Bringing 1940s Paris to modern-day Edinburgh, Café St Honoré restaurant is a charming bistro serving up traditional French cuisine (with a few Scottish favourites thrown in) to a loyal clientele. Tucked away on a picturesque cobbled lane in the New Town, the cosy dining room at Café St Honore, with mirrored walls and black-and-white tiled floors, provides an atmospheric retreat. The team here are passionate about local, organic produce, so the menu changes daily. There are prix fixe menus on offer at lunch and dinner if you’re after a bargain, or just need an excuse to indulge in dessert. In the evening, a seasonal menu du jour is available alongside the full a la carte, which features dishes like roast pheasant with red cabbage and pancetta; Our warming Cafe St Honore Cassoulet; and vanilla crème brûlée. The wine list features some excellent French wines – a real treat for novices and connoisseurs alike.

Went with high expectations and was really disappointed. The lamb main was so dry it was inedible. I raised this information with the staff and nothing was offered or done. The table next to us had the same complaint. Was really high priced and for that you expect good quality cookery. Would not recommend and wouldn’t be back. One starter, two mains, one dessert and a bottle of wine was £187, not the price I expect for substandard food.

A lovely lunch made special by the excellent service, fine food and calm ambience. This was my second visit and I am certain there will be more.

Perfect Parisien cafe in the heart of Edinburgh! Although a more expensive option, you get what you pay for. Food was excellent and service attentive yet not overbearing, all of the team were lovely. Hope to return to Edinburgh soon and include a visit to Cafe St Honore too. Highly recommended.

Read about St Honore in the NYT 36 hr in Edinburgh. The place resembled the old fashioned places in Paris...two small rooms with 8-10 tables, delicious food and wine and great service....like traveling to France.

I am a visitor from the United States and this is my second dining experience at Café St Honore, my first time being in the summer of 2022. It is a lovely French café tucked away from the crowds on the Royal Mile and Princes Street. We received a warm welcome and were shown to a lovely table in a cozy room reminiscent of a French café. The gentleman who escorted us to our table, engaged in lovely conversation and seemed generally interested in us and my previous experience at the café and visit to Edinburgh. The food is absolutely exquisite. There are many offerings on the menu to suit everyone’s taste and they do their best to accommodate diet restrictions. Of course they ask about allergies and clearly inform if there’s any issue with cross contamination, etc. My husband is gluten intolerant and they were able to accommodate this diet restriction nicely. The wireless is extensive, but not overwhelming, and as I was unfamiliar with some of the French wines, they were able to recommend offering based on my preferences. Clearly, since I am a repeat visitor, I highly recommend this restaurant and highly recommend a reservation well in advance of your visit.

Hadn’t eaten here for many years but still one of Edinburgh’s institutions. Service, food and ambiance very good with, of course, a heavy French influence. But one downside for me was being charged £2 for an extra slice of bread (which was then halved to justify the £1 pp charge). Seemed very petty when we were paying £170 for a meal for two. Could understand if we’d gone for the £26 set dinner, drunk tap water and stuffed ourselves with bread, but surely some discretion should be applied.
