About
I took a friend to Cafe Stella for his birthday. I've lived in the area for 17 years and have always wanted to try the place. The hostess was very warm and professional. However, once we were seated, we were either ignored, and we were were ghosted and subjected to one rude server (not our main server) who rolled her eyes and shot daggers at us when we asked for more bread.
In all fairness for this review, the food and ambiance were great. The problem here was the service and lack of attention. I don't need lots of it, but I do want to be treated well. This is a systemic problem in many Silverlake restaurants where the waiters just don't seem to want to be bothered with the essentials of their job. If the service was reasonably attentive, I would have raved about the place.
Really good food, fabulous presentation and comfortable, quaint, picturesque and quiet environment. Worth going out of one's way for.
Always amazing, everything!
For the quality of the food we received the price was way too high.
The ambiance of this lovely little spot is awesome - but it couldn't compensate for an over cooked piece of dry halibut - 30+ $ and a ribeye steak 40+ ordered medium rare that was absolutely killed. There wasn't a bit of pink to be found.
Props to our server Sophie - who was pleasant attentive and exceptional - other than that - food was very disappointing.
Do better Stella! Time for a spruce up.
Good but totally overpriced now that they have raised their price...
We came to cafe stella for my brother’s birthday and our waitress Sophie made it such a special experience. The service and food were amazing and I was grateful for the vegan options.
The atmosphere is great. We love the food, especially the bread and moules frites. Only complaint would be that $15 is too high for valet parking.
I love Cafe Stella for its ambience and authentic decor, it’s excellent food and satisfying dining experiences. I have my favorite tables, so depending on how large or small my group is, I usually request my preferred tables - and it works!
Restaurant has a great vibe; I like the ambiance and decor - however the noise the in bar was terrible - both bars front and back. Why do they always have to have the music on so loud you can't talk? Our food was really good - but not excellent. For the prices they charge, it should be PERFECT. My filet was tepid in temperature - and for what it cost, that's unacceptable. The onion soup was delicious - and my cocktail perfect. But the steak simply wasn't hot enough... I'd try it again. It has great potential - but again, it's not inexpensive and when they charge a premium, the preparation needs to be flawless.
Always delicious. I will come here on any special occasion - Dinner is my fave here. The bar is great too - Fun on a Sunday afternoon.
Terrible service. Was ignored from the point we ordered to dropping the check and it wasn’t very busy. We asked about the wine and the inky description was that it was fantastic; it was also sweet. The food was decent. Our filet mignon was overcooked, we wanted to send it back but we got no attention, no service from our waiter so we just ate it. We still had our appetizer plates on the table when our check was dropped. No change of silverware or dirty share plates for the entrees, nor did we get poured wine once from our expensive bottle or asked how things were going, not once by our waiter or anyone else. Used to love this place, but sadly have been soured by this experience. Mind as well have gotten counter service somewhere else was the feeling we left with.
The waiter was rude. There was a dog in the restaurant. Turned out to be the owners dog. The fish was over cooked. The chicken was cold.
Horrible Horrible Horrible Horrible
Waiting for our order for 45 minutes. We left without eating..... ridiculous, overpriced, fake ambiance, never ever we will recommend this place. Quite opposite. And it was our special evening. First time there, last time for sure.
Cafe Stella is the best French bistro-y experience in LA--bar none. I quite loved Morel's at the Grove but this is light years ahead of that (RIP). The wine is exquisite, the food is perfect, the service is excellent (and the waitstaff is composed of some really interesting people). Dark, hushed, exquisite decor--Stella is everything you would ever want from dining out. Just...creep in quietly, and don't bring TOO many people...I don't wanna ruin this place!
Best vibe in Silverlake and incredible staff (in the restaurant). The bar is a little less enjoyable but still a nice atmosphere.
I love CS for its French atmosphere and wonderful food. However you now get a gratuity added to your bill for the kitchen staff. Not your choice. I don’t like that.
