Bringing 1940s Paris to modern-day Edinburgh, Café St Honoré restaurant is a charming bistro serving up traditional French cuisine (with a few Scottish favourites thrown in) to a loyal clientele. Tucked away on a picturesque cobbled lane in the New Town, the cosy dining room at Café St Honore, with mirrored walls and black-and-white tiled floors, provides an atmospheric retreat. The team here are passionate about local, organic produce, so the menu changes daily. There are prix fixe menus on offer at lunch and dinner if you’re after a bargain, or just need an excuse to indulge in dessert. In the evening, a seasonal menu du jour is available alongside the full a la carte, which features dishes like roast pheasant with red cabbage and pancetta; Our warming Cafe St Honore Cassoulet; and vanilla crème brûlée. The wine list features some excellent French wines – a real treat for novices and connoisseurs alike.

We had a lovely dinner here to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The service was attentive and we all loved our food. It’s also refreshing to find a quiet spot away from the crowds and tourists.

The food was outstanding. Our only issue was that one of our party, who has a shellfish allergy, had an issue with cross contamination and became briefly ill.

My wife and I traveled to Edinburgh for the first time on vacation. We discovered this spot towards the end of our trip and wish we would’ve found it sooner. We arrived about 15 minutes early before our booking and the team got us right in with no issues at all. They were kind and made our visit feel more personal due to how they carried out a conversation with us. We weren’t talked to like customers but as friends which was an amazing change of pace compared to other restaurants we’d been to. Not to say the service in Edinburgh is bad because it isn’t at all. We now have many fond memories from our interactions with locals but this place is on another level. We both ordered one of the their specials for the day and were blown away. Arguably the best steak I’ve ever had. The food was so good that while we were sitting at dinner we canceled our dinner plans for the following evening and booked another dinner here. The cafe itself is private and hidden down a back road so you won’t have to worry about swarms of crowds which makes it feel all the more intimate. Definitely our favorite spot in Edinburgh. We were sad to leave Scotland but even sadder to leave Café St Honoré. Couldn’t recommend it enough!

I had great expectations for the spot, but was extremely disappointed. The food is very overpriced and just not very well executed. I ordered the special of the evening, which was their take on steak and fries. The steak had several chunks of just unchewable fat. The salad greens were wilted. The fries were OK. Ordered the parfait for dessert on the waiter’s recommendation and it was inedible- tasted bitter and reminded me of soap. Service was also bad and inattentive. Very let down by a spot with reservations that were not easy to get.

We messed up the time of our booking, but these guys found room for us in an extremely busy evening., the whole experience was sensational. A must do restauraTt!

Attractive bistro-style ambiance, perhaps a little cramped and noisy. Very attentive service. Good cooking with local produce. Lamb was cooked perfectly. Good value, but not a cheap meal.

The restaurant is everything it intends to be The meal starts with a bread that is unusual and to die for. Both of us ordered the lamb dish, which was excellent. The wine list offered a number of reasonably priced options. We would return when we return to Edinburgh.

This is the second time we've gone for the Sunday Roast dinner at the Cafe. As always, the food is top quality, Cafe St Honore is one of our favourite places.
