old mother kept complaining that the food was bad, the rice especially. Good thing we had ordered the crispy Brussels sprouts for an appetizer, which were excellent, so I could add them to her plate of “risotto.” Number 2: The fingerling potato slices in my duck confit were burnt and black. The duck was good but the leg/thigh was very small. Not much meat at all. I have been to Cafe Terra Cotta before and like it. This dinner was disappointing.
What a great restaurant for a special occasion or romantic night out!! In an updated historic house with 12 tables, some bar seating, and a few outdoor tables. Great entries developed by an exceptional chef. The bread, crab cakes appetizer, and short ribs dinner were superb. Even the house Cabernet was exceptional. What a find!!
We have eaten here many times in the past but generally outside. Inside, on this night, the noise was just horrible. We could not hear each other talk. My ears were ringing. The food was just OK which was surprising. We had the chicken wellington and the halibut. Both were dry. Service was great, wine was great. We ended up eating as fast as we could and left to get away from the noise. In the future we'll just dine here when the weather is good enough to eat outside.
I Have been to Terra Cotta several times for lunch and enjoyed each and every one. This was my first dinner at Terra Cotta and it was delightful. Pleasant atmosphere, great service (thank you Rob!), superb meal, and delish cocktails. I have recommended this destinations to others for dinner as well as lunch!
I am always pleased with my experience at Cafe Terra Cotta. The food and service have always been great. I just wish there was a way to create an atmosphere that is a bit quieter. It was a packed house that night and my group of 7 could hardly hear if someone across the table spoke at times.
My husband and I had our first date there 7 years ago. Have gone back for our “anniversary” most years since. We’re disappointed this year. Menu stagnant and very limited. Service was just adequate and food was ok. Sorry to not be able to report better. Will have to give serious consideration before going back for dinner again. Will note, however, that breakfast and lunch there still are strong.
We have been to and enjoyed this old historic home in Old Littleton which has been converted to a classy eating and socializing environment many times over the past few years. After this last visit, were were not satisfied as we had in the past. We usually would get the Walleye entree, but they no longer have it, and the other entree choices just did not rock our world like the Walleye did. Also no longer on the menu, which was amazing, was the Nanaimo Bar for dessert.
Terra Cotta has a lot of nice features and flavors and a great feel, so it is worth a try. We hope the management gets this memo and puts those items back on the menu.