Check out the Yelp reviews. I wish I had. They're UNBELIEVABLY AWFUL. The worst service I have ever had. It was my bf's birthday. 2 of us. A nice start, great salad, Kir Royale's, then entrees came. I wanted to send my plate back, but the waiter never came back to the table. Totally ignored while he waited attentively on other tables. I asked support staff to please send our waiter over. Watched him relay the message, but nothing. Finally, the table was cleared, except for my plate, when I told him my dish wasn't right, he huffed, ignored me and said, "Coffee or dessert?" Ib left him a $5 tip on a $128 check with a note that said "i wish we'd had the service the table next to us received." 10 minutes later, we're walking a block down the street and I hear someone yelling at us from behind. Yeah, the waiter chased us down the street. Screaming that he wished he'd left my pasta on the bill, that we'd be even then. I was in shock and told him that we'd be even if he came to my job and sat patiently while i ignored him for an hour, all while waiting on everyone around him. I said I was heading back to the restaurant to speak to the manager. He then lied and said he was the manager. He wasn't. I will never recommend this place.
this is an overpriced restaurant in which the personelle consists clearly just of freelancing self proclaimed artists with no plan how to manage a venue and no knowledge on ingredients, preparation methods, and hospitality. go if you want to be an LA doodle who wants to show off your money and your non existent sophistication
This was our third or fourth time back at Cafe Stella in the past few months. It's a gem of a restaurant. Reminds me of some of my favorite places in France. I can't recommend it highly enough!
Love the place. This is my 4th time at this place and it's my first time that I have been made to wait for my party to be sat. It would have been fine if I didn't see that another person was seated and served a drink while waiting for his party to arrive. This whole waiting for the entire party to arrive before being sat takes away a bit from the experience.
Won’t be back
Very romantic with great food and cocktails. We love going there for special occasions.
The food was delicious. The valet parking was expensive-$15, but very convenient. At times, the music was so loud I could not hear my dinner guests’ conversation.
Excellent service. Great wines and food!
The food was okay but overpriced. If the food was better it would make sense how small the portions were.
Really gone down hill. Used to be great. Now, not so much. It’s too bad really. Sent my mussels back - they weren’t cooked. Bartenders are nice.
One of our favorite date night restaurants. Always delicious.
One of the first upscale restaurants in Silverlake prior to the unfortunate gentrification of the neighborhood, the restaurant is still there and still great. Always enjoy our meal, great wine list and professional, friendly service.
I love Cafe Stella. We go every year for my birthday. So it’s especially disappointing that the quality has gone down. The staff are fantastic but the food isn’t up to par. Which is a huge bummer because Cafe Stella is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Dunno what happened but maybe it’s a one off and we’ll try it again.
Cafe Stella is one of my favorite haunts in silver lake. The restaurant makes you feel love you’ve truly been transported to another place. The staff is lovely, the food is great, and the ambience is always upbeat.
Romantic, hidden gem! The food was spectacular, as was the service. Ambience was beautiful, reminding me of a little french restaurant I used to visit when I lived in NYC. I plan to come back often, and would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys good food in a lovely atmosphere. Make reservations!
Great food as always.
And the waiter was great.
It's a little pricey, but well worth it for special nights
Always a winner, Cafe Stella is the perfect place for friends or a date. The quality of drinks and food is at the top and the servers make you feel valued. I am so happy that this restaurant continues to be a favorite and a Los Angeles stand-out.
Cafe Stella never fails to please. The food is reliably good, very satisfying every time. My teen kids love it and have developed a fine appreciation for perfectly prepared steak frites and chocolate soufflé. I like to go with family. I also like to go with friends for a cocktail. The service team is friendly and knowledgeable.
Love the patio, lighting is beautiful!!!!
Overpriced mediocre food. Service was very slow, maybe they want it to feel like the slow pace of France, but it wasn't working for us. The best part was the butter that came with the bread. Just ask for more bread and butter
Impeccable service and great food!! Love the homey feel of the restaurant and wait staff is second to none!!!
My favorite place for Escargots and cocktails. Great service and vibe.
Super expensive. Huge attitude from waiter. Spent 425.00 on dinner for 4 and the service was terribly off putting
